The small town of Herrenberg lies just south of Stuttgart, and boasts a well-preserved historic centre, a chance to see the church bells close up, and pleasant walks in the country. It's just a bit inconvenient that parts of it are built on a hill that moves.

Der #Schönbuchturm in Herrenberg
Er ist ein echter Hingucker und bietet einen tollen 360°-Panoramablick – der neue Aussichtsturm im Naturpark Schönbuch.
Im Juni 2018 wurde der Schönbuchturm eröffnet und verspricht, ein neuer freizeittouristischer Anziehungspunkt in der Metropolregion rund um Stuttgart zu werden. Er befindet sich am höchsten Punkt des #Naturparks Schönbuch, auf dem Stellberg bei Herrenberg, und liegt in unmittelbarer Nähe zu anderen attraktiven Zielen.
Der Schönbuchturm ist eine leichte Konstruktion aus heimischen Lärchenkernholz und Stahl. Er ist 35 Meter hoch, die Besucherplattformen befinden sich auf 10, 20 und 30 Meter Höhe. Rund 170 Stufen führen hinauf – und über eine gegenläufige Treppe natürlich auch wieder hinunter. Mit dem Kauf einer Stufe kann sich jeder auf diesem bemerkenswerten Bauwerk verewigen.

Climbing the 35 meter high Schönbuchturm with great view of nature park | Herrenberg, Germany 2023
The Schönbuchturm is a 35-meter-high observation tower on Stellberg Mountain, located in western Schönbuch forest, northeast of Herrenberg in the Böblingen district of Baden-Württemberg in Germany. The tower is supported by eight masts made of glued, native larch wood, which splay out in a chalice-like manner and are interrupted by three viewing platforms at heights of 10, 20 and 30 meters. The masts are braced to the foundation by a steel cable net. The platforms are accessed by two spiral steel staircases.
The view includes the plains of Heckengäu and Korngäu, large parts of Schönbuch, the Swabian Alb and the Black Forest. It is a tourist attraction of the district. The number of visitors in the first year since its opening in June 2018 is estimated at 300,000.

The Schönbuch is an almost completely forested area southwest of Stuttgart, Germany. In 1972, its core area was declared the first nature park in Baden-Württemberg. The Schönbuch is 156 km² in size , its highest point is on the 583 m above sea level Bromberg. The largest valleys of the Schönbuch are the Goldersbachtal in the west and the Schaichtal in the east.
Today, the Schönbuch Nature Park is an important recreational area for the Stuttgart region. It is accessed by relatively few roads that can be used by the public. Many plants and animals that have become rare elsewhere in this region live here. In 2014, the Association of German Foresters therefore awarded Schönbuch the title of Forest Area of the Year.

Llega el momento de abandonar la Selva negra y virar rumbo al Sur, pero para no volver sobre nuestros pasos utilizaremos parte de la famosa Ruta Romántica. El circulo en el mapa nos señalaba Tübingen como destino del dia, pero como sabeis que a los que viajamos con la casa a cuestas nos gusta eso de abandonar de vez en cuando la linea planificada hicimos una paradita en la localidad de Herrenberg.
