The city of Frankfurt am Main has a lot going for it, but most of the old buildings aren't really old and the place can get crowded with tourists. So instead let's go a little way out of town for something a bit more authentic, and learn a bit about St Anthony's fire into the bargain.

Visiting Lake Constance
There aren't many places in the world where you can visit four countries in one trip without traveling farther than a few dozen miles. One of those places is Lake Constance (aka Bodensee in German). Lake Constance is fed by the Rhine River and borders Germany, Austria, Switzerland - and just 40-minutes away - the small Principality of Liechtenstein.

At Germany's biggest lake, the Bodensee (lake Constance), is one of the best cities to visit in Germany. If you are planning to travel the South of Germany make sure to put it on your route, it's the perfect place if you're looking for an authentic & traditional German experience. There are almost no foreign tourists.
Lindau is in the most southern part of Bavaria on a little island on the lake Constance, directly bordering Austria (by land) and Switzerland (by water). The city is hosting every year the Nobel Laureate Meetings.

Wenn man im Internet nach den schwersten Skipisten in Europa oder den Alpen sucht, dann taucht diese Abfahrt in Alpe d Huez mehrfach auf: Die Piste Noire Le Tunnel Alpe D'Huez ist nicht nur bei Skifahrern beliebt - auch viele Snowboarder wagen es, teilweise mit GoPro bestückt, den Hang hinunter. Ski Crash und Unfälle stehen aber leider auch auf der Tagesordnung, nachdem die Fahrer den ca. 100 Meter langen Tunnel durchfahren haben.

Wenn Kärntner über ihre Heimat sprechen, fällt das Wort Paradies verblüffend oft. Es mag an der Vielseitigkeit Kärntens liegen. Denn eingerahmt von schroffen Alpengipfeln bietet es mediterranes Klima und hunderte warmer, sauberer Badeseen, manch einer türkisblau leuchtend wie in der Karibik. Der größte See, der Wörthersee, ist europaweit bekannt als die Riviera Österreichs. Und auch das Meer ist durch die Grenzlage zu Italien und Slowenien nicht fern. Doch Kärnten ist nicht nur von seiner Lage begünstigt, sondern bietet auch einen Schatz an unzähligen Mythen und Geschichten.
Da ist der Fischer aus Passion, der nach Jahren als Hotelier nur noch Kunden beliefert, die er mag. Der Gastronom, der auch seine eigene Seele nähren will. Der Bootsbauer am Ossiacher See, der beim Bau seiner Holzkanus aus einer persönlichen Krise fand. Der Falkner, der Kärntens wilde Vogelwelt schützt. Oder die Bierbrauerin, in deren Kräutertrunk sich der Geschmack Kärntens wiederfindet. Die letzten Flößer auf der Drau feiern eine Tradition, die Jahrhunderte überdauert hat. Die Mitglieder der Band Popwal schätzen die Musikalität in der Region und den weichen, klangvollen Dialekt. Eine Triathletin und österreichische Olympia-Hoffnung nutzt die außergewöhnlichen Trainingsmöglichkeiten Kärntens. Sie alle eint ein Bewusstsein für das Außergewöhnliche ihrer Heimat. The Wachau is the most beautiful section of Austria’s Danube Valley and Dürnstein is a fascinating small town with a long history. Dürnstein is a splendid place, once well protected by a castle and defensive walls. Its sixteenth and seventeenth century buildings and narrow streets were decorated with Bacchanian Baroque in the eighteenth century by art-minded religious leaders. A magnificent portal leads to the courtyard of an Augustinian canon monastery that dates back to 1410 and that was renovated in 1980. Master builders such as Joseph Muggenast, Jakob Prandtauer and Matthias Steinl created this sacred splendour for provost Hieronymus. The interior of the church is decorated with lush Baroque and its high altar and choir stalls are remarkable works of art. The tabernacle is of a world globe shining with a golden light above the altar and sacred images, paintings plus a splendid pipe organ. The ruins of Kuenringer Castle are located here and the legend of the adventures of English prince, Richard The Lionheart, and his faithful servant, the minstrel, Blondel, has survived to the present day. Richard was imprisoned here and released only after payment of thirty-five thousand kilos of silver. Dürnstein has always been influenced by the Danube and its history continues to be reflected within its waters.

MAINRADWEG FAHRRADTOUR FRANKFURT AM MAIN – OFFENBACH – HOECHST
Eine Fahrradtour auf den Fahrradwegen entlang vom Main vorbei an Frankfurt am Main bis nach Offenbach Hafen und zurück bis nach Frankfurt Höchst ist ein wunderschönes Erlebnis.
Auf der Südseite ist der Mainradweg durchgehend entlang des Mainufers mit vielen Parks und auf der Nordseite gehen die Fahrradwege teils durch Industriegebiete, aber auch durch schöne Landschaften. Teilweise werden die Fahrräder auf der Nordroute über Straßen geleitet. Beindruckend und sehenswert sind die Skyline von Frankfurt, die vielen Mainbrücken, das unübersehbare Hochhaus der EZB und so manchen skurrilen Einwohner der Stadt, die das Mainufer an sonnigen Tagen bevölkern.
Es lohnt sich einen Abstecher zum Frankfurter Römer zu machen, dem historischen Rathausplatz von Frankfurt. Wunderschön sind die vielen historischen Gebäude und gut besuchten Gässchen der Frankfurter Altstadt.
Mit Frankfurt Höchst verbindet man eigentlich nur Chemiefabriken. Am Mainufer ist aber eine schöne Altstadt mit einem Schloss und mit einer Mainfähre für Fußgänger und Radfahrer kann man die Uferseite wechseln.
Meine Fahrradtour entlang vom Mainradweg war knapp 42 km lang und ist absolut empfehlenswert. Ich habe die Tour genossen.

The Wachau is the most famous stretch of the Danube in Austria, thirty six kilometres of romantic Danube Valley. Today’s townscape of Krems brings back bygone days and a particularly beautifully-preserved street complex. More than a hundred buildings provide an authentic picture of the Old Town. Today, the buildings’ façades and entrances are decorated in the traditional way and show off the town’s splendid Renaissance and mediaeval buildings. Sacred monuments recall the victory of Catholicism over Protestantism following two centuries of hostilities. Up the Danube to Dürnstein, a place with a long history and unique appearance. Arrival by boat is particularly scenic and a jetty leads to a wall from where a gate and steps provide access to the Old Town. The small mediaeval town clings picturesquely to the cliffs above the Danube, guarded by castle ruins and fortified walls. In Roman times, vines were cultivated in this picturesque area due to the region’s ideal growing conditions and Weissenkirchen has always been a wine-growing centre. The steep river valley and its terraced vine gardens enjoy a temperate climate. The small village has a long and dramatic history and its old houses and lanes are indelibly evocative of the past. Spitz is picturesquely embedded within its surrounding vineyards, and the legendary Thousand Bucket Mountain is an imposing sight. It was not only due to wine but also the trading of both wood and salt that Spitz attained an important position in the Middle Ages and at the beginning of modern times. Since the year 2000, the Wachau has been a World Cultural Region, a gem on the long route of the Danube, a picturesque river valley where both mediaeval and Baroque create an exceptional atmosphere, and nature, the perfect setting.
