Taiwan is an island nation deeply rooted with Chinese culture and heritage. In present day, it is in a geopolitical struggle to maintain its democracy from being part of China. Despite its small size, Taiwan has a dynamic and resilient society, with a thriving democracy and a strong commitment to environmental sustainability. The island's political status is a subject of ongoing debate, with China claiming Taiwan as part of its territory, while Taiwan operates as a separate, self-governing entity.
It was a country I never really intended to visit but have since fallen in love with the people, the landscape, the food, and the customs.

Taiwan's Top 10 Tourist Attractions
The island nation of Taiwan, located southeast of China, is one of the world's most densely inhabited countries, with bustling and dynamic cities full of gorgeous old temples, excellent museums, and active night markets offering a stunning assortment of delectable cuisines. Many people like discovering Taiwan's wonderful wildlife, such as the gorgeous Sun Moon Lake and stunning Kinmen Island, away from its crowded cities.
Taiwan has long been at odds with China, which still claims the island, and the Taiwanese are a friendly and welcoming people who fervently preserve their independence.
#1. Kaohsiung,
Kaohsiung is a bustling city full of life and energy that offers something for everyone, making it a popular tourist destination for both foreigners and locals. As the country's marine and industrial hub, it is the country's third most populous city, and commerce and trade have ensured a diverse mix of peoples, cultures, and communities, which is reflected in the delectable cuisine on offer.
#2. Wulai,
Wulai, located south of New Taipei City, is home to the Atayal people and is known for its hot springs throughout Taiwan. As a result, it has become a tourist destination, with many visitors flocking here to swim in the warm waters, learn more about the rich indigenous culture, and explore the natural surroundings.
#3.Kinmen Islands,
This series of islands lies between Taiwan and China and is notable for being the location of a 1949 fight between Nationalists and Communists, however it is now better known as a popular tourist attraction.
#4. Kenting National Park,
Kenting is a renowned tourist site in the south of Taiwan, on the Hengchun Peninsula, and is often regarded as the country's oldest national park. Visitors usually come to enjoy the great beaches and the tropical environment that makes it so enticing, despite the abundance of lovely landscapes on offer.
#5.Alishan National Scenic Area,
The Alishan National Scenic Area is a wild and fascinating location that is exceedingly mountainous, with twenty-five mountains rising to a height of two thousand meters or more. Exploring the hills, valleys, waterfalls, and forests is a magical experience, with breathtaking views.
#6. Lukang,
The island's second oldest town is a fascinating destination to explore, particularly for its delectable local cuisine and gorgeous architecture.
#7. Tainan,
This old city, which was once the imperial capital of Taiwan, is definitely worth a visit, with many intriguing sights and cultural icons to see. The Anping District, which is Tainan's historic core, is one of the city's most popular tourist destinations.
#8. Taroko National Park,
This national park, which derives its name from the magnificent canyon that runs through it and is full of gorgeous nature and incredible scenery, is well worth visiting while in Taiwan. Taroko Gorge, along with the steep valleys, mountains, and other features throughout the park, is the indisputable showpiece of the area, carved out over ages and millennia by the winding Liwu River.
#9. Sun Moon Lake,
The charmingly called Sun Moon Lake is the country's largest body of water and a popular tourism site for both locals and visitors. As a result, there are numerous hotels and resorts along the lake's banks, as well as numerous restaurants, stores, and pubs to meet the needs of visitors.
#10. Taipei,
The capital of Taiwan is a fantastic destination to visit, with enough to see and do for visitors. It is not just the island's political and economic center, but also its cultural one, with a thriving arts and culture scene.

Kenting Beach is one of the best beaches I have ever been to! We visited this place with friends and we went there from the Alishan mountains where we had 5 degrees of cold, but upon arrival in Kenting we felt 27 degrees of perfect weather. This is one of the amazing things in Taiwan. We liked our trip a lot and I hope you will enjoy watching this vlog!

HengChun: The windiest place in southern Taiwan! (2020)
In this video, we go on a 3 day 2 night visit to HengChun. HengChun is at the southern most part of Taiwan.
HengChun still has many parts of the city walls. We start the visit at night going to the south gate and then visiting the old street.
The next day we go to GangKou on the east side. Here we cross a suspension bridge and go to the beach and get blown away.
We then go to the west side of Taiwan to visit the National Museum of Marine Biology & Aquarium which is an amazing gem on the south coast of Taiwan.
Finally, we end the video at the East Gate of HengChun.

At the very southern tip of Taiwan is Kenting.It is without a doubt one of the finest spots to visit in all of Taiwan, with lovely white sand beaches, beautiful forested regions, scenic mountains, and a delightfully tropical atmosphere.
The park is located on the Hengchun Peninsula in Pingtung county, a world away from the hustle and bustle of Taipei and even the nearest big city Kaohsiung. Its combination of sunshine, incredible natural scenery, and chill vibes has made it one of the island's most popular tourist destinations, attracting millions of visitors each year. Kenting is the ideal seaside getaway for sun, sand, and sea enthusiasts.The Pacific Ocean, the Taiwan Straight, and the Luzon Straight surround the park's beaches and bays, making it a fantastic area for watersports, boat trips, and diving.

Houwan or Back Bay 後灣 — and getting there by bicycle from Kaohsiang.

Back Bay, or Houwan, Taiwan is located in southern Taiwan, in the Pingtung County, and the township of Checheng. There are 11 villages in the county, including Houwan, which means Back Bay in English.
Pingtung was once known as the Kingdom of Tungning, and called Firewood City
Back Bay 後灣 is a fisherman village that has escaped development, but not for much longer. There are a number of new hotels under construction, which means some of the old buildings are slowly being replaced with new buildings.
This video also features the city of Hengchun, which is the entryway to Kenting National Park.
The city itself was once completely surrounded by a city wall; now about half of the wall remains intact, as well as the four city gates.

Hengchun Night Market is a lively and vibrant night market located in the small town of Hengchun, just a short drive away from Kenting. Unlike many other night markets in Taiwan, Hengchun Night Market is only open on Sundays, making it a popular destination for both locals and tourists alike.
Upon entering the night market, you'll be immediately struck by the colorful array of stalls and vendors selling everything from traditional Taiwanese snacks to trendy clothing and accessories. The aroma of grilled meats, fried snacks, and sweet desserts fills the air, tempting you to sample as many different foods as possible.
Some must-try dishes at Hengchun Night Market include the grilled squid, fried chicken, oyster omelet, and shaved ice dessert. You'll also find vendors selling unique and quirky snacks like tornado potatoes, mochi ice cream, and bubble tea in lightbulb-shaped cups.
In addition to the food, there are also plenty of games and activities to enjoy at Hengchun Night Market. You can test your skills at ring-toss or shooting games, or try your luck at winning a prize by throwing darts or shooting hoops. If you're a fan of Japanese anime, you might even be able to win a Pikachu plush toy or other cute character merchandise.
One of the best things about Hengchun Night Market is simply strolling around and soaking up the festive atmosphere. The night market is filled with bright lights, music, and people of all ages enjoying themselves. Hengchun Old Town (Near Kenting National Park, Taiwan)
Hengchun / 恆春 is located within Kenting National Park and is the gateway to the tropical beach resorts and night markets of Kenting, therefore it is one of the most well known tourist towns in Taiwan. The city itself was once completely surrounded by a city wall; now about half of the wall remains intact, as well as the four city gates. On weekends, the streets of nearby Kenting are filled with cars and tour buses.
The Hengchun Old Town / 恆春古城 is one of the best-preserved historical towns in Taiwan with four gates intact and about half of the walls remaining. It was built during the Qing Dynasty in the 1st year of the Guangxu Era (1875) and completed in 1879. It has a north, east, south, and west gate and the outer circumference of the moat measures 880 zhang (about 2,700 m or 8,800 ft). In 1988, an actual measurement of the length was conducted, showing that the length in total amount to 2,550 meters (8,370 ft).
The peak season of tourism in Hengchun usually lasts from April to late October when daytime temperatures are usually hot, while the off season lasts from November to March of the following year, with the exception of the week of the Chinese New Year holiday which usually takes place during late January or February, when large amount of tourist from around the whole country, mostly from Northern Taiwan travels to Hengchun and Kenting for the peninsula's warm weather.
The township was served by Hengchun Airport, with domestic flights from Taipei Songshan Airport in Taipei. Scheduled flights ceased in 2014.
On December 26, 2006, a 7.0–7.2 magnitude earthquake with an epicenter off the southwest coast of Taiwan occurred (approximately 22.8 km southwest of Hengchun). It caused damage to many houses in Hengchun, including fifteen historical buildings in the historic center of the township.

East Coast and Eluanbi Peninsula
Like its Maobitou sibling across the way, the Eluanbi peninsula juts from its Hengchun Peninsula anchor pointing south. Its southernmost point is also the Southernmost Point of Taiwan, reached on foot in about 15 minutes from the Highway 26-side parking lot (paid parking), the last 500m along a wide, pleasant path shaded by thick tropical growth, notably various cacti species. You emerge, quite suddenly, right on the jagged, wave-pounded rocky shore, at a lookout deck with an artistic geo-point marker. Neighboring-area sightseeing spots are the historic Eluanbi Lighthouse and pristine Longkeng Ecological Protection Area.
Spread out alongside Highway 26, Longpan Park is not much more than a selfie-stop for most – move beyond the roadside parking lots to the most popular lookout points, however, and you’ll be rewarded with what to your writer are Kenting’s most magnificent visuals, save perhaps for the color-circus of its snorkeling/diving excursions. The eagle-vantage views from the coastal clifftops, with their disintegrating cliff sections (off-limits), wave-pounded reefs below, river-mouth Chashan village to the north beyond, mountain after mountain falling into the sea beyond that, are stunning. Watch for water buffalo and sika deer having a grassy meal on the cliff-base close-cropped grassy areas.
Note: Beyond selfies, this is by far the national park’s most in-demand location for wedding-photo shoots, TV-commercial shoots, etc.
North of Longpan, Highway 26 ends at a T-intersection. Turn right for almost immediate entry into Jialeshui (entry fee). This isolated, cliff-backed 2.5km stretch of coastline is one of Taiwan’s premier geological classrooms. Tours are given on open-sided golf-cart-style buses, drivers explaining (in Chinese) the three different geological layers clearly discerned, most notably pointing out the nature-carved outcroppings of the sandstone stratum, once on the sea bottom, resembling such familiar figures as the hare, frog, and seahorse.
Back at the T-intersection, inexpensive eateries line the periphery of a large parking lot. Beside this lot is a ticket booth, at the head of a picture-perfect pedestrian bridge that shoots across the river mouth here. Purchase a ticket to access the eco-park across. Better yet, call the Gangkou Community Development Association (09-6352-2868) three days in advance for a guided tour of the park (fee), learning among other precious things where/how/why the many local crab species dig “secret” homes, and also visiting the restricted White Banyan Tree Park. The magnificent old Japanese-planted banyans here are featured in Life of Pi, with special-effects help, when Pi comes across a magical floating “island,” exposed roots everywhere.
