⑥ More information on the locations I've visited in this video:

▶ Gorna Oryahovitsa (from Wikipedia)
Gorna Oryahovitsa (Горна Оряховица) is a town in northern Bulgaria, situated in Veliko Tarnovo Province, 10 km (6 mi) from Veliko Tarnovo. It is the administrative centre of the homonymous Gorna Oryahovitsa Municipality. According to the 2021 Census, the town has a population of 27,317 inhabitants.
The nearby village of Arbanasi is an architectural reserve with many historical monuments, such as medieval churches and examples of the Bulgarian National Revival architecture.
The first settlement in the area dates back to the second half of the 5th millennium BC (Middle Neolithic Age). There are traces of a later Thracian settlement between the Kamaka (The Stone) Hill and the Arbanasi Plateau. Its inhabitants were from the tribe of Krobizi. They erected the Kamaka Fortress that existed from the 5th century BC to the 1st century BC, when the Romans built up their own fortified settlement over its ruins. It gradually acquired economic power mainly through cultivating grapes and producing wine. The life of that settlement continued up to the coming of the Slavs (6th–7th century). There is no substantial evidence of settled life between the 7th and the 12th century.
During the Bulgarian National Revival, Gorna Oryahovitsa gradually turned into an economically strong settlement. Crafts prospered and trade was among the most active in Northern Bulgaria. Every Friday there was a big market for cattle, agricultural production, timber, and charcoal. As early as 1822, a monastery school was opened here and in 1827 a private school that became public in 1835 began functioning. In 1850, the first girls' school opened gates and in 1859 the first intermediate high school was founded. A chitalishte (library and community centre) was opened in 1869. Gorna Oryahovitsa was proclaimed a town in 1870, when it numbered 4,700 inhabitants and had 1,200 houses and 5 churches.
After the Liberation, the town developed as a significant transport (predominantly railway) centre as it is nowadays. Its proximity with the old metropolitan town of Veliko Tarnovo, tourist centre Arbanasi, the monasteries around and a great number of other sites of interest makes it a known tourist destination.
Gorna Oryahovitsa is a major railway junction in northern Bulgaria. In the town is one of the six international airports in Bulgaria—Gorna Oryahovitsa Airport, with flight to or from Sofia taking about 30 minutes. It is 12 kilometers away situated from the old capital of Bulgaria - Veliko Tarnovo. The Gorna Oryahovitsa airport is licensed to operate in services such as baggage handling, passenger handling, administration and supervision, cargo and mail handling, ramp handling, aircraft and fuel handling.
The population of the town took part in the struggle for national liberation. Vasil Levski organised a revolutionary committee in Gorna Oryahovitsa during the first half of 1869 and later visited the town two more times.

????????Little Vienna of Bulgaria, Ruse on the Danube River a walking tour in 4K

Welcome to my walking tour of the center of Ruse, Bulgaria - a city steeped in history and culture. Ruse is located in the northeastern part of Bulgaria, on the banks of the Danube River, and is the fifth largest city in the country.

In this video, we'll explore the heart of Ruse, taking in the sights and sounds of this charming and historic place. Our journey begins at the main square, where we're greeted by a stunning fountain and an impressive statue of Aleko Konstantinov, one of Bulgaria's most famous writers.

As we wander through the city's bustling streets, we'll encounter many notable landmarks, including the Municipal Building, the Catholic Church, and the Bulgarian National Bank. Ruse is famous for its beautifully restored 19th-century architecture, which gives the city a unique and charming character.

We'll also visit the lively market, where locals and tourists alike can sample the freshest produce and delicious Bulgarian cuisine. Throughout our journey, we'll meet friendly locals and soak up the unique atmosphere of this fascinating city.

Ruse has a rich and fascinating history. The city has been inhabited since ancient times, and was an important center of trade and commerce during the Ottoman Empire. In the 19th century, Ruse became a hub for cultural and intellectual activity, and was known as the Little Vienna of Bulgaria.

Today, Ruse is a thriving city with a vibrant cultural scene. The city hosts a number of festivals and events throughout the year, including the Ruse Jazz Festival and the Bulgarian National Exhibition of Photography.

So come along with me on this virtual tour of the center of Ruse, Bulgaria. Whether you're a first-time visitor or a seasoned traveler, you're sure to be enchanted by this charming and historic city. Plan your trip to Ruse today and experience the beauty and culture of this unique destination.

Ruse is the fifth largest city in Bulgaria, located in the northeastern part of the country on the right bank of the Danube river, opposite the Romanian city of Giurgiu. The city is known for its 19th- and 20th-century Neo-Baroque and Neo-Rococo architecture, which attracts many tourists. It is often called the Little Vienna due to its impressive architecture. The Ruse-Giurgiu Friendship Bridge, until 14 June 2013 the only one in the shared Bulgarian-Romanian section of the Danube, crosses the river here.

Thanks to its location and its railway and road bridge over the Danube, it is the most significant Bulgarian river port, serving an important part of the international trade of the country. The city's port plays a vital role in Bulgaria's trade with Romania, Serbia, and Ukraine.

Ruse has a continental climate (Köppen climate classification Dfa) with very hot summers and relatively cold winters. Owing to its position on the Danubian Plain, the city's winters can get windy. Winter temperatures often dip below 0 °C (32 °F), sometimes even to −20 °C (−4 °F). On the other hand, in summer, the average temperature is 25 °C (77 °F). Temperatures frequently reach 35 to 40 °C (95 to 104 °F) in mid-summer in the city center and stay as low as 18 to 20 °C (64 to 68 °F) during the nights.

Ruse is also a city with a rich history. Its roots can be traced back to the Roman era, where it was known as Sexaginta Prista, meaning the town of sixty ships. During the Ottoman Empire, the city became an important cultural and economic center due to its location on the Danube River. It was a hub for trade between Europe and the Middle East, and many wealthy merchants settled in the city, leaving behind impressive architectural monuments. Today, Ruse is a modern city that still celebrates its rich history and heritage.

Notable people from Ruse include the Nobel laureate in Literature Elias Canetti and the writer Michael Arlen. Additionally, Ruse is home to several museums, including the City Art Gallery, the Natural History Museum, and the Historical Museum. Visitors can explore the city's rich history and culture by visiting these museums and walking around the city's impressive landmarks.

Overall, Ruse is a city with a lot to offer. Its impressive architecture, rich history, and vibrant cultural scene make it a must-visit destination in Bulgaria. Whether you're interested in exploring the city's museums or simply strolling along the Danube river, Ruse is a city that is sure to leave a lasting impression.

Bulgarian Railways. Ruse Central Station and Gorna Oryahovitsa Station and Trains.

I know it's not in the UK but still interesting for Railway Enthusiasts.
Ruse/Rousse station is a gem...beautiful design from 1955. We travelled the route...the train more or less stops not only at the tiny stations but at the end of village streets and crossroads etc. Very enjoyable but slow.

Bulgaria To Romania By Train | Ruse to Bucharest ????????→???????? | Balkans Travel

In this video I take the train from Ruse, Bulgaria over the Danube River to Bucharest, Romania.

Included in the video are journey time, ticket price, crossing the Bulgarian/Romanian border (which happens to be the Danube river) and arriving in Bucharest's main train station Gara De Nord (Bucharest North Railway Station).

After spending a couple of days in Varna I learned this is the best way. The other option is to take a bus from Ruse bus station which is right next to the train station. Unfortunately for me I'd just missed the daily bus by a few minutes.

Passport control was as simple as could be. Getting on the train fron Ruse was the first check by the Bulgarian authorities. Once crossing the Danube the Romanian authorities came on board and took our passports. They gave them back after 15 minutes and we were on our way to Bucharest.

To support please SUBSCRIBE, COMMENT or LIKE the video (you could do all!) as it really helps with the algorithm.

Romania is my 2nd country as I travel through the Balkans.

Thanks for watching.

Panagyurishte - city of swallows

Panagyurishte - city of swallows. Panagyurishte is primarily known for being the center of the April Uprising against the Ottoman rule in Bulgaria in 1876. It was capital of the Fourth Revolutionary District which was the main centre of the rebellion. The uprising was bloodily suppressed after 10 days of declared freedom, and the town was burnt down and almost completely destroyed by the Ottoman Turks. Lady Strangford arrived from Britain later that year with relief for the people of Bulgaria following the massacres that followed the April Uprising. She built a hospital at Batak and eventually other hospitals were built at Radilovo, Panagiurishte, Karlovo, Petrich and here at Perushtitsa.

LAND BORDER SCAM IN SOUTH EAST EUROPE - Driving the world #Overland in a Toyota Landcruiser 4x4

We left Greece and decided to make a detour on the route initially planned, but at the land border crossing we have to deal with some smart-ass brokers selling temporary insurance that want to scam us...

The options were three: North Macedonia, Bulgaria and Turkey and in this video we show you what are the first steps to take when entering a new country with your vehicle or camper; you will see how we organize ourselves, what kind of tolls are paid in another country and how to exchange money at a currency exchange in a foreign country. We will taste some typical products and we will also visit a tavern where they don't speak a word of English.

We wild camp in some very remote spots and although nothing can beat our Toyota land cruiser camper 4x4 we decide to stop for a night in a campground to see what kind of facilities and services campsites have abroad and specifically in this southeastern European country.

We also visit one of the biggest , most famous and most beautiful orthodox monastery in the world.
