In viaggio a Gioia del Colle, Puglia. 2/2. Castello, museo e teatro | BUON VENTO
Questa è la seconda parte del mio viaggio alla scoperta di Gioia del Colle, capitale pugliese della mozzarella e patria del vino Primitivo DOC.
Vado a scoprire il magnifico Castello Normanno Svevo dove, accolta dall'atmosfera medievale ricreata da bravissimi attori del posto, m'immergo tra le storie e le leggende dell'imperatore Federico II.
La città mi riserva anche una briosa visita al Museo della Civiltà Contadina, unico al mondo per la straordinaria ricchezza di reperti, oggetti e arnesi del monoaurale pugliese.
Nel fermento artistico e musicale che caratterizza la città, faccio tappa al Teatro Rossini dove mi aspetta un inedito ensamble di famosi musicisti gioiesi e, tra loro, anche Mario Rosini che, con la sua magnifica voce, arrivò secondo al Festival di Sanremo nel 2004.

La campagna di Gioia del Colle è terra di colline pietrose fatte di boschi, praterie e pascoli, dove numerose aziende agricole hanno trovato un contesto fertile per gli allevamenti, da cui si ottiene il latte fresco distribuito ai laboratori caseari locali.
Nella capitale della mozzarella, fra le tappe consigliate per gustare il sapore intenso dei latticini artigianali, c’è il Caseificio Curci, guidato da Teresa Milano, imprenditrice impegnata nella ricerca e nella produzione di specialità innovative che reinterpretano i prodotti caseari con ingredienti mediterranei.

The Gioia del Colle countryside is a land of rocky hills filled with woods, meadows and pastures where many farms have found a fertile environment for their livestock from which fresh milk is distributed to the local dairy laboratories.
In the mozzarella capital, among other recommended stops where you can enjoy the intense flavor of artisanal dairy products, is Curci Cheese factory, led by Teresa Milano, an entrepreneur engaged in the research and manufacture of innovative specialty products that reinterpret Mediterranean dairy ingredients.

Primitivo is a wine from the heart of Puglia which dates back to the XVIIIth Century.
It has become one of the most famous apulian wine in the world.

The movie is actually recorded in the
neighboring Matera, but the bridge scene is recorded here.
Most people only make it to Matera, or in the best case scenario to Altamura and skip Gravina, which is a huge mistake if you're asking me...
Gravina in Puglia is built on the edge of a ravine, and like Matera, it has an ancient quarter with dwellings and churches hewn out of the rocky hillside. Due to its strategic location on the Via Appia (the ancient Roman road linking Rome with Brindisi) and its fertile lands, Gravina in Puglia prospered.
The town's most famous attraction is its bridge. It was built in the 17th century, it was later destroyed by an earthquake in 1722, and restored afterwards and repurposed as an aqueduct by the Orsini's, a powerful family from Rome.
On one side of the bridge is Gravina's adorable center, while on the other side of the bridge lies the ancient quarter (nowadays, the Botromagno Archeological Park), with its age-old monuments, cave dwellings and churches carved out from the rock. This is the place where you get the best views over the ravine and entire Gravina including its breathtaking Cathedral on the very edge…
Tip: DO NOT listen to Google maps and park outside the old town then walk. We listened to the navigation and I'II show you later in my stories where it took us.
Another tip: We found out later on, that Gravina isn't quite the safest place to be so if possible, go in groups and don't go with your own car.
Specially not with a rental car with Italian plates!

In questa tenuta a conduzione familiare, si entra in un mondo incantato che ha il sapore autentico del contatto diretto con la natura.
La cucina casereccia, affidata alle mani della padrona di casa Maria Cuscito, offre le antiche ricette contadine preparate con i prodotti del grande orto adiacente.
L'agriturismo offre un giardino mediterraneo, un orto botanico e un grazioso parco giochi con una divertentissima teleferica che regala l’ebbrezza di volare sospesi su un cavo tra gli ulivi secolari.
L’avventura prosegue nella fattoria, tra asinelli, pony, galline e faraone, per raggiungere il grande bosco privato che circonda il parco.
Si può anche soggiornare nel B&B con camere spaziose, oppure concedersi pernotti fiabeschi nel trullo, avvolti da un fatato silenzio.

I'll take you on a journey to the agritourism REGNO DI MARZAGAGLIA (Kingdom of Marzagaglia), in Gioia del Colle countryside, about 6 miles from the city in the direction of Castellaneta.
From this family-run estate, you enter a magical world where you can be directly in contact with nature.
In the hands of the owner, Maria Cuscito, you can taste her home-cooked, traditional recipes prepared with the produce of the nearby vegetable garden.
You can take long, relaxing walks among the various areas of our immense park.
After going through the Mediterranean garden, you can follow the botanical trail among Mediterranean plants and bushes.
With the scents of nature in the air, you arrive in a pleasant playground with swings, slides and a ropeway where you can enjoy the thrill of flying suspended on a cable between ancient olive trees.
The adventure continues through the farm, among donkeys, ponies, chickens and guinea fowl, all the way to the large, private, wood that surrounds the park.
And if you don't want to leave this natural “kingdom”, you can stay in the B&B with large bedrooms, or indulge in a fairytale stay in the trullo, surrounded by an enchanted silence.
