Godhra is a municipality in Panchmahal district in Indian state of Gujarat. It is the administrative headquarters of the Panchmahal district. Originally the name came from gou which means cow and dhara- which have two meanings depending on how you pronounce the word: 'dharaa' means a feminine thing or person that holds something and it usually meansland, and the other pronunciation is 'dhaaraa' in which means flow. However, the second pronunciation is not popular nor is usually associated with this word.[citation needed] Hence, 'Godhra or Godharaa' means the Land of the Cow.Godhra is widely known in India and internationally for being the starting point of the 2002 Gujarat riots. Statewide religious riots between Hindus and Muslims began after the Godhra train burning incident near the Godhra railway station on 27 February 2002, where about 59 train passengers were burnt alive.[1] It was in Godhra that Vallabhbhai Patel first met Gandhi in 1917 and was subsequently drawn into the Indian freedom struggle.

Somnath Temple is the name of a very ancient and historical Shiva temple, located in the western part of India, located in the state of Gujarat, located in South Asia. It is one of the selected and important temples of Indian history and Hindus. The reconstruction of the present building was started by the Iron Man Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel after the independence of India and on 1st December 1955, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the President of India dedicated it to the nation.Somnath Temple is a world famous religious and tourist destination. A one-hour sound and light show runs in the temple premises from 7.30 to 8.30 pm, in which the history of Somnath temple is beautifully illustrated. According to folklore, it is here that Shri Krishna left his body. Due to this the importance of this area increased even more.

The work of arrangement and operation of Somnathji's temple is under Somnath Trust. The government has made arrangements for income by giving land, gardens and gardens to the trust.

Jambughoda Wildlife Sanctuary, Full of forests of teak and mahuda trees, bamboo, and other lush vegetation, Jambughoda is home to large populations of many kinds of wildlife. The leopard at the top of the food chain is the primary predator, nilgai (blue bull, the largest antelope in Asia), jackal, hyena, barking deer, sloth bear, and chausingha(four-horned antelope).
There are many places to hike through the forests in the sanctuary and it is a marvelous camping site. For those without the experience to camp, a forest rest house is available beside the Kada reservoir, one of two reservoirs in the sanctuary.

The town has low rise low cost construction and has largely a lower to middle class population., with single storey ground floor houses.

Godhra is actually a well laid-out small town, with ample space, wide roads, a low traffic flow, a major train junction and highways, as well as good electricity and water resources, as well as an industrial corridor with reasonable manufacturing infrastructure.

Godhra is a municipality in Panchmahal district in Indian state of Gujarat. It is the administrative headquarters of the Panchmahal district. Originally the name came from gou which means cow and dhara- which have two meanings depending on how you pronounce the word: 'dharaa' means a feminine thing or person that holds something and it usually meansland, and the other pronunciation is 'dhaaraa' in which means flow. However, the second pronunciation is not popular nor is usually associated with this word. Hence, 'Godhra or Godharaa' means the Land of the Cow.

Godhra is widely known in India and internationally for being the starting point of the 2002 Gujarat riots. Statewide religious riots between Hindus and Muslims began after the Godhra train burning incident near the Godhra railway station on 27 February 2002, where about 59 Hindu train passengers were burnt alive. It was in Godhra that Vallabhbhai Patel first met Gandhi in 1917 and was subsequently drawn into the Indian freedom struggle.

Godhra is a road and rail junction and a commercial centre for timber and agricultural produce. Industries include oilseed pressing, flour milling, and glass manufacture. - Wikipedia
