Dusseldorf, city, capital of North Rhine–Westphalia Land, western Germany. It lies mainly on the right bank of the Rhine River, 21 miles northwest of Cologne. It is the administrative and cultural centre of the industrial Rhine-Ruhr area.
First mentioned in 1159, Düsseldorf was chartered in 1288 by the count of Berg and was the capital of the duchies of Berg and Jülich from 1511 until it passed to the Palatinate-Neuberg line in 1609. Although the town suffered considerably in the Thirty Years' War and the War of the Spanish Succession, it revived under the elector palatine Johann Wilhelm II. After being the capital of the short-lived Napoleonic grand duchy of Berg, the town passed to Prussia in 1815. Rapid commercial and economic growth followed the establishment of iron and steel industries in the 1870s. After the widespread devastation suffered during World War II, many of the city's old buildings were repaired and many new buildings erected.
Dusseldorf has three harbours on the Rhine and one of Germany's busiest civil airfields at Lohausen. The city is a banking and wholesale centre and is the administrative seat of many of the Ruhr's businesses. Its industries include iron, steel, chemicals, glass, and textiles.

THE BEST DAY TRIPS FROM DUSSELDORF, GERMANY
I’ve just come back from travelling around Germany for 10 days and one of my favourite spots was Dusseldorf.
I have to admit I’m not the best at geography sometimes, but when I arrived in the city I quickly discovered there were some great day trips from Dusseldorf, all just a short train ride away.
I’d heard of Cologne, Dortmund and Essen but I never realised they were so close together. That meant as soon as I arrived in Düsseldorf I wanted to explore all North Rhine-Westphalia had to offer. (That’s the name of the region where you’ll find all of these places by the way!)
Throw in some crazy industrial landscapes like Zeche Zollverein and Duisburg Landschaftspark (just wait until you see the photos) and you’ve got the making of a fantastic few days in and around Dusseldorf.

We arrived in Düsseldorf not really knowing what to expect, but over the course of 72 hours, we discovered this is a vibrant city with beautiful green spaces, a thriving art scene, architecture that’ll make your eyes pop, traditions worth exploring, and more restaurants than we had time for! This video tour in Hilden City Germany offers a great way to enjoy a walk and Hilden city's beautiful industrial town ambience on a cloudy summer day in July 2020. Hilden is located 10 km (6.21 mi) west of Solingen and 15 km (9.32 mi) east of Düsseldorf on the right side of the Rhine.

Hilden was named in written sources already in the 11th century. In the 13th century in the centre of the early settlement a Romanesque church was erected, which during the Reformation became Protestant. Later a second church for Catholics had been built. In the time of industrialization many factories especially in textiles, engineering and painting had been founded. In both World Wars the people of Hilden had many losses, a list of the soldiers' names is written on a memorial. Since the 1960s thousands of foreign migrant workers were employed in various industrial sections. An economical boom in the following decades contributed to further expansion of the town.
I am starting this walk at Mittelstraße then taking a quick stroll through city center closeby. Right afterwards I am walking along the evangelic church and head to the Bismarckpassage mall before I return again to the city center. I hope you can relax and enjoy this beautiful walking tour.
