KANPUR: To accommodate the excess water being released from Narora dam and Haridwar, over 1.07 lakh cusecs of water was released from the barrage into the downstream of Ganga on Wednesday. In the past few days, more water is being released into the Ganga downstream. On Tuesday, 89,218 cusecs of water was released.
The regular release of water from the barrage into the downstream would add to the water level in the low-lying areas in Allahabad and Varanasi. However, there is no immediate threat of flood in the low-lying areas in the industrial city though water level has certainly increased at the city ghats. The released water has given a fresh lease of life to the ghats which otherwise wore a deserted look.
