Beautiful Culemborg in the Netherlands !
Culemborg, formerly also spelled Kuilenburg or Kuylenburgh, received city rights in 1318. For a long time, Culemborg was independent from any counties or duchies in the Netherlands. The city had gained the right of toll collection and the right of asylum: it was a so-called 'Vrijstad' (free city). In practice, this meant that people who had fled to Culemborg from other cities (for example due to bankruptcy) could evade their creditors in Culemborg. The creditors would not be allowed entry into the city. This did not mean that criminals could escape justice in Culemborg: the city had its own justice system which could sentence criminals. In Amsterdam, the phrase 'Naar Culemborg gaan' (Going to Culemborg) became synonymous with going bankrupt.
In Joan Blaeu's map of 1649, Culemborg remains entirely enclosed by walls behind its city moat-like encircling canals. The moated castle stands outside the city walls. Houses present a united front along streets and the two canals that cut the city in three sections, but they all face gardens behind, and market gardens are plentiful within the city walls.
In the beginning of the 18th century, Culemborg effectively lost its independence as it was incorporated into the Nijmegen Quarter, although it regained some sovereign rights. Later, it was given to stadholder Willem IV. To this day, the Dutch king Willem-Alexander remains count of Culemborg. In 1795, the city was occupied by French forces, who left the castle in such a despicable state it was demolished after the French had left. A few years later it was completely incorporated in the Bataafse Republiek, and losing its sovereign rights.
In 1868, a railway bridge was built over the river Lek which was the longest bridge in Europe for a few years. Just upstream of it is a reaction ferry[5]
In 1995, Culemborg was one of the cities which was temporarily evacuated because of the risk of flooding.
Between 1994 and 2009 the city of Culemborg developed the innovative ecological neighbourhood EVA Lanxmeer. Close collaboration with inhabitants and experimental sustainable design has made the neighbourhood an international best practice. (Wikipedia)

Netherlands and Belgium 2023 - Day 12 Veldhoven to Geldermalsen
Highlights from the twelfth day of our Brompton tour - Veldhoven to S'Hertogenbosch to hosts in Geldermalsen and dinner in nearby Buren. Long day - we accidentally recorded over our visit to the Hovenring :(

Langs de Linge tussen Asperen en Geldermalsen
Een fraaie fietstocht - 45 km - over de oostelijke lus van de langste Nederlandse rivier de Linge. Start in Asperen om via Leerdam over de noordelijke rivieroever naar Geldermalsen te gaan om daar via de zuidelijke rivieroever terug te gaan naar Asperen. Een fietstocht over goed begaanbare - en rustige wegen door leuke dorpjes met fraaie uitzichten over de rivier, tussen (fruit)boomgaarden door en voldoende rustpunten om van de omgeving te genieten. Een van de mooiste dorpen is Acquoy met haar scheve toren, ook wel de Betuwse toren van Pisa genoemd, met daar onder het graf van mevrouw Pisa. De totale Lingeroute is ruim 70 km en loopt van Gorinchem naar Geldermalsen vica versa. Zie voor de westelijke route mijn videomontage
A beautiful bike ride - 45 km - over the eastern loop of the longest Dutch river Linge. Start in Asperen to go via Leerdam over the northern riverbank to Geldermalsen and then return to Asperen via the southern riverbank. A bike ride on well-maintained and quiet roads through nice villages with beautiful views over the river, between (fruit) orchards and plenty of rest points to enjoy the area. One of the most beautiful villages is Acquoy with its leaning tower, also called the Betuwe tower of Pisa, with the tomb of Mrs. Pisa below. The total Lingeroute is more than 70 km and runs from Gorinchem to Geldermalsen and vice versa. For the western route, see my video montage
Eine schöne Radtour - 45 km - über die Ostschleife des längsten niederländischen Flusses Linge. Start in Asperen, um über Leerdam über das nördliche Flussufer nach Geldermalsen zu fahren und dann über das südliche Flussufer nach Asperen zurückzukehren. Eine Radtour auf gut ausgebauten und ruhigen Straßen durch schöne Dörfer mit schöner Aussicht über den Fluss, zwischen Obstgärten und vielen Rastplätzen, um die Gegend zu genießen. Eines der schönsten Dörfer ist Acquoy mit seinem schiefen Turm, auch Betuweturm von Pisa genannt, mit dem darunter liegenden Grab von Frau Pisa. Une belle balade à vélo - 45 km - sur la boucle orientale du plus long fleuve néerlandais Linge. Commencez à Asperen pour passer par Leerdam sur la rive nord jusqu'à Geldermalsen, puis retournez à Asperen via la rive sud. Une balade à vélo sur des routes bien entretenues et calmes à travers de beaux villages avec de belles vues sur la rivière, entre des vergers (fruitiers) et de nombreux points de repos pour profiter de la région. L'un des plus beaux villages est Acquoy avec sa tour penchée, également appelée tour Betuwe de Pise, avec le tombeau de Mme Pise en dessous. Beesd is a town in the Dutch province of Gelderland. It is a part of the municipality of Geldermalsen, and lies about 16 km west of Tiel. It is situated near the river Linge and has a railway station on the railway from Dordrecht to Geldermalsen.
In 2001, the town of Beesd had 3141 inhabitants. The built-up area of the town was 0.83 km², and contained 1185 residences. The statistical area Beesd, which also can include the peripheral parts of the village, as well as the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 3650. There is a restored windmill in the town, De Vrijheid.
Until 1978, Beesd was a separate municipality.

Haarlem, Netherlands - bascule bridge opening
Haarlem (formerly known as Harlem in the English language) is a city and municipality in the Netherlands. It is the capital of the province of North Holland and is situated at the northern edge of the Randstad, one of the most populated metropolitan areas in Europe. The population of Haarlem was 153,123 at the end of 2012.
Haarlem was granted city status or stadsrechten in 1245, although the first city walls were not built until 1270. The modern city encompasses the former municipality of Schoten as well as parts that previously belonged to Bloemendaal and Heemstede. Apart from the city, the municipality of Haarlem also includes the western part of the village of Spaarndam. Newer sections of Spaarndam lie within the neighbouring municipality of Haarlemmerliede en Spaarnwoude.

Amsterdam has always been famous for its Red Light district and cafes selling funny 'cigarettes', but there is a lot more to the city than that. The city avoided bombing in World War Two and as a result there are many well preserved buildings in the old part of the city dating from the 17th century. Bicycling is a way of life here and the flat landscape makes this a great way to see the city. Add to this the beautiful canals and boulevards and Amsterdam becomes a picturesque city with a rich history that will be enjoyed by all ages.
Driving around Tricht and Geldermalsen on a perfect sunny afternoon
Since it is the last day before my trip back to Malaysia and the weather has been so perfect for the past week, I've decided to video record the journey to Albert Heijn (Groceries Store) where you will get a little tour of how Tricht and Geldermalsen looks like. This is where the head quarters of A.Hak is located, where I have been staying on and off for the past few months. Will be back here again in 3 weeks anyway..
In the video, I did make some commentaries while recording but decided to mute and speed it up 3X instead coz it's such a boring video! and I am so lazy to even figure out the editing part. I do it just for the fun of it after figuring out that I could secure my phone in between the headrest of the passenger seat. Background music is some dutch music which is probably a hit right now coz I hear it alot on the radio so I thought it would give it a dutch feel to it.. lol.. whatever.. Enjoy! :p

Laatste uitstapje in de mooie Februari week met zon overgoten in Buren Gelderland .
Mooi rustig en volledig gerestaureerd , het is heel lang geleden dat ik daar geweest ben , ik ben alleen in het stadje zelf geweest voor het mooie plantsoen gaan we in de zomer als alles weer groen en fris is nog een keertje terug , er zullen dan nog meer foto's volgen want ik heb nog niet alles gezien .
Hier is meer van bolwerk en ommuring te zien maar niet toegankelijk voor publiek , ik heb tenminste geen toegang kunnen vinden .
Met beter weer en een heerlijk zonnetje zal ik nog meer van deze mooie plaatsen bezoeken , ik ben een beetje aangestoken dit jaar van oude geveltjes , cultuur en een beetje geschiedenis
Bedankt voor het bezoek , het bekijken en hopelijk het genieten van de video .

Last trip in the beautiful February week with sun drenched in Buren Gelderland.
Nice quiet and completely restored, it is a long time ago that I have been there, I am only in the town itself for the beautiful park we go in the summer when everything is green and fresh , one more time back, there will still be more pictures to follow because I have not seen everything.
Here you can see more of the stronghold and the wall but not accessible to the public, at least I have no access found to it.
With better weather and a lovely sun, I will visit more of these beautiful places, I'm kind of lit this year of old facades, culture and a bit of history

De historische binnenstad ligt verscholen tussen machtige rivieren. Het mooiste begin van een ontdekkingstocht is het Groothoofd, waar de Oude Maas, Noord en Merwede samenvloeien. De stad heeft in Holland lang een belangrijke rol gespeeld op het gebied van handel, politiek en religie. In de ruim 1000 monumenten die Dordrecht telt, is het rijke verleden goed terug te vinden, vooral in het historisch havengebied.
