Saarbrücken is the capital and largest city of the state of Saarland, Germany. Saarbrücken is Saarland's administrative, commercial and cultural centre. he city is situated next to the French border at the heart of the metropolitan area of Saarland. Saarbrücken was created in 1909 by the merger of three towns, Saarbrücken, St. Johann, and Malstatt-Burbach. It used to be the industrial and transport centre of the Saar coal basin. Products included iron and steel, sugar, beer, pottery, optical instruments, machinery, and construction materials.
Historic landmarks in the city include the stone bridge across the Saar (1546), the Gothic church of St. Arnual, the 18th-century Saarbrücken Castle, and the old part of the town, the Sankt Johanner Markt (Market of St. Johann). Twice in the 20th century Saarbrücken was separated from Germany: in 1920–35 as capital of the Territory of the Saar Basin and in 1947–56 as capital of the Saar Protectorate.
Some of the closest cities are Trier, Luxembourg, Nancy, Metz, Kaiserslautern, Karlsruhe and Mannheim. Saarbrücken is connected by the city's public transport network to the town of Sarreguemines in France, and to the neighboring town of Völklingen, where the old steel works were the first industrial monument to be declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1994 — the Völklinger Hütte. The city is served by Saarbrücken Airport (SCN), and since June 2007 ICE high speed train services along the LGV Est line provide high speed connections to Paris from Saarbrücken Hauptbahnhof. Saarbrücken's Saarbahn (modelled on the Karlsruhe model light rail) crosses the French–German border, connecting to the French city of Sarreguemines.

Saarbrücken (or Saarbrucken 2023) îs the capital of the state Saarland in Germany. Saarbrucken means the bridge over the river Saar in German. The city is located next to the French border. The current city was formed in 1909 with the merger of St. Johann, Saarbrucken and Malstatt-Burbach. Highlights of the city include the old center, the Stonebridge across the river Saar, the Castle, the St. Annual Church and the Sankt Johanner Markt. Saarbrucken has a population of 330,000 and in its metropolitan area live 700,000 citizens.

Welche Vorurteile kennst du zu Saarbrücken? Die Stadt soll düster, traurig und eher nicht so spannend sein? ✔ Über die Hauptstadt des Saarlandes gibt es viele Vorurteile. Ich habe auch welche. Um herauszufinden, was richtig und was falsch ist, schaue ich mir selbst einige Saarbrücker Sehenswürdigkeiten an. Meine ersten Impressionen von der saarländischen Landeshauptstadt? ✔ Ich finde, Saarbrücken hat viel weniger touristische Power als Hochburgen wie Berlin, München oder Heidelberg. Logisch ist auch, dass die „Saarstadt“ mit weniger als 200.000 Einwohnern nicht mit der einen oder anderen deutschen Metropole „mithalten“ kann. Trotzdem kann ich in Saarbrücken genug Sehenswürdigkeiten finden, um einen Wochenend-Städtetrip zu füllen. ✔ Um an dieser Stelle ein paar wenige zu nennen: eine Führung durch den Saarbrücker Rathausturm, das Saarbrücker Schloss und die unterirdischen „Höhlengänge“. Wir beginnen unseren Besuch in St. Ingbert (rund 36.000 Einwohner - Saarland) in der Kaiserstrasse. Dort schauen wir uns u.a. die katholische St. Engelbert Kirche und den Bierbrunnen an. Später steht die neogotische Kirche St. Josef und die Alte Brauerei von 1810 auf unserem Programm.

Ökosee Dillingen Saar | toller Rundwanderweg | Saarland
Der Dillinger See (auch Ökosee Dillingen) ist ein See in Dillingen/Saar im Landkreis Saarlouis. Der 23 ha große See liegt im ca. 80 ha großen Vogelschutzgebiet, am Westrand der Stadt zwischen dem Stadtteil Pachten und der Saar in einer ehemaligen Auenlandschaft. Der See verläuft von Süden nach Norden entlang der Saar. Im Norden des Sees befindet sich eine etwa 2 ha große Insel. Im Süden begrenzt die L355 den See. Der See ist dicht von Bäumen und Büschen umwachsen und hat ausgeprägte Schilfzonen.
Der See dient vielen Vögeln als Lebensraum. Neben Höckerschwänen, Enten- und Gänsearten kommen auch Kormorane und diverse Reiher, Störche, Greifvögel, Dommeln, Rallen und Möwen sowie zahlreiche Singvogelarten vor. Auch zahlreiche Insekten- und Fledermausarten sowie Amphibien und Reptilien nutzen den See als Lebensraum. Zu den seltenen Arten der Pflanzenwelt zählen der Rions Wasserhahnenfuß und die Zerbrechliche Armleuchteralge.
