Pattadakal ಪಟ್ಟದ್ಕಲ್ಲು UNESCO World Heritage site Pattadakallu Raktapura Malaprabha River Bagalakote

Pattadakal, ಪಟ್ಟದ್ಕಲ್ಲು, UNESCO World Heritage site Pattadakallu, Raktapura, Malaprabha River Bagalakote Karnatak Tourism in Kannada vlog ಕನ್ನಡದಲ್ಲಿ
Pattadakal, also called Paṭṭadakallu or Raktapura, is a complex of 7th and 8th century CE Hindu and Jain temples in northern Karnataka (India). Located on the west bank of the Malaprabha River in Bagalakote district, this UNESCO World Heritage site[1][2] is 14 miles (23 km) from Badami and about 6 miles (9.7 km) from Aihole, both of which are historically significant centres of Chalukya monuments.[3][4] The monument is a protected site under Indian law and is managed by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).[5]

UNESCO has described Pattadakal as a harmonious blend of architectural forms from northern and southern India and an illustration of eclectic art at its height.[2] The Hindu temples are generally dedicated to Shiva, but elements of Vaishnavism and Shaktism theology and legends are also featured. The friezes in the Hindu temples display various Vedic and Puranic concepts, depict stories from the Ramayana, the Mahabharata, the Bhagavata Purana, as well as elements of other Hindu texts, such as the Panchatantra and the Kirātārjunīya.[2][6] The Jain temple is only dedicated to a single Jina.[7] The most sophisticated temples, with complex friezes and a fusion of Northern and Southern styles, are found in the Papanatha and Virupaksha temples.[8][9] The Virupaksha temple is an active house of Hindu worship.

Aihole Temples: Uncovering The Lost Valley of Ancient India in Karnataka

Aihole Temples in Karnataka represent the the evolution of two unique architecture styles and is often considered the precursor to the Pattadakal Temples - the zenith of Chalukya temple architecture style.

Located in North Karnataka, Aihole is also often called the cradle of Hindu Temple Architecture and today it's a small village with about 120 temples spread over an area of 5 sq km.

I recently visited Aihole and spent two days there exploring these amazing ruins from 8-12 century CE. The most famous temple here is Durga temple famous for it's unique shape and detailed carvings, but there are many other beautiful temple complexes here too like the Mallikarjuna Comple, Meguti Jain Temple, Hucchimalli Gudi, Ramalingeshwara Temple and Galaganatha Temple Complex.

There's only one hotel in town called Hotel Mayura and it's well below average. However, there's no option so one has to stay there itself.

Pattadakal Temples: Uncover India’s 1000 Years Old Secrets

Pattadakal was once the cultural capital of the Chalukya Empire, and today it stands tall as a testimony of their phenomenal strides in art and architecture. Pattadakal is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is truly unique as both the North and South Indian Temple architectural styles (Nagara and Dravida) co-exist here.

The site opens early morning at 6am and I strongly recommend reaching here when the gates open. There's no hotel here so you'll need to make Aihole or Badami as your base and take an auto-rickshaw, or taxi from there to come here.

One of the temples, Virupaksha Temple, is also a functional temple and it's great to be there when the prayers happen. Most of the temples here are dedicated to Lord Shiva, though other Hindu deities are also present. More details on the temple in the video.

About Bagalkot tourism :

Bagalkot brags of a shining social legacy that has been enhanced by its heavenly verifiable and strict foundation. Delighting in its rich heritage, the city is known for its great happy festivals. An extraordinary opportunity to visit the city is during the four-day celebration of Holi Habba when it is doused in variety. The Chalukya Utsav, held consistently in February, is the feature of the city's social situation. You can get a brief look at the city's conventional expressions, for example, traditional music and dance structures. Various exercises encompassing the verifiable and archeological wonders of Bagalkot can likewise be appreciated.

With its conventional markets, Bagalkot is the ideal spot for an agreeable shopping experience. The handloom woven Khadi sarees and pieces of clothing, enhanced with delightful ethnic examples, are a must-purchase. The business sectors are loaded up with unpredictably cut painstaking work of sandalwood and stone, which make magnificent keepsakes. You can likewise purchase small scale examples of different strict divinities, made from wood, earth and stone.

Aihole ಐಹೊಳೆ Cradle of temple architecture Durga temple Hunagunda Bagalakote Karnataka Tourism

Aihole, ಐಹೊಳೆ, Cradle of temple architecture, Hunagunda Taluk, Bagalakote tourism, Karnataka Tourism.Aihole (pronounced Eye-hoḷé), also referred to as Aivalli, Ahivolal or Aryapura, is a historic site of ancient and medieval era Buddhist, Hindu and Jain monuments in Karnataka, India that dates from the sixth century through the twelfth century CE. Most of the surviving monuments at the site date from the 7th to 10th centuries.Aihole is a major archaeological site featuring over one hundred and twenty stone and cave temples spread along the Malaprabha river valley, in Bagalakote district.Hunagunda Taluk Distance 35km .
Aihole, along with nearby Badami (Vatapi), emerged by the 6th century as the cradle of experimentation with temple architecture, stone artwork, and construction techniques. This resulted in 16 types of free-standing temples and 4 types of rock-cut shrines. The experimentation in architecture and arts that began in Aihole yielded the group of monuments at Pattadakal, a UNESCO world heritage site.
Over one hundred Aihole temples are Hindu, a few are Jain and one is Buddhist. These were built and coexisted in close proximity. The site is spread over about 5 square kilometres (1.9 sq mi). The Hindu temples are dedicated to Shiva, Vishnu, Durga, Surya and other Hindu deities. The Jain Basadi temples are dedicated to Mahavira, Parshvanatha, Neminatha and other Jain Tirthankaras. The Buddhist monument is a temple and small monastery. Both Hindu and Jain monuments include monasteries, as well as social utilities such as stepwell water tanks with artistic carvings near major temples.
Aihole was fortified by Late Chalukya kings in the 11th and 12th centuries, in an approximate circle. This indicates the strategic and cultural importance of Aihole to the kings whose capital was far away. Aihole served as a hub of Hindu temple arts in this period with guild of artisans and merchants called the Ayyavole 500, celebrated for their talent and accomplishments in the historical texts of the Deccan region and South India.
