Ludwigslust is a former Kreis (district) in the southwest of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. Neighboring districts were (from the north clockwise) Nordwestmecklenburg, the district-free city Schwerin, Parchim, Prignitz in Brandenburg, Lüchow-Dannenberg and Lüneburg in Lower Saxony and the district Lauenburg in Schleswig-Holstein. The district was disbanded at the district reform of September 2011. Its territory has been part of the Ludwigslust-Parchim district since.

The district was situated roughly between the river Elbe and the city of Schwerin. Before the 2011 district reform, it was the largest district of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, but very sparsely populated.

Hagenow Land station is a railway junction in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, which was opened on 15 October 1846. It is located about 2.5 kilometres from the centre of the small town of Hagenow. It is classified by Deutsche Bahn as a category 5 station.
The suffix Land in the official station designation indicates, on the one hand, that its location is outside of Hagenow town and is used, on the other, to distinguish it from the station that is situated in the centre of Hagenow; this station is named Hagenow Stadt (town)—until 2010 it was called just Hagenow. It is connected to Hagenow Land by a 3.5 km-long branch line.
The fact that the Berlin-Hamburg railway ever made a 20 km detour via the comparatively small town of Hagenow, which then had 3400 inhabitants, resulted from the negotiations of the five states of Prussia, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Denmark, Lübeck and Hamburg on the construction of the line. The Mecklenburg side under Grand Duke Frederick Francis II undertook in a treaty agreed on 8 November 1841 to subscribe half of the share capital and was able to achieve a route that ran close to the Mecklenburg residence in Schwerin. Hagenow station was provided for the connection with Schwerin (and later with Rostock and Wismar). Original plans foresaw a railway station close to the town. Finally, however, the committee in charge of establishing favourable grades recorded that a line from Berlin [...] Grabow, Ludwigslust touching Hagenow and Boitzenburg but running at a distance of 5/8 mile on the right and 1/3 mile on the left [. ..] is preferable to any other line (note the German mile was 7,532.5 metres long).[5]
On 15 October 1846, the Berlin-Hamburg railway opened to Boizenburg, then spelled as Boitzenburg. Even before that, on 10 March 1846, the Mecklenburg Railway Company (Mecklenburgische Eisenbahngesellschaft) had received the concession to build a line from Hagenow to Schwerin.
Der Bahnhof Hagenow Land ist ein Eisenbahnknotenpunkt in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, der am 15. Oktober 1846 in Betrieb genommen wurde. Er befindet sich etwa zweieinhalb Kilometer vom Zentrum der Kleinstadt Hagenow.
Der Namenszusatz „Land“ in der offiziellen Bahnhofsbezeichnung weist zum einen auf die Lage außerhalb der Ortschaft hin, zum anderen dient er zur Unterscheidung von dem 3,5 Kilometer entfernt im Zentrum der Stadt gelegenen Bahnhof „Hagenow Stadt“ (bis 2010: nur „Hagenow“).
Der zentrale, 200 Meter lange Bahnsteig mit dem Empfangsgebäude verläuft in spitzem Winkel ausgehend von der Abzweigung der Bahnstrecke Hagenow Land–Schwerin von der Hauptstrecke Berlin-Hamburg zwischen den beiden auseinanderlaufenden Schienensträngen und verbreitert sich am Ende auf 38 Meter quer. In dieser Form repräsentiert der Bahnhof Hagenow Land den Idealtyp eines Keilbahnhofs. Auf der südöstlichen („preußischen“) Seite liegt das Gleis 1, auf der nordwestlichen („mecklenburgischen“) Seite Gleis 2. Das dem letzteren gegenüberliegende Gleis der Strecke von/nach Schwerin hat einen eigenen, ebenso langen aber erheblich schmaleren Bahnsteig 3.
Die Hauptgleise der Strecke Berlin–Hamburg haben keinen eigenen Bahnsteig mehr. Haltende Regionalzüge in Richtung Ludwigslust müssen dazu über Weichen hinweg das Gleis aus Richtung Berlin kreuzen und werden mit auf das Gleis 1 neben der Hauptstrecke an den Hauptbahnsteig geführt.
Ein Fußgänger-Tunnel verbindet den Keilbahnsteig mit dem äußeren Bahnsteig mit Gleis 3 der Hagenow-Schweriner Strecke. Dieser Bahnsteig ist auf höhengleichem Niveau frei zugänglich von dem anliegenden Parkplatz mit den Bushaltestellen.

Unseren Besuch in Schwerin nutzen wir, das Mecklenburgische Eisenbahn- und Technikmuseum zu besuchen, was i.d.R. einmal im Monat auf hat (das nächste Mal am 15.5.22 + 28.5. - 25.6.).
Man hat eine interessante Sammlung, nicht nur von Eisenbahnrelikten ,zusammen getragen.
Der Hinweis von Google Earth „ Schlichte Eisenbahnausstellung mit Loks“ ist ein bißchen böse ausgedrückt. Das Museum liegt hinter dem Hauptbahnhof von Schwerin in einer nicht gerade einladenden Gegend. Seine Blase sollte man im WC in Bahnhofsunterführung vorher entleeren.
Für denjenigen, der sich für Eisenbahnen, besonders in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern interessiert, sollte das Museum besuchen.
Durch den Brand im Juli 2023, wo viele Relikte, die man gesammelt, verbrandt sind, sind einige Aufnahmen hier historisch - nicht mehr wiederholbar. Mir tut der Verein Leid.
We use our visit to Schwerin to look into the Mecklenburg Railway and Technology Museum, which is usually open once a month (next time on May 15th, + May 28th - June 25th 2022).
It is a interesting collection not only from railway relics.
The note from Google Earth simple railway exhibition with locomotives is a little badly. The museum is located behind Schwerin's main train station in an uninviting area. There is no toilet in the museum. In the underpass of the mainstation you find one..
For those who are interested in railways, especially in Mecklenburg-West Pomerania, have to visit the museum.
