Bei unserem Besuch in der Große Kreisstadt Grimma (Sachsen) haben wir uns insbesondere den Marktplatz mit Rathaus, die Klosterkirche, das Schloss, die Pöppelmannbrücke und das Gymnasium St. Augustin angeschaut.

Bad Lausick is a town in the Leipzig district, in the Free State of Saxony, Germany. It is situated 12 km southwest of Grimma, and 29 km southeast of Leipzig.
Area: 69.79 km2 (26.95 sq mi)
Population 2014: 8,057 (120/km2 or 300/sq mi)

If you come off the motorway in Germany you can find some wonderful places, this is one of them. A village lost in the countryside and hard to find hosted me for a wonderful afternoon and I was able to profit from a very nice walk and bicycle ride.
This film also shows some wonderful views of the Mulde river. The Mulde is a left tributary of the Elbe and 124 km in length. The river is formed by the confluence, near Colditz, of the Zwickauer Mulde (running through Zwickau) and the Freiberger Mulde (with Freiberg on its banks), both rising from the Ore Mountains. From here the river runs northwards through Saxony (Grimma, Wurzen, Eilenburg, Bad Düben) and Saxony-Anhalt (Jeßnitz and Dessau, the old capital of Anhalt). The Mulde flows in to the Elbe 3 km north of Dessau.
In August 2002 a flood caused severe damage, that even endangered the UNESCO World Heritage Site Dessau-Wörlitzer Gartenreich and the city Dessau. Especially the cities of Döbeln and Grimma suffered from the damages of the flood. You can see my video from Grimma also on the tenth anniversary of this flood.
The name Mulde could be derived from Old German (possibly Gothic) Mulda meaning dust and a cognate of English mould). But more possibly it is related to the German mahlen which means to mill. Therefore, Mulde probably means the milling river and corresponds to the great number of water mills driven by the river in former times. Nowadays, there are hydroelectric power stations in use - as well as a very small waterwheel you can see in this film.

Fast jeder Motorradfahrer hat schon mal davon gehört. Dort hinfahren trauen sich nur die Härtesten unter ihnen ????
Natürlich hören sich -9 Grad, Schnee und Eis nicht gerade einladend an sich aufs Zweirad zu schwingen. Aber die Idee existiert nun immerhin schon seit 1956!
Und auch dieses Jahr haben es wieder knapp 2.700 Biker aus ganz Europa hier her geschafft!

Am Freitag bei Eiseskälte schob ich meine V-Strom 280 Km über die eingeschneite Autobahn bis in den Bayerischen Wald! Dort warten schon 5 Kumpels mit einem Zeltplatz mitten im Geschehen auf mich.
Gemeinsam verbrachten wir ein Wochenende mit Lagerfeuer ???? Bier ???? und jede Menge verbrannten Benzin ⛽️ ????????
Beim ersten Besuch auf dem Elefantentreffen gibt es zwei Möglichkeiten. Entweder man kommt nie wieder oder immer wieder. Wir gehören definitiv zu letzterem!!!
Von diesem Wochenende werden wir noch eine ganze Weile erzählen! Es war dermaßen cool, dass wir zu 100% nächstes Jahr wieder dabei sind!

Eine Stadt schreibt Geschichte
Menschen waren seit jeher vom Muldental fasziniert. So entstanden bereits vor der ersten urkundlichen Erwähnung aus dem Jahre 1200 die ersten slawischen Siedlungen. Die strategisch gute Lage an der Mulde veranlasste 1170 den Markgrafen Otto den Reichen, eine Stadt anzulegen. Die Bewohner bauten die erste feste Muldenbrücke und entwickelten ein selbstbewusstes und geschäftstüchtiges Bürgertum. Im 14. Jahrhundert stand Grimma in der wirtschaftlichen Blüte. Selbst als sich das wirtschaftliche Zentrum der Region immer mehr nach Leipzig verlagerte, blieb Grimma ein florierender Standort. Bis heute.

Im Schloss residierten häufig meißnische Markgrafen und die sächsischen Kurfürsten. Albrecht der Beherzte, der Stammvater des sächsischen Königshauses, wurde hier geboren. Er nannte sich deshalb auf seiner Wallfahrt nach Palästina Junker von Grym. Im Jahr 1344 erfolgte die Ersterwähnung der Bürgerwehr Die Geharnischten im Städtebund Torgau, Oschatz und Grimma, die in der Wurzener Fehde 1542 historische Berühmtheit erlangte. Die Bewohner bauten die erste feste Muldenbrücke und entwickelten ein selbstbewusstes und geschäftstüchtiges Bürgertum. Im 14. Jahrhundert stand Grimma in der wirtschaftlichen Blüte. Selbst als sich das wirtschaftliche Zentrum der Region immer mehr nach Leipzig verlagerte, blieb Grimma bis heute ein florierender Standort.
In Grimma wurden seit 1440 mehrere Landtage gehalten. Auf dem Landtag von 1458 stiftete Kurfürst Friedrich der Sanftmütige die Leipziger Neujahrsmesse. Hier verhandelten 1511–1546 Abgeordnete der beiden sächsischen Linien; durch den „Grimmaischen Machtspruch“ wurden vierzigjährige Streitigkeiten über Münz- und Bergsachen beigelegt. Katholische Kirche
1523 verließ Katharina von Bora, die spätere Frau Martin Luthers mit weiteren Nonnen das Kloster Nimbschen nahe Grimma.
Die Stadtbrauerei wurde um 1300 gegründet (seit 1858 Brauerei Hildebrandt, seit 1872/1880 Brauerei Frohberg, bis ca. 1918 Stadtbrauerei).[8][9][10] Von dieser Brauerei stammt die Bezeichnung „Frohberg“ für den einen der beiden weit verbreiteten Typen untergäriger Bierhefe (Saccharomyces pastorianus bzw. S. carlsbergensis), der andere Typ ist nach Saaz (heute: Žatec) benannt (durch Paul Lindner 1909).[11][12][13][14]
1857 wurde die katholische Kirche St. Trinitatis eingeweiht.
Grimma war ab 1952 Kreisstadt des Kreises Grimma und von 1994 bis 2008 des Muldentalkreises und besitzt nun den Status einer Großen Kreisstadt.
Vom Hochwasser um den 13. August 2002 wurden zahlreiche Häuser der Altstadt zerstört oder stark beschädigt; mittlerweile konnten jedoch fast alle wieder aufgebaut werden. Die historische Muldebrücke wurde durch das Hochwasser zerstört und ab September 2009 in hochwasserangepasster Bauweise wiederaufgebaut.[15] Am 19. August 2012 wurde sie wieder für den Verkehr freigegeben.[16] Ein von Friedhelm Lach geschaffenes Denkmal aus Rochlitzer Porphyr erinnert an die Hochwasserkatastrophe.
Im Mai/Juni 2013 traf die wieder aufgebaute Stadt eine neue Überschwemmungskatastrophe mit ähnlichen Folgen für die Altstadt wie im August 2002.[17] Die rekonstruierte Muldebrücke hielt der neuen Hochwasserwelle stand, durch die verbesserte Konstruktion des Bauwerkes konnten die von der Brücke ausgehenden Hochwasserauswirkungen durch Rückstau gegenüber 2002 vermindert werden.[15]
Die von den beiden Hochwassern verursachten Schäden lagen jeweils im dreistelligen Millionenbereich: So betrug nach MDR-Informationen die Schadensbilanz 2002 rund 250 Millionen Euro; 2013 waren es noch einmal 150 Millionen Euro.[18]
Zum Schutz der Stadt wurden nach 2013 vorhandene Gebäudemauern ertüchtigt sowie eine freistehende Hochwasserschutzmauer mit verschließbaren Toranlagen und eine unterirdische Dichtwand als Bohrpfahlwand errichtet.[19]
Die Hochwasserschutzanlage wurde im Juni 2019 fertiggestellt (Gesamtkosten 60 Millionen Euro). Am Wochenende des 24./25. Juli 2021 wurde, vermutlich durch Vandalismus, ein Tor der Anlage so stark zerstört, dass es nicht mehr funktionsfähig ist.[20]
