Guápiles is one of Costa Rica's most popular cities and it sits within the country's banana growing region. Located right near the central highlands and Caribbean coast, it is the first major town when you travel along Highway 32 as you go towards Puerto Limón or to San José. Thanks to its tropical, lush landscape and many adventure opportunities, Limón Costa Rica is a great place to travel to during your next Costa Rican adventure.
An Introduction to the Area

Guápiles is close to the Costa Rica Caribbean as well as the country's capitol – San José. Because it is just 60 kilometers northeast of the capitol, it has become somewhat busy and today, many services and shopping centers can be found along the main streets of the city.
The city is also situated near a number of Costa Rica national parks and ecological reserves, which makes it an ideal destination for those who are interested in exploring the country's incredible beauty and diverse wildlife. Because the city has grown over the years, there are also more lodging facilities available to travelers. As a result, more and more resources are being dedicated to eco-tourism, which makes the city more than just a place to stay when people travel to nearby reserves and parks.
What to Explore

In addition to its many wellness centers and resorts, visitors are encouraged to stop by the agricultural market on Saturdays. This market showcases some of the country's finest produce grown by nearby farmers.
While visitors may find quite a bit to do in the actual city of Guápiles, tourists should also consider making a trip to the area's nearby national parks, which include the following:
Braulio Carrillo National Park—This national park is home to many dormant volcanos, primary cloud rainforests, and crater lakes. This park, which was established in 1978, covers 500 square kilometers and features many different ecological habitats. Those who visit can see 600 identified species of trees, 135 different mammals, and 520 different species of birds.
Tortuguero National Park—This national park can only be reached by either boat or airplane. One of the most popular national parks in the country, its large annual rainfall and humid tropical climate lend itself to incredible biodiversity. There are more than 2,000 plant species present and tourists can see crocodiles, jaguars, spider monkeys, and a variety of turtle species in the park.
Another popular activity visitors can try is ziplining over the rainforest's canopy. Many activity centers offer this activity and travelers can make their way shortly out of the city boundaries to experience this type of exciting adventure.
Getting to the City
=================
After arriving in San José, visitors to the country can get to Guápiles either by driving or taking a bus. From the capitol, it takes about an hour to get to this thriving city. Those who decide to come from the Caribbean side of Costa Rica can jump on Highway 32 going west from Puerto Limón straight to Guápiles. Whatever way visitors get there, they can enjoy beautiful views during their travels and once they get to their destination.

For a month now I have been working in sloth conservation, and since then I have had the privilege of learning about what sloths eat. For any sick or injured animal, it is essential to provide a natural diet before they are released back to the wild. All sloths were born to be free, so learning about what different herbivores in the rainforest do and don’t eat has been extremely interesting for me.

En este episodio de My Next Ride nos fuimos para el atlántico de Costa Rica, en la provincia de Limón, específicamente a Barra Parismina Jalova. Nos fuimos a pescar Robalo, uno de los pescados más cotizados de la zona por su buen tamaño pero sobre todo su exquisito sabor.
Aprovechamos para andar en bote por la zona, conocer los canales y con la esperanza que nunca se pierde de ver un jaguar, ya que en la zona ha habido avistamientos con regularidad, aunque principalmente en la época de desove de tortugas. Aunque sí vimos varios monos congos además de cocodrilos a la orilla del río
Esta es una zona de bosque virgen ideal para desconectarse, comúnmente visitada por la comunidad de pesca por su gran potencial.
Esmeralda Lodge es un lugar rústico, lo que lo hace ideal para quedarse, ya que cuenta con todos los servicios y su paquete incluye comida, la cual es exquisita.

Puerto Viejo de Talamanca is a coastal town in Talamanca in Limón Province in southeastern Costa Rica, known simply as Puerto Viejo to locals. The town was originally called Old Harbour until the Costa Rican government institutionalized Spanish as the national language and changed the names of the towns and landmarks in the area from English to Spanish or Native American. Fields became Bri Bri. Bluff became Cahuita. There is another town commonly known as Puerto Viejo in northeastern Costa Rica, Puerto Viejo de Sarapiquí, which can confuse visitors. Buses leaving the same San José station for either of the Puerto Viejos display the same destination, Puerto Viejo.
Puerto Viejo de Talamanca is a popular tourist destination. It is known in the surfing community for the biggest and most powerful wave in Costa Rica, known as Salsa Brava. It is also home to beautiful beaches, such as Playa Chiquita, Playa Negra and Punta Uva, which are a few of Costa Rica's most spectacular beaches which can be found between Puerto Viejo and Manzanillo. Manzanillo is a popular location for kayaking and is 13 km (8 mi) south along the beach. The popular Jaguar Rescue Centre is nearby.
Many tourists stop in Puerto Viejo en route to the Panamanian border at Sixaola. This border crossing is popular with people going to and from Bocas del Toro. Puerto Viejo offers the closest accommodations, restaurants, and services to the border. The small border towns of Sixaola and Guabito, Panama are 49 km (30 mi) south of Puerto Viejo. The border towns have no accommodations or restaurants. The townspeople are made up of ticos (native Costa Ricans), a substantial amount of Costa Ricans of Jamaican descent, as well as a number of Europeans who have emigrated to the area.
The outskirts of town and the mountains are home to the indigenous Bribri people. The howler monkey is native to the region.
Talamanca is a canton in the Limón province of Costa Rica. The head city is Bribri, located in Bratsi district.
Talamanca has an area of 2,809.93 km² and a mean elevation of 29 metres.
The county is noted for its beautiful beaches, especially in Cahuita and Puerto Viejo (Old Harbor), which are popular tourist locations.
Talamanca contains one of Costa Rica's three official border-crossing points with Panamá, the Sixaola-Guabito crossing.
Limón is one of seven provinces in Costa Rica. The province covers an area of 9,189 km2, and has a population of 386,862.
The majority of its territory is situated in the country's Caribbean lowlands, though the southwestern portion houses part of an extensive mountain range known as the Cordillera de Talamanca. The province shares its northern border with Nicaragua via the Río San Juan, its western borders with the provinces of Heredia, Cartago, and Puntarenas, and its southern border with Panama via the Río Sixaola. Within the province there are six cantons, or counties, which include Pococí, Guácimo, Siquirres, Matina, Limón, and Talamanca. Each cantón has several local districts.
Limón is one of the most culturally diverse of Costa Rica's provinces, housing a significant Afro-Caribbean and indigenous population. Several languages (Spanish, Limón Creole) are spoken, and due mainly to its cultural ties to the Caribbean islands, dishes like rice and beans are ubiquitous throughout the province, along with reggae, calypso, and soca music (see Demographics).
The capital is Puerto Limón, and other important cities include Siquirres, Puerto Viejo de Talamanca, and Guápiles.
Locals refer to themselves as limonenses.
Costa Rica, officially the Republic of Costa Rica (Spanish: República de Costa Rica), is a country in Central America, bordered by Nicaragua to the north, the Caribbean Sea to the northeast, Panama to the southeast, the Pacific Ocean to the southwest, and maritime border with Ecuador to the south of Cocos Island. It has a population of around five million in a land area of 51,060 km2 (19,710 sq mi). It's possible to have a quick, affordable jaunt to the Switzerland of Central America.
