Guápiles is one of Costa Rica's most popular cities and it sits within the country's banana growing region. Located right near the central highlands and Caribbean coast, it is the first major town when you travel along Highway 32 as you go towards Puerto Limón or to San José. Thanks to its tropical, lush landscape and many adventure opportunities, Limón Costa Rica is a great place to travel to during your next Costa Rican adventure.
An Introduction to the Area

Guápiles is close to the Costa Rica Caribbean as well as the country's capitol – San José. Because it is just 60 kilometers northeast of the capitol, it has become somewhat busy and today, many services and shopping centers can be found along the main streets of the city.
The city is also situated near a number of Costa Rica national parks and ecological reserves, which makes it an ideal destination for those who are interested in exploring the country's incredible beauty and diverse wildlife. Because the city has grown over the years, there are also more lodging facilities available to travelers. As a result, more and more resources are being dedicated to eco-tourism, which makes the city more than just a place to stay when people travel to nearby reserves and parks.
What to Explore

In addition to its many wellness centers and resorts, visitors are encouraged to stop by the agricultural market on Saturdays. This market showcases some of the country's finest produce grown by nearby farmers.
While visitors may find quite a bit to do in the actual city of Guápiles, tourists should also consider making a trip to the area's nearby national parks, which include the following:
Braulio Carrillo National Park—This national park is home to many dormant volcanos, primary cloud rainforests, and crater lakes. This park, which was established in 1978, covers 500 square kilometers and features many different ecological habitats. Those who visit can see 600 identified species of trees, 135 different mammals, and 520 different species of birds.
Tortuguero National Park—This national park can only be reached by either boat or airplane. One of the most popular national parks in the country, its large annual rainfall and humid tropical climate lend itself to incredible biodiversity. There are more than 2,000 plant species present and tourists can see crocodiles, jaguars, spider monkeys, and a variety of turtle species in the park.
Another popular activity visitors can try is ziplining over the rainforest's canopy. Many activity centers offer this activity and travelers can make their way shortly out of the city boundaries to experience this type of exciting adventure.
Getting to the City
=================
After arriving in San José, visitors to the country can get to Guápiles either by driving or taking a bus. From the capitol, it takes about an hour to get to this thriving city. Those who decide to come from the Caribbean side of Costa Rica can jump on Highway 32 going west from Puerto Limón straight to Guápiles. Whatever way visitors get there, they can enjoy beautiful views during their travels and once they get to their destination.

Bombera for a Day in Guápiles, Costa Rica: Living like a Local
On the way to Natalia's Costa Rican wedding, I stopped for two days in her hometown of Guapiles. Our other foreign exchange student friend from high school, Antonio, took me around to do ALL of the things. Thank you for everyone who let me interject myself in your lives! Such a great day.

Centro Manú, Guápiles, Costa Rica - Observación de aves
Nos fuimos a la bella zona de Guápiles a Centro Manú, duramos aproximadamente hora y media de San José (capital) al sitio. Nos recibió Kenneth el guía turístico del lugar. En Manú hay varios ambientes para pajarear: tiene una zona de jardines y bordes de bosque dónde se pueden ver diversas especies de colibríes, tangaras, tucanes, saltarines y también el famoso pájaro estaca. Tiene senderos que se internan en un bosque propio de la selva tropical, húmedo y con mucho verdor, árboles altos, palmas, claros de bosque y quebradas. Unas de las especies que se ven en este bosque es el Pájaro Sombrilla y el Aguilucho Negro. Además de observar aves, pueden disfrutar de una delicosa comida con sabor caribeño y del hospedaje en las cabinas estilo rústico. ¡Súper recomendado!

Our destination was Centro Manú, in the beautiful area of Guápiles. It took us about one hour and a half to reach the destination from San José. Kenneth was our local guide. They have different birding zones: hummingbird gardens, open areas and trails inside the forest. Several species of hummingbirds, tanagers, manakins, toucan, and one Great Potoo. This tropical forest presents a lot of greenery, tall trees, palms, forest clearings and ravines. Two of the main bird species to look out for are the Umbrella bird and the Black Hawk-Eagle. Besides birding activities, Centro Manú offers delicious caribbean-style food and cabins to stay the night. Highly recommended!

Catarata La Danta Salvaje - Guápiles, Limón.
En la zona de Guápiles, en medio de altas y profundas montañas del Parque Nacional Braulio Carrillo se encuentra ésta impresionante catarata.
La primera vez que la vi fue cuando me detuve sobre la ruta 32 por la llantera que está contiguo al teleférico, desde ahí no podía creer que existiera una catarata con doble caída y estuviera tan ''cerca'' o lo que parecía relativamente cerca a la vista humana.
Adentrarse en éste parque nacional nunca fue ni será fácil, pero con los compañeros adecuados cualquier meta es alcanzable.

I've been traveling Costa Rica for a month now and I've loved Costa Rica so far! Today I'm exploring one of the most famous waterfalls in Uvita Costa Rica! Costa Rica has amazing waterfalls and I discovered one of them today! I didn't quite know what to expect from this waterfall. I was a bit worried that it wouldn't be that good because of how popular it is. I was so wrong! This waterfall was so much more fun than I thought! I HIKED TO A SECRET BEACH IN JACÓ, COSTA RICA
I go looking for a lush, secret beach to relax on here in Costa Rica and what I find is a slice of paradise. Best of all, I have the beach all to myself.
In this video, I will take you on a hiking exploration in Jacó and set out to find a beautiful hidden beach and hike over to the neighbouring town of Playa Herradura. From amazing mountains and ocean views to lush vegetation, this video will provide you with a unique perspective on adventuring in Jacó.
