Gießen is a university in the Landkreis Giessen in Mittelhessen and with 90,131 inhabitants (31 December 2020) the largest city of Hesse and one of the State Statistics Offices of the Landes. As the seat of the Gießen district and the regional district, it is the Mittelhessens administrative center, a local traffic police station and a regional center.
Within a kilometer west of Wetzlar in the Lahn-Dill district, the city has an agglomeration room with about 200,000 inhabitants, in the vicinity of the region comes to approx. 275,000 entrants. In other directions, the city of Marburg (Landkreis Marburg-Biedenkopf) is located, Fulda (Landkreis Fulda) is located in the Vogelsbergs, Siegen (Kreis Siegen-Wittgenstein) in Southwestfalen, Friedberg (Hessen) and Bad Nauheim in Bad Limburg. Limburg-Weilburg) am Rande des Westerwalds.

I was on a recent trip to magnificent Germany a few weeks ago and I had an opportunity to stop by Giessen, Germany where I had lived for four years as a kid.
My time in Giessen on this trip was very short but I am very grateful for my time spent in the early evening and early morning in Giessen.

A Quick Trip to Friedberg, Germany
In this video I share some of the highlights of my quick trip to Friedberg, Germany.
Friedberg is a small town in Germany 25-kilometers away from Frankfurt am Main.
I visited Friedberg during the middle of August and it was surprisingly quiet. There were hardly any tourists around and my girlfriend that I had the town to ourselves to explore.
After an hour there wasn't much else to do in Friedberg so we continued on with the rest of our Central European and German road trip.

GERMANY historic center of Herborn (Hessen)
Herborn is situated north of Frankfurt. There are beautiful half-timbered houses in the old center of the town. We stayed in Herborn for a couple of days and visited from there several towns in the neighbourhood. (Original sound, no added music).

I had a quiet wander around this historic medieval town. This town in Hessen is called Friedberg. And everything you will see today is because of the humanity of the people who negotiated and saved it on the 29th of March 1945. This town has the most incredible sights to see. It´s a treasure trove for people who are interested in German history and culture.
My meditative videos show a calming and artistic view of the places I visit and the quiet, peaceful wanders I take through them. Medieval villages, picturesque cottages, beautiful cities. Wetzlar, GERMANY ???????? 2021 | Walking tour | 4K/60fps
Wetzlar is a city in the state of Hesse, Germany. A former free imperial city, it gained much of its fame as the seat of the Imperial Supreme Court (Reichskammergericht) of the Holy Roman Empire. Located 51 kilometers north of Frankfurt, Wetzlar straddles the river Lahn and is on the German Timber-Frame Road, which passes mile upon mile of half-timbered houses. Historically, the city has acted as the hub of the Lahn-Dill-Kreis on the north edge of the Taunus. Tourists know the city for its ancient town and its medieval Catholic/Protestant shared cathedral of St. Mary.
Notable architectural features include the Eisenmarkt and the steep gradients and tightly-packed street layout of a medieval town. The building of the sandstone cathedral commenced in the 12th century in Romanesque style. In the later Middle Ages the construction continued under a master plan in Gothic style. The church was never finished—one steeple still remains uncompleted. The cathedral suffered heavy damage in the Second World War from aerial bombing, but restoration took place in the 1950s. On the outskirts of town along the river stand the ruins of several stone towers.

Schrödinger's viaduct: the 24 Halls of Friedberg
It's a railway viaduct, built in 1850 against the better judgement of the railway company, at the insistence of a local aristocrat. The 24 Halls of Friedberg still stand to this day, and nobody knows what to do with them. It probably doesn't help that some bureaucratic red tape means that it's legally supposed to be demolished... but can't legally be demolished.

hr-fernsehen geht auf Tour mit Tobias Kämmerer
Der legendäre Gießener Wal, eine revolutionäre Geschäftsidee und ein Rennen gegen die Drachen aus Marburg – das sind nur drei Dinge, die Tobi Kämmerer gemeinsam mit den Zuschauern in „Tobis Städtetrip: Gießen hautnah!“ entdeckt. Das hr-fernsehen zeigt die 45-minütige Sendung am Dienstag, 13. August, um 20.15 Uhr.
So findet der hr3-Morningshowmoderator im Hörsaal der Justus-Liebig-Universität den einzigen echten Pottwal Hessens. Das 15 Meter lange Skelett wurde vom Team rund um Prof. Dr. Volker Wissemann nach Gießen geholt und präpariert. Als der Professor Tobi die abenteuerliche Geschichte erzählt, kommt der aus dem Staunen nicht mehr raus
Eine weitere Station zum Beispiel ist der Laden „Unverpacktes Gießen“ von dem jungen Pärchen Louisa Willner und Jonas Hey. Sie zeigen dem Moderatorr, wie man ohne Verpackungen einkauft und damit die Umwelt nachhaltig schützen kann.
Richtig spannend wird es, als Tobi in das Drachenboot vom WSV Hellas steigt, um ein Rennen gegen die Marburger Lahndrachen zu fahren. Ein Sport den hier auf der Lahn jeder ausprobieren kann, der aber auch, wie Tobi es am eigenen Körper erfährt, extremst anstrengend ist.
Die Ideen, welche Orte Tobi Kämmerer bei seinem Städtetrip unbedingt besuchen soll, kamen von den Einwohnern und Gießen-Fans selbst. Sie haben dem Moderator bei Facebook vor dem Dreh ihre Tipps gegeben. Gefilmt wurde mit einer besonders kompakten Kameratechnik, das Gerät ist kaum größer als ein Handy.
Dadurch können Szenen gedreht werden, die mit größeren Kameras so nicht möglich sind, und Tobis Interviewgäste vergessen schnell, dass sie im Fernsehen sind. Entstanden ist eine 45-minütige, besondere Entdeckungsreise. Tobis Fazit: Gießen an der Lahn ist eine echte Perle im Herzen von Hessen, mit extrem netten Menschen und definitiv einen Städtetrip wert!
