BRIEF HISTORY
IN 1822, CAUAYAN WAS FORMALLY FOUNDED BY DON VICENTE PAULO DECENA, BELIEVED TO HAVE COME FROM CEBU. HE WAS ENTICED INTO CAUAYAN BY THE LEGENDARY BEAUTY OF A NATIVE GIRL WHO SUBSEQUENTLY BECAME HIS WIFE.
LUBAY-LUBAY FESTIVAL PORTRAYS AND PRESERVES THE EARLY CULTURE OF CAUAYANONS IN FACING ADVERSITIES,
IT IS A THANKS GIVING CELEBRATION OF THE LOCALS ABUNDANCE AND BOUNTIFUL HARVEST, THE SPIRIT OF UNITY, COOPERATION, CAMARADERIE AND ESPECIALLY FOR THE BLESSINGS ENDOWED BY THE ALMIGHTY. CAUAYANONS CELEBRATE ALSO THERE PATRON SAINT OF THE MUNICIPALITY, THE FEAST SR. SAN PABLO.
Cauayan got its name from bamboo thickets abundant in the area. Spelled as “Kawayan” (tagalog term of Bamboo) during the Spanish colonization and eventually became Cauayan during the American occupation. Bamboos are naturally tall and thin and tends to bend.
LUBAY-LUBAY CAME FROM HILIGAYNON WORD LUBAY MEANS (BEND) AS THE THE BAMBOO SWAY IN THE BLOW OF THE WIND.
THUS, THE LUBAY-LUBAY FESTIVAL WAS FOUNDED.
