Haganta, Guam Island 4K View #Haganta #Guam #Tour #travel #traveling #usa #america #island

Hagåtña Chamorro pronunciation formerly in English: Agana, in Spanish: Agaña is the capital village of the United States territory of Guam. From the 18th through mid-20th century, it was Guam's population center, but today it is the second smallest of the island's 19 villages in both area and population. However, it remains one of the island's major commercial districts in addition to being the seat of government.
______________________________

HISTORY
__________________
Hagåtña was a prominent village before Guam's colonization by the Spanish. In 1668, the first Spanish missionary, Padre San Vitores arrived on the island. The family of Chief Kepuha donated land in Hagåtña enabling San Vitores to build the first church (Dulce Nombre de Maria Cathedral-Basilica) on Guam.

Under Spanish rule, much of the indigenous population of Guam and other Mariana Islands was forced to relocate to the city. The remains of buildings from the Spanish administration can be seen in the Plaza de España located beside the cathedral of the Archdiocese of Agana. The remains of the Spanish Governor's Palace is here and is closer to the Department of Education than the Cathedral.

After Guam was ceded by Spain to the United States in the Spanish–American War of 1898, 'Agana' remained the seat of government under U.S. Naval Administration. By 1940, the city's population had grown to about 10,000 containing nearly half of the island's residents. Villages had been established nearby for immigrants from the Caroline Islands.

Guam was captured by Japanese forces on December 8, 1941. The Japanese, renamed Guam Ōmiya-jima (ja.: 大宮島) or Great Shrine Island, and Agana Akashi (ja.: 明石) or Red or Bright Stone. During Guam's 1944 liberation from the Japanese during World War II, the city was heavily damaged by U.S. naval bombardment. Many former residents settled in other parts of Guam after the war. As part of Guam's reconstruction plan, the U.S. Navy constructed new straight city streets that passed through existing lots and created many plots of land with multiple owners. This has hindered the development of the city to the present day. In December 1944 Guam was the scene of the Agana race riot, between black and white servicemen stationed on the island.

Today, despite a resident population of only 1,100 (less than 1% of Guam's total), the city remains the seat of the territorial government. Its historic sites are major attractions for visitors. Hagåtña is served by Antonio B. Won Pat International Airport in Tamuning and Barrigada.

Culture
_________________________

As Guam's historic population and administrative center, many traditional celebrations take place in Hagåtña. On December 8, Santa Marian Kamalen, Patroness of the Mariana Islands, is honored with a procession in which a statue of the patroness is pulled on a cart amid the prayers of thousands of the island's Catholics.[7] Guam's most celebrated patriotic holiday, Liberation Day, is on July 21. The annual Liberation Day Parade takes place on Marine Corps Drive in Hagåtña. In addition to the historic sites at the Plaza de España and the Basilica, Latte Stone Park and the Chamorro Village shopping area offer further information about the island's history and culture.

THINGS TO DO IN GUAM- BEST PLACES TO VISIT IN GUAM // INARJAN POOLS - 4K

If you’re looking to visit Guam and want to explore some of the more remote, natural locations, then Inarajan Pools should definitely be on your list. This is a spot with a very intriguing geology. You have multiple natural bathing spots that are surrounding a public park on the main road navigating the island. Near these, you have some coral outcroppings that are similar to the volcanic island lava flow. This is a protective shield during the days with heavy seas, since you only have small ripples in the shallow pools. That makes it perfect for anyone to enjoy a bath without any worries. When you visit the Inarajan Pools, you will be amazed with the water spilling in from the oceans and the coral fish in this region. On top of that, driving to the Inarajan Pools is an adventure on its own, but getting there is exciting and a lot of fun. There are some barbecue areas and places to accommodate, so it’s definitely an interesting place to explore during your visit in Guam.

Hagåtña is the wonderful capital of Guam, travel , hotels, Agana Bay and beaches

Hagåtña

and in Spanish Agaña, is the capital city[3] of the United States territory of Guam. From the 18th through mid-20th century, it was Guam's population center, but today it is the second smallest of the island's 19 villages in both area and population. However, it remains one of the island's major commercial districts in addition to being the seat of government.

The village is bounded by the sandy beaches of Agana Bay to the north, the Agana River and associated wetlands to the east, and a cliff (above which is the village of Agana Heights) to the South. Several high-rise office buildings are in the center of the village, while the western portion of the city known as Anigua is more residential. Unlike many villages, central Hagåtña is divided into city blocks with shops and small restaurants throughout the center of the village. Highly populated residential areas in the villages of Mongmong-Toto-Maite, Sinajana, and Agana Heights surround Hagåtña.

THINGS TO DO IN GUAM - BEST PLACES TO VISIT IN GUAM // TALOFOFO BAY - 4K

Talofofo Bay is a beautiful inlet found in the southeast coast of Guam. This is widely known for being a very accessible brown sand beach in Guam, and it’s also one of the most iconic. The brown sand comes from sand and silt deposits from the Talofofo river. It looks amazing, especially when compared to the limestone-coral white sand in the region as well. When you visit Talofofo Bay, you will also get to check the Aratama Maru shipwreck from WWII. Being able to explore the shipwreck and learning more about the extraordinary battles that took place here during WWII is astonishing, and there’s definitely a lot to learn here, which is amazing in its own right.

Talofofo Bay is also a great place for snorkeling. There’s plenty of sea life for you to see, ranging from turtles to smaller shark species, fish that are unique to this area and so on. It’s just downright amazing, and you will appreciate the entire set of extraordinary adventures you can have here.
This is also an ideal place for surfing as well. It’s just a whole lot of fun to explore all these locations, and the fact that you can also do a bit of hiking can be quite interesting. There are also a few seaside caverns and caves. Some can be dangerous to visit, but it’s still incredible to explore some of them and see the inner beauty of this location.

Planning My Trip to Guam 2023 | Can't wait to visit my home island again!

#guam #islandlife #travelvlog #guamlife

I had left my beautiful home Guam in 2021, and now I'm coming back for a visit this year! I'm so excited to see family and friends, revisit some of my favorite spots, and also to gain new experiences and see what has changed or developed since I've been gone. If you're planning a visit or vacation, or you may be moving to the island soon, I hope this video helps you with planning your trip as well!

1. Travel - Flying from Norfolk, VA to Guam will take about 18-19 hours of travel time (yikes!) With this also being the first time I will travel with a baby on my own, I took advantage of reserving bulkhead seats for the longer flights, as these can accommodate a bassinet. For the shorter flights, I upgraded to Economy Plus seats since they have more legroom and will be more comfortable for me as I would have to hold my baby on my lap.

2. Lodging - For majority of my stay, I will be at my mom's house. I will also be checked into a hotel for a few nights during my sister's wedding events. I definitely wanted to move around the island a bit so I also looked on AirBnB and found an awesome spot in Tamuning which is right on Dungca's Beach, one of my favorite spots! I figured, why not treat myself a little bit with a venue right by the beach?

3. Revisiting favorite spots and experiences
- Jimmy Dee's: one of my favorite beach spots in Tamuning where we would go for good vibes and fun activities such as frisbee, beer pong, awesome music, doggy play time, and beautiful sunsets
- Two Lovers Point: a cliffside tourist site in Harmon/Dededo which also holds a special place in my heart because my husband and I got married there :) You'll find an breathtaking view of the ocean from their lookout point!
- Simply Food: a vegetarian and vegan grocery store and lunch counter in Agana Heights. I had worked here from almost a year before leaving Guam, and my coworkers really had come to feel like family. Not only was it a great place to work, but their food is absolutely delicious! I can't wait to indulge in their daily lunch specials, hearty soups, and vegetarian baked goods. I might buy out all of their zucchini muffins when I swing by, haha!
- Horse and Cow: a restaurant and sports bar in Tamuning. I was the bartender here for over 4 years and enjoyed all my experiences, both as an employee AND as a customer! It was just one of those fun places with awesome food and drinks and especially bar games.
- Wednesday nights at Chamorro Village: Wednesday night is the big night market held at Chamorro Village in Agana. With awesome food vendors, craftsmanship, local entertainment and activities, it's definitely something every newcomer to Guam has to experience!
- Capricciosa: one of my favorite restaurants featuring a fusion of Italian and Japanese flavors.
- Snorkeling: Of course I had to include my favorite water activity while I lived on Guam. There are so many beautiful snorkeling spots around the island where you can safely swim and also catch a glimpse of the wonderful marine life. Some of my favorite spots were Fish Eye, Gab Gab, Old Wives Beach, and Ague Cove. There are many more that I'm sure I haven't see yet, so be sure to explore as much as you can!

4. Wish list/new experiences
- Village fiesta: I don't know if there will be any public fiestas happening while we're visiting, but attending one is always a treat. You can expect to experience delicious homemade dishes, friendly people, and awesome fiesta dance music.
- Valley of the Latte Tour: Located in down south in Talofofo, this is a cultural tour and adventure park that has become a hot tourist attraction for newcomers, and I haven't attended yet! Trying to keep close to my roots, I definitely have this on my itinerary to gain a culturally educational experience.
- Rhythmic cycling: Before we left Guam in 2021, I had gotten into rhythmic cycling which became a big part of my workout regimen. When we left, my sister ended up training and becoming an instructor so I was so sad to be missing out on her classes :( BUT the great news is that she is opening her own studio Made Wild, and it'll be in full swing by the time we visit, so I'll be able to finally take one of her classes (or a few)!
- New dance video: The first Guam video I made to kick off my channel was Dancing Around Guam and I wanted to do a new one for my visit back and incorporate some of my fellow dance colleagues this time. Not only willI get to feature the talented dance community on Guam, but I'll also get to showcase the island's beauty all over again!
