2:16 The Gasometers in Vienna are four former gas tanks, each of 90,000 m³ storage capacity, built as part of the Vienna municipal gas works Gaswerk Simmering in 1896–1899. They are located in the 11th district, Simmering. They were used from 1899 to 1984 as gas storage tanks. Coal gas was dry-distilled from coal and was stored in these containers before it was distributed into the city gas network. The town gas was originally used only by the street lamps, but in 1910, its use for cooking and heating in private homes was introduced. After the changeover from town gas to natural gas between 1969 and 1978, they were no longer used and were shut down. Only the brick exterior front walls were preserved. The structures have found new residential and commercial use in modern times.

Die Gasometer waren ein Teil des Gaswerk Simmering, um Versorgungsschwankungen im Wiener Gasnetz auszugleichen. Sie waren technisch als Niederdruckspeicher für das aus Kohle gewonnene Stadtgas ausgeführt. Das Gaswerk Simmering war neben dem Gaswerk Leopoldau eines von zwei städtischen Gaswerken um die Jahrhundertwende. Ursprünglich waren es 6 Gasbehälter. Einer davon war ein sogenannter Schrauben-Gasbehälter.
Die feierliche Eröffnung des Gaswerks samt Weihe aller Objekte durch Weihbischof Johann Baptist Schneider fand am 31. Oktober 1899 statt, um Mitternacht dieses Tages nahm das Werk seinen Betrieb auf und beleuchtete die Laternen auf der Ringstraße erstmals mittels Gas.
Die Gebäude gelten schon seit jeher als Wahrzeichen des 11. Wiener Gemeindebezirks Simmering, da sie aufgrund ihrer Größe bereits von Weitem zu sehen sind. Das Gaswerk Simmering mit den Gasometern war von 1899 bis 1975 in Betrieb. Seit der Revitalisierung zählen auch Touristen aus allen Teilen der Welt und Architekturexperten zu den Besuchern der Gasometer.

Das Museum wurde 1918 eröffnet. Es zeigt Exponate und Modelle aus der Geschichte der Technik unter besonderer Berücksichtigung des österreichischen Anteils an der technologischen Entwicklung. Es verfügt über zahlreiche, zum Teil recht große historische Demonstrationsmodelle, etwa aus dem Bereich der Eisenbahn, des Schiffbaus, der Luftfahrt und der Industrie. Herausragend sind dabei die funktionsfähigen Dampfmaschinen. Weiters ist im TMW eine der größten Sammlungen historischer Musikinstrumente in Österreich untergebracht. Dem Museum angegliedert ist die Österreichische Mediathek.

Mariahilf is the 6th municipal district of Vienna, Austria (German: 6. Bezirk). It is near the center of Vienna and was established as a district in 1850. Mariahilf is a heavily populated urban area with many residential buildings.It has a population of 31,621 (as of 2016-01-01) within an area of 1.48 square kilometres.
The Mariahilfer Strasse is one of the longest streets in Vienna and a must for shopping tourists as well as for Viennese. Here you will find shops, selected pubs and restaurants, directions and parking options as well as tips for your cultural entertainment around Vienna's most popular shopping street.
Shopping:
The heart of this shopping mile is the 1.8 km long Inner Mariahilfer Strasse between the Museumsquartier and Westbahnhof, also known as Mahü for short, and forms the border between Vienna's 6th and 7th districts. Äußere Mariahilfer Strasse leads across the Gurtel into the 15th district.
Since August 2015, the Mahü has now become a pedestrian zone, except for two so-called meeting zones where cars and bicycles are allowed to drive at a slower pace. There are exceptions for delivery vans and the 13A bus. The city's own designed seating furniture invites you to linger and the water tables that have been set up bring a refreshing change to the street architecture, especially on warm summer days.
Approach and park on Mariahilferstraße:
Vienna's short-term parking zone applies all around Mariahilferstraße, so don't forget your parking tickets. The parking sticker for residents of the 6th or 7th district applies to both sides of the street along the meeting zone.
In addition, there are several parking garages and underground garages in the immediate vicinity, so that the shopping tour should not fail due to the lack of parking spaces. Many car parks also offer cultural parking related to the opera houses, theatres, cinemas, museums and other cultural institutions.

Nur 6 Wochen nach dem Ende des CORONA Lockdowns I fand das Grill- & Genussfestival Wien / Vienna BBQ Days 2020 statt.
Im Rahmen der Veranstaltung gab es zwei Wettbewerbe der Kansas City Barbecue Society, einen Steak und Burger Wettbewerb der Steak Cookoff Society, den Genussmarkt in der Halle, das Mitmachgrillen der Tageszeitung HEUTE , zahlreiche Speisenanbieter mit BBQ Grillspeisen, die Freiluftbühne mit DJ und sogar einen Überaschungsbesuch des Donauinselfestbusses.
Strengste Sicherheitsbestimmungen wie ein Mindestabstand von 2 Metern zwischen den einzelnen Sitzgelegenheiten, freiwilliger Registrierung aller Besucher, Desinfektionsständer sorgten für höchstmögliche Sicherheit aller Besucher und Teilnehmer. Während und nach der Veranstaltung kam es zu keinem CORONA Verdachtsfall und auch anschliessend gab es keinerlei Hinweise auf mögliche Ansteckungen.
Only 6 Weeks after the end of the first Lockdown in Austria the Vienna BBQ 2020 days took place with very strict regulations for safety and disease prevention e.g. et least 2m (6ft) distance between each table in and outdoor.

Begleitet mich in Streifzug Donaustadt durch die unterschiedlichen Bezirksteile unseres schönen 22. Wiener Gemeindebezirkes. In dieser Episode spazieren wir durch den Wiener Teil des Nationalparks Donau-Auen, die Lobau. Ein Juwel der Natur und Teil der Grünen Lunge Wiens.
Die Lobau ist ein nördlich der Donau und großteils innerhalb, teilweise aber auch östlich Wiens gelegener Teil des Auengebietes der Donau, das sich am linken Donauufer zwischen Wien und der Mündung der March (Grenze zur Slowakei) erstreckt. Die Lobau ist rund 22 Quadratkilometer groß und wird von der Magistratsabteilung 49 – Forstamt und Landwirtschaftsbetrieb der Stadt Wien verwaltet und betreut.
Der Teil innerhalb Wiens gehört verwaltungstechnisch dem 22. Gemeindebezirk Donaustadt an, grundbuchmäßig besteht er aus den Katastralgemeinden Landjägermeisteramt und Kaiserebersdorf Herrschaft (bis auf den äußersten nordwestlichen Rand, der zu Aspern gehört).
