Grand River South East Mauritius Vlog

We explore the Grand River South East area or GRSE as everyone seems to call it. We started at the dock where we met a local guy Steve with his boat, Andre. We then walked around the Laguna Beach Hotel and flew the drone over it. Next up was the hunt for food.

Luckily an old BMW 318i stopped us at a great snack shop called Site shop on Google maps. We ate great fish roti and the best-fried chicken in Mauritius. A quick stop at the fish landing and ferry point to look around. I got some solar-powered ice cream.

We continued and got to a lookout point full of monkeys and met Louis. We flew the drone over the waterfall and then headed to the sugar mill, Deep water Beau champ. It was an epic adventure.

Adventure of Sugar, top tourist attraction in Mauritius

We visited the famous tourist attraction the Adventure of Sugar or L'Aventure du Sucre, as it is officially called. As one of the top must-do tourist attractions in Mauritius, we were expecting big things and boy did it deliver. Starting from the outside with a train and huge sugar mill equipment I was like a kid in a candy store. The adventure comes to life in the museum, it is very well done, taking you from the beginning of Mauritius all the way through the history and actually letting you walk through the internal workings of a mill until you finally leave, with sugar and rum tasting.

Ganga Talao also known as the Grand Bassin of Mauritius, is a crater lake located in the mountainous southwestern Savanna region. A temple stands by the lake along with a collection of small shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva and other gods. The Ganga Talao lake is about 18 meters deep and teems with a healthy population of fish and eels. It is a place of pilgrimage, and pilgrims make their way to the lake every year at the time of Maha Shivaratri. In 2007, a huge statue of the Hindu god Shiva was unveiled, which remains the tallest statue in Mauritius at about 33 meters. The sight of the Mangal Mahadev statue is quite impressive as it is a beautifully crafted majestic statue. Grand Bassin / Ganga Talao has ample parking and toilets and entry to the site is free, but donations are welcome. The Bois Chéri tea plantation is also nearby.

SAYING GOODBYE TO MAURITIUS (Best Things To Do Around Mahebourg) - Mauritius Road Trip Ep. 9

It’s our last day on Mauritius and we’re sad to leave! In this video we make the most of our last day and explore the best things to do around Mahebourg. Mahebourg is a town on the east coast of Mauritius, which is the least visited side of the island. Before driving to Mahebourg we spent some time in a resort in Quatre Cocos, as you can find some good deals in this area. We then check in to our guesthouse in Mahebourg, try manioc biscuits that are famous on Mauritius, head to a restaurant that is supposed to serve the best Biryani on Mauritius (it is delicious) and then drive to Blue Bay for a great spontaneous snorkelling trip. This was the perfect way to end our Mauritius road trip and we hope you enjoyed coming along!

Grand Retraite Mauritius lives up to its Grand name.

Grand is an understatement for this fantastic place. Everyone was so friendly. From the shopkeepers to the people waiting for the bus. Then there is the history in the rivers and sugar mills, not to forget the best roti in Mauritius.

Starting on the river with its endemic lilies that are only found on this river. One of the original bloggers of the time, Clark, remarked on how they would flower at mid-day. Then onto Petit Retraite, the village of kindness, with the shop, that I called the mall of Petit Retraite, that had everything you need, including a fantastically friendly shopkeeper, who truly loves his ancient store.

Into the thick sugarcane to visit the old national heritage sugar mill chimney and the telling of the murder of Madam Lehec. A tale of murder and torture, to curl your toes in horror as we fought our way through the sharp cane leaves.

Then off to bird antler, with its church and chessboard at the bus stop. We stopped off to watch the repair of a shop that has been in the same location for over 150 years. It was great to see them restoring and preserving this great old structure.

Grand Retraite has a well-looked-after chimney, that is easily accessible and in very fine condition. It is also the site of the only private property in Mauritius in which the army moved in and took it over. Less than 100 meters from this chimney is an unassuming street food vendor that has what Riki called The Best Roti in Mauritius and I fully agree with her.

For a group of smaller villages, this place should be on the map as a must-visit. If for nothing else than to meet the great, friendly, and welcoming locals, and of course that great roti, and don't be a fool, order 5 or more.

Mauritius Must Visit Attractions and Things To Do HD

The Beautiful Island Must Visit Mauritius Attraction HD.Best things to do in Mauritius island with name of places.

Mauritius (French: Maurice), officially the Republic of Mauritius (French: République de Maurice), is an island nation in the Indian Ocean about 2,000 kilometres (1,200 mi) off the southeast coast of the African continent.
CAPITAL
Port Louis is the capital city of Mauritius, in the Indian Ocean. It's known for its French colonial architecture and the 19th-century Champ de Mars horse-racing track. PEOPLE
Approximately 68% of the population is of Indian decent, most of whom are descendants of indentured labourers brought to work in the sugar industry during the 19th and early 20th centuries. About one-fourth of the population is Creole (of mixed French and African descent), and there are small numbers of people of Chinese and Franco-Mauritian descent.

EXPORTS
More than half of the country’s area is arable, and it is almost entirely planted in sugarcane, the major export crop. Vegetables and tea for local consumption are also grown.

Mauritius also has very close ties with Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Seychelles, Comoros, Zambia, Mozambique, Sudan, Djibouti, Malawi, South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana, Gabon,Botswana, South Africa, Namibia, Senegal, Benin, Côte d'Ivoire, Mali, Burkina Faso, Senegal , Egypt and Burundi among other African Countries.

MAURITIUS Things To Do - Mauritius Attractions |4k|

Things to do in Mauritius. Mauritius attractions.
Mauritius ( French: Maurice; Mauritian Creole: Moris ), officially the Republic of Mauritius, is an island nation in the Indian Ocean about 2,000 kilometres (1,100 nautical miles) off the southeast coast of the African continent, east of Madagascar. It includes the main island (also called Mauritius), as well as Rodrigues, Agaléga and St. Brandon. The islands of Mauritius and Rodrigues, along with nearby Réunion (a French overseas department), are part of the Mascarene Islands. The main island of Mauritius, where most of the population is concentrated, hosts the capital and largest city, Port Louis. The country spans 2,040 square kilometres (790 sq mi) and has an exclusive economic zone covering 2,300,000 square kilometres (670,000 square nautical miles).

Arab sailors were the first to discover the uninhabited island, around 975, and they called it Dina Arobi. The earliest confirmed discovery was in 1507 by Portuguese sailors, who otherwise took little interest in the islands. The Dutch took possession in 1598, establishing a succession of short-lived settlements over a period of about 120 years, before abandoning their efforts in 1710. France took control in 1715, renaming it Isle de France. In 1810, the United Kingdom seized the island, and four years later, in the Treaty of Paris, France ceded Mauritius and its dependencies to the United Kingdom. The British colony of Mauritius included Rodrigues, Agaléga, St. Brandon, the Chagos Archipelago, and, until 1906, the Seychelles. Mauritius and France dispute sovereignty over the island of Tromelin as the Treaty of Paris failed to mention it specifically. Mauritius remained a primarily plantation-based colony of the United Kingdom until independence in 1968.

In 1965, the UK split off the Chagos Archipelago from Mauritian territory to the British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT). The local population was forcibly expelled between 1968 and 1973 and the largest island, Diego Garcia, was leased to the United States. The sovereignty of the Chagos is disputed between Mauritius and the UK. In 2019, the International Court of Justice issued an advisory opinion ordering the UK to return the Chagos Islands to Mauritius, and in 2021, the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea ruled in support of this, saying that the UK has no sovereignty over the Chagos Islands.

Owing to its geographic location and centuries of colonialism, the people of Mauritius are highly diverse in ethnicity, culture, language and faith. It is the only country in Africa where Hinduism is the most practised religion. Indo-Mauritians make up the bulk of the population with significant Creole, Sino-Mauritian and Franco-Mauritian minorities. The island's government is closely modelled on the Westminster parliamentary system and Mauritius is highly ranked for economic and political freedom along with being the only African country with full democracy.[ Mauritius is also the continent's only country with very high Human Development Index. According to the World Bank, the country is classified as a high-income economy. It is also ranked as the most competitive, and one of the most developed economies in the African region. The country is a welfare state. The government provides free universal healthcare, free education up through the tertiary level and free public transportation for students, senior citizens, and the disabled. In 2019, Mauritius was ranked the most peaceful African country by the Global Peace Index.

Along with the other Mascarene Islands, Mauritius is known for its varied flora and fauna. Many species are endemic to the island. The island was the only known home of the dodo, which, along with several other avian species, was made extinct by human activities relatively soon after the island's settlement. There are other endemic animals like for example: the Mauritian parakeet, the kestrel, and the pink pigeon.

Mauritius is a major tourist destination, and the tourism sector is the fourth contributor to the Mauritian economy. The island nation enjoys a tropical climate with clear warm sea waters, beaches, tropical fauna and flora complemented by a multi-ethnic and cultural population. The forecast of tourist arrivals for the year 2019 is maintained at 1,450,000, representing an increase of 3.6% over the figure of 1,399,408 in 2018.

Mauritius currently has two UNESCO World Heritage Sites, namely, Aapravasi Ghat and Le Morne Cultural Landscape. Additionally, Black River Gorges National Park is currently in the UNESCO tentative list.
