A video with the tourist attractions of Guimarães, a city located in the north of Portugal in the district of Braga. Here are filmed the old streets and squares of Guimaraes, as well as the Gothic monuments, decorative convents and mansions for nobility. As a tourist destination, there is a lot to see and do in Guimarães. The main attractions are : the castle (Castelo) of Guimarães, the Palace of the Dukes of Braganza (Paço Ducal), and the Alberto Sampaio museum. The most visited squares are Largo da Oliveira (where is the Collegiate Church of Our Lady of the Olive-Tree), Largo do Toural (where is a fragment of the wall with the inscription Aqui nasceu Portugal), and Largo República do Brasil (where is Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Consolação e Santos Passos church).

Braga has the highest concentration of religious buildings in Portugal. At first, we thought they would be similar to other cities we've visited in Europe. We quickly learned that Braga's religious architecture was incredibly unique! Both the Cathedra of Braga and Bom Jesus du Monte had really unique elements that we haven't seen in other places in Europe (and trust us - we have visited a LOT of churches - they're nearly always free, so they're budget-friendly!). Bom Jesus du Monte has interesting history, too. Pilgrims used to go up to the chapel, climbing all the 577 stairs on their knees, as a tribute to the pain Jesus felt while being crucified. The sunset from on top of the hill was simply amazing.

Guimaraes to Live or Only to Visit? | What You Need to Know
Josh and Kalie from ExpatsEverywhere explore the city of Guimaraes (Guimarães) and what it would be like to live there as an expat. The city is widely recognized as the cradle of Portugal due to it being the birthplace of King Afonso 1.
Guimaraes has a good amount of young people because of the number of universities there including one of the campuses of Universidade do Minho. Guimaraes also has one of the best soccer (football) fanbases in the country that enthusiastically supports Vitória de Guimaraes. The city itself does a have a smaller feel so if that’s what you’re looking for in a place to call home, it might just be for you.

Guimarães
Known for well-preserved medieval buildings like the hilltop, 10th-century Guimarães Castle and the restored Dukes of Bragança Palace, built in the style of a French chateau. Between the palace and the castle is the Romanesque São Miguel do Castelo Church, built in the 13th century. The whole town has a sleepy medieval feel with wonderful streets and architecture makes it well worth a visit.

Guimaraes and Braga | A Day Trip From Porto, Portugal
We had a great day exploring Guimaraes and Braga during our stay in Porto, Portugal. We tried to fit as much as we could into our day. Doing both Guimaraes and Braga in the same day is doable but it was verging on a bit too much. Keep that in mind if you are planning on doing both by public transport. If you have a car and drive, it would definitely be doable.
