Friesland – Urlaub im Norden der Niederlande | ARD Reisen
Daniel Aßmann erkundet die Region Friesland, die als die schönste und eigenwilligste der zwölf niederländischen Provinzen gilt. Bei einem Urlaub im Norden von Holland gibt es viel zu entdecken, denn die stolzen Friesen haben eine eigene Sprache, eigene Brauchtümer und Traditionen. Berühmt ist die älteste Pferderasse Europas, eher unbekannt das Pulsstockspringen, und bei Touristen beliebt sind handgefertigte Klompen oder Keramiken. Mit einer Solex, einem in Friesland beliebten Moped, erkundet Daniel Aßmann die Region.
Friesisch gilt hier als Amtssprache, die neben Niederländisch gesprochen wird. Die Geschichte der Provinz (Hauptstadt Leeuwarden) lässt sich bis in die Jahre zwischen 400 und 200 vor Christus zurückverfolgen. Im 15. Jahrhundert war die Provinz für kurze Zeit sogar unabhängig.
Weil Friesland mit Ijsselmeer, unzähligen Wasserstraßen und vielen kleineren Seen ein einziges Wassersportparadies ist, steigt Daniel Aßmann im Nationalpark de Alde Feanen in ein Skûtsje, ein friesisches Plattbodenschiff. In Leeuwarden besucht er ein ehemaliges Gefängnis, das heute Kultur- und Begegnungszentrum ist. Im Dark Sky Park Lauwersmeer wird er zum Sternegucker.

Wij zijn Pieter en Marieke en sinds 2015 varen we met onze motorboot de Canicula door Nederland. Tijdens onze eerste vaartocht door Overijssel vallen we van de ene verbazing in de andere. Over de imposante bebouwing van Vollenhove, de massieve zeesluis van Blokzijl, het dijkdorp Kuinre. Geweldig! Inmiddels zijn we bijna heel Nederland door gevaren. Om iedereen te laten zien hoe mooi Nederland is vanaf het water, maken we video's van onze vaartochten en schrijven we artikelen over wat we allemaal tegenkomen onderweg. De Canicula is een St. Tropez cabincruiser van negen meter lang, tachtig centimeter diep en ruim twee meter hoog.

Welcome back to the Dutch Autosnelweg. In this video you can drive along on the A7 E22 from Heerenveen (Friesland) to the exit of Den Oever (Noord-Holland). Personally I find that on stretches of Dutch motorway like these the effects of the lowered speed limit become painfully clear.
There is quite a bit of construction work going at the Afsluitdijk, the famous dike or dam that was built between 1927 and 1932. The A7 runs over the Afsluitdijk, which connects the Friesland and Noord-Holland provinces. It also separates the IJsselmeer lake and North sea.
Works started in 2019, which include strengthening and reinforcing the dike, road resurfacing, a new and expanded cycling highway, new walking paths and a Wadden Sea UNESCO experience center. Bridges and storm surge barriers will be replaced or modernized and several clean energy projects will be realized as well. The latter includes a solar panel installation and a large offshore windpark. Upon entry of the Afsluitdijk you can see the Frisian windpark on the left in the lake.
At around 20:48 you see a structure above the road. This is quite interesting, as Dutch dredging companies dig out sand on the left shore and transport it via this conveyor belt above the road. On the right side trucks transport that sand down the dike where it will be used to reinforce it.

Driving in the Netherlands: A32 and A28 From Heerenveen to Zwolle in Heavy Rain

In this video you can drive along on the Dutch highways A32 and A28 from Heerenveen to Zwolle. We cover a distance of about 65 kilometers with a 100 km/h speed limit so I increased the playback speed by quite a bit. It's especially unfortunate on stretches of highway like these that there is a 100 km/h speed limit in place during the day, since as you can see it's perfectly designed to handle 130 km/h. Those 30 km/h can make quite a difference on such distances when traffic is low.
Heerenveen is a city in the heart of the Friesland province with about 40.000 inhabitants. It's well-known for its speed-skating temple 'Thialf' and of course the football club SC Heerenveen. You can see the Abe Lenstra Stadium on the right at the beginning of the video. It has a capacity of 26.000, which is quite large for a city of this size.
Zwolle is a significantly larger city in the East of the Netherlands. It has over 120.000 inhabitants and has a rich history being part of the Hanseatic trade route in the North of Europe.
