Halden, Norway - City Tour & Drone, 4k
The city of Halden is nestled among the hills on the banks of the fjord. In the past, Halden had an important defensive function. The old fortress Fredriksten (Fredriksten festning) rises above the city.
The city is very popular with tourists. Especially in the summer, when there are various festivals and concerts. And we walked around Halden in October and it seems to us that at this time of the year, all the cities are especially expressive and bright thanks to the autumn foliage!
We started the walk from the Rødsberget hill, a total climb of about 34 meters along comfortable paths. From the top, there is a wonderful view of the city, the fortress, the fjord, and the stadium.
Next we visited Rød Manor (Rød Herregård). This estate is over 300 years old and there is a cozy park and gardens next to it. We will definitely come back here in the summer when the roses are in bloom.
And of course, now it was time to enjoy the city center and we started our walk from the harbor. Walking here is a pleasure, the fresh sea breeze carries delicious smells from restaurants. And colorful shops attract the eye.
The city has an elegant pedestrian bridge, it was opened for the new year in 2000, as a gift to the townspeople. We walked along it, crossing the Tista River when we walked to the central park along the pedestrian street Storgata.
Busterudparken was built over a hundred years ago. In the Park, there is an openwork gazebo in which Christmas songs are sung. And a skating rink is being poured nearby.
On the corner of the park is the Church of St. Peter (St. Peter Kirke). It was built in 1877 in the Neo-Gothic style of unpolished red brick.
Walking around the city you think about its history. Swedish forces tried unsuccessfully to invade the city six times, but Halden was never captured by force by any invading army. Although it was occupied by the Nazis during World War II.
By the way, an interesting fact is that Halden is the only city mentioned in the national anthem of Norway.
Well, now is the time to climb the hill to the Frederiksten fortress, which you have already seen in the frame many times during the walk. The beginning of construction of the fortress dates back to the middle of the 17th century - during the wars between Sweden, Denmark, and Norway. For a long time, it served as a defensive structure, as it is located on the border with Sweden. By the way, it is in the middle of Iddefjord (Iddefjorden) that the border between Sweden and Norway passes. And during the siege of the Frederiksten fortress in 1718, the Swedish king Charles XII was killed.
Well, since we are talking about the border, it's time to show you the old and new Svinesund bridges (Svinesundsbroene). This is one of the most picturesque borders of Norway with Sweden across the fjord. We love walking here.

Amazing Fjord Viewpoint on Border of Sweden and Norway, 4k
Road trip and walk to fortress with a stunning view over Norway and Sweden - Europas most beautiful Border Crossing. Quick travel guide for travelers crossing border between Sweden and Norway and about easily accessible viewpoint on Hjelmkollen, fortress with stunning view!
The walk up to Hjelmkollen is only a kilometer long with 70 m vertical total. You should calculate 15 minutes to the top and 10 minutes back down. The views are stunning both from Halden, old and new Svinesundsbro and Hvaler.
The tour starts at the car park at the old customs station at Svinesund terrace / Old Svinesundsbridge. The sign Kyststi marks and / or wooden signs. Follow the gravel road for about 100 meters and turn left on the trail into the dense forest. There is an old carriage with fairly steep climb up the Blåsopp farm.
On top of the hill turn right through the farm and follows wide gravel road further up. At the end of the road you find signs and maps of the military history of Hjelmkollen, and if you have a flashlight, you can walk through the bunker up to the top to the viewpoint. From the top you see Norway's tallest building, The Naxan tower, entrance to Halden city and the fortress. In the opposite direction, you get a panoramic view of old and new Svinesundsbro and expiration of Iddefjorden against Hvaler. The tour is suitable for children, bring a flashlight to the bunker. There are benches and tables so you can enjoy both the view and a meal at the top.

Fredriksten Fortress, Halden Norway
Fredriksten Fortress is situated at the south-east tip of Norway, close to the border with Sweden, and it commands an elevated position above the town of Halden. It is a national border fort, and a regional cultural arena. Some of the most dramatic and bloody events in Norwegian war history have taken place here, the most well-known perhaps being the Swedish King Charles XII's death in 1718.

This fortress in Halden was constructed by Denmark-Norway in the 17th century as a replacement for the border fortress at Bohus, which had been lost when the province of Bohuslän was ceded to Sweden by the terms of the Treaty of Roskilde in 1658. The fortress was named after King Fredrik III of Denmark and Norway, and the town of Halden was also originally named after him, having been known as Fredrikshald between 1665 and 1928.
After 1905 the fortress lost all military significance, but it still hosted various units. As of today the Norwegian defense logistics and administrative college are situated by the fortress. The fortress also hosts several museums and art exhibitions. During the summer season, outdoor concerts are arranged with both classic and contemporary music.

Named after a small farm Hallen first mentioned in 1629, Halden, became the city of Frederikshald in 1665, named after Frederick III of Denmark.
Swedish forces unsuccessfully attempted to invade the town six times between 1658 and 1814. As a reference to the town's citizens burning their own houses to prevent them from being taken on 4 July 1716 by the forces of King Charles XII of Sweden, Halden is one of only two cities in Norway's national anthem. In 1718, the Great Northern War ended when Charles XII was shot at the Fredriksten fortress. The fortress had been erected in the 17th century as a replacement for the Bohus Fortress lost at the Treaty of Roskilde in 1658 when Bohuslän was ceded to Sweden. Halden has never been captured by force by an invading army, although it was occupied by German forces in WWII.

SIGHTSEEING with TRACTOR in Halden, Norway
First time trying sightseeing with tractor and it was a bumpy ride in the cobblestoned streets of Halden. The ride was a part of the Haldenfestival which had several days with food markets, concerts, boat rides, sea plane rides and vikings.
