Episode 5
Govindgarh Palace, also known as Govindgarh Fort, is a palace located in Govindgarh, Madhya Pradesh, India. Built in the 19th century in 1853 by Raja Raghuraj Singh, ruler of Rewa and Govindgarh, who used the fort-like structure as a palace. The palace compound contained a number of buildings and temples, and at one point housed Mohan, the first white tiger found in India. The palace remained in use for nearly a century, but Indian Independence and the subsequent decline of the Princely state of Rewa led to the fort being vacated. A museum was later established in the building.
In 2018 it was announced that the fort was going to be refurbished and converted into a luxury hotel.

Gobindgarh Fort is a historic fort located in the center of the city of Amritsar in the Indian state of Punjab. The Fort was earlier occupied by the army but is now open to the public from 10 February 2017.Today the fort is being developed as a unique live museum, as a repository of Punjab’s history
History:
It was originally built by Gujjar Singh Bhangi, the local chieftain in the 18th century Gobindgarh was conquered and enhanced in the early 19th century by Maharaja Ranjit Singh who renamed it after the 10th Sikh guru, Guru Gobind Singh. The fort had five cannons which included the famous two ‘Zamzama' cannons, also called ‘Bhangiyon-de-tope'. The structures built during this phase were the circular path in the nter part of the innermost enclosure, Toshakhana, and Bastions. In 1805, Maharaja Ranjit Singh strengthened the fort. One of the main reasons to erect the fort was to save Harminder Sahib and the city from the invaders using the Grand Trunk road throughout the 18th century who often attacked the city for the purpose of loot. During this phase, the moat and gates were built using the initial mud foundations to a contemporary military defense structure inspired from French military fortress plans. The fort was renovated with help of a French architect. It is reported that Maharaja Ranjit Singh kept his treasure at the Toshakhana which included the famous Koh-i-noor and supplies for an army of 2000 soldiers in the fort. In 1849, the British captured the fort and made significant changes were made during the period. Also, significant changes were made to the bastions and gates as the new artillery technology was adopted.

The Gobindgarh Fort is the epitome of Punjab. Punjab was forged during these times, and this is an emblem of the time. This magnificent, heritage site, spread across 43 acres in the heart of Amritsar city, has a glorious history of its own, spanning 257 years – from the era of the Bhangi Misl to the time of Maharaja Ranjit Singh- to The British East India Company to The Indian Army to now, when it finally opens its gates to the people of Punjab.
Despite being under renovation, the Gobindgarh Fort has quickly gained prominence and is now one of Punjab's most popular tourist destinations. Because of its historical significance in Amritsar. It has already been declared by several tourists to be one of the best places to visit in India.
Attractions in Amritsar's Gobindgarh Fort
The following are some of the key attractions at Gobindgarh Fort
Maharaja Ranjit Singh's treasury was initially kept in Toshakhana, a domed structure. There he stored the famous Kohinoor diamond. It presently holds a remarkable collection of antique and rare coins, as well as a coin museum.
Gates that used to enable multi-level entrance inspections, allowing the troops to launch surprise attacks if the fort was invaded.
The moat that runs around the fort's perimeter. At the base, it is roughly 6 metres deep and 20 to 25 metres broad.

Darbar Hall, which was previously a hospital and was later turned into an officers' mess during the Indian army's occupation.
At the fort's four corners, there are four bastions.
The Anglo Sikh Bungalow, also known as the Colonial Bungalow, houses a Battle Museum with rare war instruments and reproductions of Maharaja Ranjit Singh's personal sword, as well as the Zamzama, the world's largest cannon at the time.
Pagdi Museum, which houses an impressive collection of turbans from all around Punjab.
The Sikh Art Museum has a large collection of paintings showing Punjabi soldiers and saints.
The Haat Bazaar is a bustling market where you can buy souvenirs and handicrafts.
ZaikaGali is a fort-based eatery that serves mouthwatering street food including golgappe, tikki, chaat, and more.
AmbarsariZaikaDhaba is a dhaba-style restaurant that serves traditional Punjabi cuisine.
