Himavad Gopalaswamy Betta, is a hill located in the Gundlupete Taluk, Chamarajanagar district of Karnataka. It is the highest peak in the Bandipur National Park. It lies in the core area of the Bandipur National Park and is frequented by wildlife. Dense fog predominates and covers the hills round the year and thus gets the prefix Himavad(in the language of Kannada) and the temple of Venugopalaswamy (Lord Krishna) gives the full name of Himavad Gopalaswamy Betta.

Hedathale Lakshmikantha Swami temple Mysore tourism Nanjangud tourism Karnataka Tourism
Lakshmikantha Swami temple ,Hedathale, Nanjangud tourism Mysore tourism, Karnataka Tourism, Karnataka temple. This was built in 1182 C E. Hoysala Veera Ballala III got this temple constructed. Lakshmikantha statue is in position of Shama sayanam or Mudra Dharana ( wearing of the symbol) .As per Sri Vaishnava Culture after Sudarshana Homa the Shanka chakra were heated and the Chakra was pressed on the right hand and Shanka on the left hand, causing a permanent mark, after which the person was considered purified. One specialty here is that generally behind Krishna, Venugopala generally is the Adishesha but in this temple Adishesha is not there.
The Lakshmi kantha Swamy temple situated at the center of the village is the centre of tourist activity in this village. This is an ancient temple and is at least 700 years old. It is an exquisite piece of Hoysala architectural marvel and is constructed in the trikootachala style with a triad of shrines around a central atrium. From the vantage point of the central atrium one can simultaneously view the three deities. Lakshmikantha (literally the Lord of Lakshmi) adorns the central sanctum sanctorum. Venugopala and Lakshminarasimha comprise the other two deities of the triad. A beautiful image of Andal adorns a corner of the central atrium. Another enclosure houses the images of Sri Ramanuja, Vedantha Desika and other alwars. Outside the main complex, at the entrance gate are shrines of Ganapathi and the Navagrahas. For most part of the last century, this temple was in a dilapidated state. But towards the turn of the last century, this temple was renovated due to the untiring efforts of Sr Veerendra Hegde, Sri Rangapriya Swami and the financial support of the TVS group. Sri Sri Rangapriya Sri Sri, was a prominent sanyasi in southern India and was instrumental in the revival of the Lakshmikantha swami temple.
The specialty of this place is that when the lights are on the statue looks like a normal statue, but when the lights are switched off , and in the light of the mangala arthi, it appears that the statue eyes looking straight at us, with a smiling face. The other speciality of the Mantapa or Chavadi at this temple is that it is a 16 faced Mantapa consisting of 16 seats. Bhimanna Dandanayaka the palyegara (ruler) got this 16 faced Chavadi (a place of assembly) constructed, because he had 16 daughters and after their marriage.
The king and the queen had a desire to see their daughters frequently, but if they visit their daughters turn by turn, then the administrative requirements of the place would suffer as they were 16 of them. So they would fix a day and invite all of them over. The Kind Queen daughters and the son in laws would all gather here and enjoy the singing concert, a dance programme, or some cultural programme performed at the stage like platform at the center of the Mantapa from morning to evening.
To avoid any confusion as to which one was which son in law they got each pair seated together in numerical order.
Also earlier generations there was a practice, that the Mother in law would not see her son-in –law directly face to face. Keeping that practice in mind the Chavadi was designed such that the King can see all 32 people that is all of his daughters and son in laws but the queen can only see her daughters. The daughters husband sitting next to them are not visible to Queen.
Hedathale is a village in the southern state of Karnataka, India. It is located in the Nanjangud taluk of Mysore district in Karnataka. At the bank a river in rishis (Sage) used to do Homa, Havana and poornahavathi which is done at the end. At that time, somewhere a Rakshasa would come running at and stamp that homa or pour blood over it .This way he would spoil their homa. The rishis when to Koundilya Maharishi and requested him for a solution to their problem. So Koundilya Maharishi does penance to Narayana and when Narayana appears he requests for the Rakshasa to be killed. Narayana Kills the Rakshasa, cuts that Rakshasas head and throws it to the left side. The village his head fell is known as Yedathale which means Yeda (left) thale(head) and in common usage has become Hedathale.

Gundlupet knows as Karnataka's Flowerpot is famous for the Sunflower and Marigold farms. Large number of tourist visits gundlupet during the month of June to September to enjoy the beauty of the blossoming yellow sunflowers and the blooming orange marigold.
Interestingly, farmers often charge ₹50 for taking photos from their farmlands. The sunflower grown here are taken to Mysuru for oil extraction and the Marigold cultivated here are used for festivals like Onam.
Gundlupet is the last town in the state of Karnataka, situated very close to Kerala and Tamil Nadu state borders. Gundlupet is around 56KM from Mysore Ooty Highway and around 200km from Bangalore.

Huligina Maradi is a hill located in the Kilagere village of Gundlupete Taluk, Chamarajanagar district of the state of Karnataka. It has a temple dedicated to Lord Srinivasa. It is also known as Huligadri, Dakshina Seshadri and Vyagrachala. ಹುಲುಗನ ಮುರಡಿ ಶ್ರೀ ವೆಂಕಟರಮಣ ಸ್ವಾಮಿ ದೇವಸ್ತಾನ.Gundlupete tourism Chamaraja Tourism, Karnataka Tourism Temples of Karnataka. Hulugana Muradi Sri Venkataramanaswamy Temple is situated on the top of Huligadri hill, in Terakanambi, Gundlupete taluk, Chamarajanagara district, Karnataka. It is about 8.2 km from Terakanambi, about 19 km from Gundlupete and about 213 km away from Bangalore. The presiding deities of the temple are Sri Venkataramana Swamy, Goddess Alamelu Mangamma, Goddess Godhadevi (Andal), Sri Vykunta Narayana Swamy, Sri Bhoo Nila Sametha Sri Srinivasa Swamy and Sri Bhoo Varaha Swamy. This place is popularly known as Dakshina Sheshadri, as narrated in ‘Srimad Varaha Purana’. Lord Sri Srinivasa, worshipped by Lord Sri Rama in threthayuga, Pandavas in Dwaparayuga, Agasthya maharishi and Adishesha. Lord Venkataramana blessed the great saint ‘Mandavya Maharishi’ on his performance of long penance. This is an ancient temple of Lord Srinivasa situated on Huligadri near Terakanambi, Gundlupet Taluk, Chamarajanagar Distr, Karnataka State (80 kms from Mysore).This is popularly known as Dakshina sheshadri, as narrated in ‘Srimad Varaha Purana’. Lord Sri Srinivasa, worshipped by Lord Sri Rama in threthayuga and Pandavas in Dwaparayuga, blessed the great saint ‘Mandavya Rishi’ on his performance of long penance.
Dakshina Seshadri is the abode of Lord Srinivasa. The holiness and sacredness of this place with miraculous powers of the reigning deity is well depicted in six chapters of Srimad Varaha Purana. The Purana Purusha in Varaha Rupam narrated the essence of the Purana to his life partner, Bhoodevi which was imparted later by Lord Brahmadeva to Narada Maharshi and subsequently vedavyasa Maharshi, who in turn, preached Sootha puranikas. Finally Shoukanadi Maharshi, was blessed with the great Epic.
Dakshina Seshadri nestles between Swethadri and Kamaladri in a picturesque with the river Kaveri flowing some miles away. Being called as Seshadri in Kritayuga, Kanakadri in Tretayuga, Venkatadri in Dwaparayuga and Vyagradri in the present Kaliyuga besides popularly known as Huligina Muradi, among the folk of the surroundings, it is the dwelling place of the LORD on the Peak of Meru mountains. Lord Narayana, as in vaikunta is worshipped here by immortal divine beings of Devaloka and mortal beings of Bhooloka alike. The three water ponds existing on the shrine are sacred as narrated hereunder: “Dhanushkoti pond: This pond was sprung by Lord Ramachandra with bow and arrow while he was on his way to Sri Lanka, as he wanted to take bath to worship Lord Srinivasa to seek his blessings to conquer the demon Ravana. A dip in the pond will fulfill one’s desires in life”. “Vedapushkarani pond: This is situated to the north of Dhanushkoti pond. When rakshasa Somaka stole the Vedas, Paramapurusha killed him disguised as a fish, collected all the Vedas in the form of Hayagriva and taught the Vedas to his son Brahma in the form of a swan. The Lord was very tired and sweat poured out of his body profusely, these droplets formed the Vedapuskarani pond. It is believed a dip in this pond also grants favours”. “Viraja pond: This pond is a mile away from Vedapuskarani. Since this is a creation of the almighty it is also called Vaikunta Thirta. “A maharshi named Mandavya performed penace at Pushkara to propitiate Lord Narayana but his wish was not fulfilled. So he left Pushkara and went to Venkatadri, the present Thirumala and resumed his tapas there. Lord Narayana was immensely pleased and gave darshan to Mandavya as an old Brahmin and instructed him to proceed to Huligina Muradi to invoke god’s blessings with fervour. Accordingly Mandavya went to Dakshina Seshadri and once again immersed himself in severe penace. Lord Narayana blessing him with his divine darshan, assured him that he would reside there along with Bhoodevi and Neeladevi and accept worship daily from all devotees. Mandavya vividly witnessed the occasion of Lord Narayana transforming himself in to a Vigraha (Statue) in the presence of Lord Brahma and other divine powers who performed the installation of the Deity”.

Sri Srikanteshwara Temple ( Nanjundeshwara Temple) Nanjangud || Mysore Tourism
Nanjangud officially known as Nanjanagudu is a City and Taluk in Mysore district in the Indian state of Karnataka. Nanjangud lies on the banks of the river Kapila (Kabini), 23 km from the city of Mysore .KSRTC Buses, Private Buses and Trains ply regularly from Mysore City. It is 163 kms away from Bangalore. Nanjangud is famous for Srikanteshwara / Nanjundeshwara Temple.
The Srikanteshwara Temple at Nanjangud is dedicated to the Hindu deity Shiva described as Nanjundeshwara. Nanjunda means one who has consumed poison and this legend relates to the churning of the ocean when Shiva had to consume haalahala. Nanjunda became Visha kanta and also Srikanta for having digested it. Hence the deity is also known as Srikanteshwara, one cures diseases . Nanjangud has been a major Shaiva centre for nearly a thousand years. Chola Kings in the 11th – 12th century are considered to have set in motion the construction of the temple with significant additions by the Hoysalas and the Vijayanagara kings.This temple was later renovated by the Hoysala kings. The Wodeyar kings of Mysore made various grants to renovate the temple.
The Dodda Jaathre festival at Nanjangud by temple attracts thousands of devotees. The festivities in the fair includes five colorful chariots that are pulled by devotees on a path called the ratha beedi.
