Hanover Zoo is located in the city centre of Hanover, Germany. The zoo was established on 4 May 1865, and comprises an area of 22 hectares. It contains about 3,414 animals in 237 species, which are cared for by more than 400 employees in the summer season.

Hanover Zoo is the fifth oldest German zoo. It was established in 1865 with private money. To cover expenses, a stock company was founded. Without any experience in the keeping of wild animals, the company faced significant difficulties and, as a result, losses. It was often visited by local residents.

Due to the consequences of World War I, ever increasing subsidies by the government were needed to keep the zoo open. In 1920, the city took over, but in 1922, when the zoo was no longer financially viable, it was closed. Two years later, in 1924, due to public pressure and private commitment by the animal trading company Ruhe, it was re-opened with a lions' canyon and monkey rock. In 1932, Ruhe completely took over the zoo and used it as a showcase for their pet shop. Often, the animals were only exhibited for a few weeks before they were sold.

During World War II, the zoo was badly damaged. In 1946, Ruhe restored parts of the zoo provisionally and few animals could be seen until the reopening in 1950. As time passed and with funding from the municipal budget, new enclosures were built for rhinos, elephants, giraffes, antelopes, seals, and penguins. At this time, Hanover Zoo was renowned for its elephant breeding program: 10 Asian and 3 African elephants were born. In 1972, the zoo was again taken over by the city of Hanover.

In the early 1990s, the zoo had continuously falling visitor numbers. In 1994, it was converted into a limited company and sold to Hanover Region and work on a new concept started the next year. €111.9 million has since been invested in the zoo's development. Since 2000, more than a million people have visited the zoo annually. In 2005, the Winter-Zoo was introduced, in 2007, the children's paradise Mollywoop was opened, in spring 2010, the Australian Outback and in May 2010, the seventh theme world followed. A Canadian theme world Yukon Bay was opened, a world record of five Asian baby elephants were born in one calendar year at the zoo, and it received the 2009/10 ‘Best Zoo’ award. More than 1.6 million people visit every year.

Hannover The Red Line for Tourists and the Old Town

Hannover, Germany's old town (what is left of it) has a few treats for the tourist. One thing that makes seeing the sites in Hannover so easy is the Tourist Red Line you will see painted on the ground. Just follow the red line and it will take you to all the major sites. It is very helpful if you do get lost as it passes by all the important areas (so its safe). So if you are in Hannover Hanover for CEBIT or another trade fair at the Messe there are some things for you to see.

Unseren Rundgang durch Hannover starten wir am Bahnhof. Wir besichtigen danach u.a. die Oper, flanieren über die Georgsstrasse, schauen uns die Aegidienkirche an und bestaunen das Neue Rathaus. Danach machen wir einen Abstecher zum Maschsee. Das Leineschloss und die Altstadt mit dem Alten Rathaus stehen danach auf unserem Programm.

A propósito, a francesa Niki (que você deve conhecer da fonte Stravinsky em Paris) possui uma ligação especial com Hannover. A cidade atuou como sua mecenas, instalando suas Nanás no centro da Skulpturenmeile, a milha de esculturas na orla do rio Leine (no longínquo ano de 1974, quando ela ainda não era um nome consagrado). A artista, falecida em 2002.

Hannover: Stadtrundgang - Der rote Faden

Corona! Keine Reisen möglich! Also Urlaub daheim. ^^ Ich erkunde meine Heimatstadt Hannover. Wir machen einen Rundgang - den roten Faden - durch die wunderschöne Landeshauptstadt Hannover.

Was macht man, wenn aufgrund der Corona-Krise keine Reisen möglich sind? Man macht Urlaub daheim und nutzt die Zeit um die eigene Heimat zu erkunden. An einem Samstag mir herrlichem Wetter packen wir also die Kameras und machen uns auf den Weg einen umfangreichen Spaziergang durch Hannover zu unternehmen: Wir erkunden den roten Faden von Hannover. Einen 4,7km langen Rundgang durch die Innenstadt der Landeshaupt Niedersachsens, der an vielen wichtigen Sehenswürdigkeiten vorbei führt. Der Rundgang startet vor dem Hauptbahnhof an der Touristeninformation, wo man eine begleitende Broschüre zum roten Faden (für 3€) käuflich erwerben kann. Von dort geht am Opernhaus vorbei durch die Georgstraße, zum Aegi (Aegidientorplatz) und der Aegidienkirche, weiter zum neuen Rathaus, dem Maschpark und dem Maschsee, der eigentlich nicht teil des roten Fadens ist (warum eigentlich nicht?), aber einen lohnenswerten Abstecher darstellt. Eine Maschseerundfahrt fällt aufgrund der Umstände aus, wird aber nachgeliefert. Auch eine Fahrt auf die Kuppel des Rathaus müssen wir nachholen. An der Leine entlang geht es in die Altstadt und an der Marktkirche vorbei, quer durch die Innenstadt und über den Kröpcke zurück zum Hauptbahnhof. Hier fährt normalerweise auch ein Hop-On-Hop-Off Bus, den ich euch gerne gezeigt hätte, aber auch das müssen wir nachholen.

Hanover (German: Hannover) is the capital and largest city of the German state of Lower Saxony. Its 535,061 (2017) inhabitants make it the 13th-largest city in Germany as well as the third-largest city in Northern Germany after Hamburg and Bremen.
Hanover is a city both old and new. It has a deep historical background, with a series of reconstructions having taken place due to the ravages of war. But it is also a modern city, with one of the leading reputations for hosting exhibitions in the world.
Our guided walking tour is about 3.73 miles (6 km) long, starts at Masch Park, ends at Hanover Central Train Station and covers most attractions and historic sites of Hanover.

Walking in HANOVER / Germany ????????- 4K 60fps (UHD)

Hanover (German: Hannover) is the capital city of the Lower Saxony state in Germany. The city of Hanover is also third largest in the Northern Germany area after Hamburg and Bremen.

We start our afternoon tour at the Ernst August Platz in front of the central train station. We walk South the popular shopping area of the city.

This day is busy with people in the streets as we head West towards the Steintor. The stone gate used to be a medieval city gate where the square now only bears its name.

Our tour continues South to see the Leine river. Some art installations and a few cafés along the Am Hohen Ufer make it a relaxing area in the inner city centre.

As we walk back to the inner city centre, we see some older architecture, the market with the market church and the old town hall.

The modern shopping area is still busy as we walk back to the central station where we end this half hour walk.
