Huancayo Tourist Information - Junin Peru
Huancayo is the largest city in the central region of Peru.
Half a million people cram into the capital of Junin province.
It can be breathtaking for a visitor fresh from the coast, not only because the surrounding mountains.
At over 3,200 meters above sea level or 10,500 feet altitude sickness can be problem.
But theres plenty to do while you get acclimatized.
Even though Huancayo has a business-like appearance, its also called the party capital of Peru. Lessons in traditional dance,
Andean musical instruments and a bit of Spanish are easy to organize in the bustling center of town.
While the city is home to a wide range of agricultural industries, from milk factories, to trout farms, liquor distilleries to craft studios,
its most famous as the end point of one of the great train journeys of South America.
The rail line from Lima was started by an American railway engineer Henry Meiggs in the 1870s, and finished Ernest Malinowski, a Pole who said he could build a railway anywhere a llama could climb.
It passes through 69 tunnels, 59 bridges and 22 zigzags and 6 switch-backs to reach a pass at almost 4,758 meters (15,500 feet) above sea level.
Carving through rock and up steep mountainsides, the track took 28 years to build.
It started occasionally running the route again in 2002 for special occasions and festivals held throughout the year.
Outside the city a string of mountains, lakes, small towns and campsites dot the Mantaro Valley, home to the Huanca people.
Archaeological sites describe the history of the war-like Huanca who fought bitter battles with the Inca for control of the valley.
But the region is now a haven for visitors fleeing the crowded city of Lima, for a break in the mountains.

A solo siete horas de Lima (por carretera), hay un lugar que tiene mucho por ofrecer a sus visitantes, este es Huancayo. La también llamada “ciudad incontrastable” posee diferentes puntos turísticos históricos, así como impresionantes atractivos naturales como son sus paisajes, nevados y exuberante vegetación.
A continuación lugares turísticos imperdibles de la ciudad más importante de la sierra central del país:
* Plaza de la Constitución
Ubicada en el centro de Huancayo, es la plaza más importante de la ciudad. Se le dio este nombre en honor a la Proclamación de la Constitución Liberal de Cádiz en 1812. En la Plaza Constitución se encuentra la Catedral y la Casa del Artesano, lugar de venta de artesanías típicas.
* Plaza de la Identidad Huanca
Se encuentra en el barrio de San Antonio. Sus construcciones están hechas con piedras y pirca, algo típico de la región Junín. En Plaza de la Identidad Huanca se pueden apreciar esculturas que representan el folklore de Huancayo como los danzantes de Huaylarsh, cantantes de música local y el mate burilado (arte ancestral peruano hecho en base a frutos de calabaza).
Otros lugares por conocer :
* Torre Torre
Ubicado a tan solo un kilómetro de Huancayo. Su nombre se debe a que son gigantescas torres geológicas formadas por factores naturales como el viento y las lluvias que la han erosionado. Los visitantes pueden llegar a pie y caminar entre las torres de arcilla y piedra que llegan a alcanzar hasta los 30 metros de altura. Es uno de los mejores puntos para apreciar el Valle del Mantaro.
* Nevado Huaytapallana
El “Huaytapallana” está a una altura de 5,200 m.s.n.m. y su nombre significa “lugar donde se recogen flores”. Se ubica a dos horas de la ciudad de Huancayo y tiene entre sus atractivos más importantes las numerosas lagunas ubicadas a su alrededor, las cuales dan origen a algunos ríos de la zona. Además, está acompañado de los nevados Lasuntay Grande y Lasuntay norte. Los turistas pueden realizar caminatas, observando el cambio del paisaje de urbano a rural, siendo ideal para la práctica del trekking.
* Pueblo de Jauja
Ubicado en el Valle del Mantaro, a unos 45 minutos de Huancayo. Este pueblo fue uno de los primeros fundados por el conquistador español Francisco Pizarro. Sus calles angostas siguen albergando casonas de la época colonial e iglesias como la Parroquia Santa Fe de Jauja. Uno de sus principales puntos turísticos es la Laguna de Paca, cuya principal atracción son sus islas flotantes.
* Wari Willka
A seis kilómetros de Huancayo, en el anexo de Wari, se encuentra este antiguo santuario que fue construido entre los años 800 y 1200 d.C. cuando la Cultura Wari ocupaba la zona. Fue la capital económica y administrativa del Reino Huanca y su principal centro religioso. Wari Willka cuenta con un museo de sitio para el turismo nacional e internacional.

It seems not many foreign visitors are drawn to the sights and attractions in Huancayo, Peru. Many visitors likely know about Pisco Sours, however those not traveling off the beaten path in Peru don't know about Huancayo's steamy, curious cocktail known simply as the Calientito.
Visitors here will find a lovely Gaudí-esque attraction in Huancyo: Parque de la Indentidad Huanca. Active travelers should head for Huancayo's Torre Torre which offers hikes through stunning scenery.

Huancayo es la capital de la región de Junín, en el centro de Perú.Los mates burilados son frutos de mate o calabaza ornamentados de forma artesanal con una técnica llamada burilado, que se elaboran en Perú, por ejemplo en el Valle del Mantaro, en Lambayeque y en la Provincia de Huanta.
