Italy Italian: Italia, officially the Italian Republic Italian: Repubblica Italiana is a country consisting of a peninsula delimited by the Alps and several islands surrounding it, whose territory largely coincides with the homonymous geographical region. Italy is located in the centre of the Mediterranean Sea, in Southern Europe; it is also considered part of Western Europe. A unitary parliamentary republic with Rome as its capital and largest city, the country covers a total area of 301,230 km2 (116,310 sq mi) and shares land borders with France, Switzerland, Austria, Slovenia, as well as the enclaved microstates of Vatican City and San Marino. Italy has a territorial exclave in Switzerland (Campione) and a maritime exclave in Tunisian waters (Lampedusa). With around 60 million inhabitants, Italy is the third-most populous member state of the European Union.
Due to its central geographic location in Southern Europe and the Mediterranean, Italy has historically been home to myriad peoples and cultures. In addition to the various ancient peoples dispersed throughout what is now modern-day Italy, the most predominant being the Indo-European Italic peoples who gave the peninsula its name, beginning from the classical era, Phoenicians and Carthaginians founded colonies mostly in insular Italy, Greeks established settlements in the so-called Magna Graecia of Southern Italy, while Etruscans and Celts inhabited central and northern Italy respectively. An Italic tribe known as the Latins formed the Roman Kingdom in the 8th century BC, which eventually became a republic with a government of the Senate and the People. The Roman Republic initially conquered and assimilated its neighbours on the Italian peninsula, eventually expanding and conquering parts of Europe, North Africa and Asia. By the first century BC, the Roman Empire emerged as the dominant power in the Mediterranean Basin and became a leading cultural, political and religious centre, inaugurating the Pax Romana, a period of more than 200 years during which Italy's law, technology, economy, art, and literature developed.
During the Early Middle Ages, Italy endured the fall of the Western Roman Empire and the Barbarian Invasions, but by the 11th century numerous rival city-states and maritime republics, mainly in the northern and central regions of Italy, became prosperous through trade, commerce, and banking, laying the groundwork for modern capitalism] These mostly independent statelets served as Europe's main trading hubs with Asia and the Near East, often enjoying a greater degree of democracy than the larger feudal monarchies that were consolidating throughout Europe; however, part of central Italy was under the control of the theocratic Papal States, while Southern Italy remained largely feudal until the 19th century, partially as a result of a succession of Byzantine, Arab, Norman, Angevin, Aragonese, and other foreign conquests of the region. The Renaissance began in Italy and spread to the rest of Europe, bringing a renewed interest in humanism, science, exploration, and art. Italian culture flourished, producing famous scholars, artists, and polymaths. During the Middle Ages, Italian explorers discovered new routes to the Far East and the New World, helping to usher in the European Age of Discovery. Nevertheless, Italy's commercial and political power significantly waned with the opening of trade routes that bypassed the Mediterranean. Centuries of foreign meddling and conquest, and the rivalry and infighting between the Italian city-states, such as the Italian Wars of the 15th and 16th centuries, left Italy politically fragmented, and it was further conquered and divided among multiple foreign European powers over the centuries.
By the mid-19th century, rising Italian nationalism and calls for independence from foreign control led to a period of revolutionary political upheaval. After centuries of foreign domination and political division, Italy was almost entirely unified in 1861 following a war of independence, establishing the Kingdom of Italy. From the late 19th century to the early 20th century, Italy rapidly industrialised, mainly in the north, and acquired a colonial empire,[while the south remained largely impoverished and excluded from industrialisation, fuelling a large and influential diaspora. Despite being one of the victorious allied powers in World War I, Italy entered a period of economic crisis and social turmoil, leading to the rise of the Italian fascist dictatorship in 1922. Participation in World War II on the Axis side ended in military defeat, economic destruction, and civil war. Following the rise of the Italian Resistance and the liberation of Italy, the country abolished its monarchy, established a democratic Republic, enjoyed a prolonged economic boom, and became a highly developed country.

MY FAV CITY IN ITALY- Brescia travel diary
Over the last two days Brescia has quickly become my favourite city in Italy so far. Not only is it surrounded mountains and only 15 minutes from Lake Iseo (its beautiful) BUT I GOT TO GO TO PRIMARK...TWICE! Beth and I also (finally) found a smoothie place after strongly considering ordering a blender off amazon so we could make our own. So here is a video fully committed to my love for this beautiful city.

quest'oggi vi porto non troppo lontano da casa, al lago di Garda.
Per la prima volta visito il Vittoriale degli italiani, un parco sorprendente che mi ha davvero stupito, è un posto surreale in cui perdersi accanto le sponde del lago di Garda.
Una reggia costruita nel corso dei primi del 900 che ancora oggi ti sa trasportare nella storia, tra la casa di Gabriele d'annunzio e una vera e propria nave da guerra eretta nei colli lombardi.
Ci vediamo prestissimo con un nuovo video!

After the two months of the infamous lockdown in Italy from February to May, we decided to do this challenge: go hiking every weekend! So exciting!
27/06/2020 - Punta Almana (BS, Italy)
We live in a small town in northern Italy called Gardone Val Trompia in Brescia province, and apparently, 5 to 10 minutes from our home we have this hiking route which brings us to the top of Punta Almana mountain with spectacular panoramas of the Bergamo Alps, Adamello mountain, and other mountains surrounding Val Trompia and the Brescian Prealps, and also the beautiful Lake Iseo!
The route is quite difficult for newbies like us, we spent 5 hours in the total back and forth but the view is worth the effort!

Le cascate Gaina: un’escursione a Monticelli Brusati dove potrete immergervi nella splendida cornice paesaggistica e naturale del percorso denominato “Valle delle Cascate”.
L’inizio dell’itinerario è raggiungibile seguendo la strada che attraversa la contrada di Gaina, la zona abitata situata nella parte più alta del Comune, sul sentiero che conduceva a Polaveno e, da qui, a Gardone Val Trompia.
Lasciata l’automobile si percorre a piedi via Foina, facendo attenzione al traffico, e si supera l’omonima frazione. Si prosegue sulla strada asfaltata fino all’incrocio con via Colombaia dove la strada cambia nome e diventa via Gaina. Imboccata la via si procede fino a raggiungere il centro della frazione Gaina. L’itinerario è già segnalato a partire dai parcheggi con segnavia bianchi e rosa e cartelli con la sigla SC.
L’itinerario presenta 2 varianti una per esperti (B), in alcuni tratti attrezzata con catene e scale metalliche per facilitare il passaggio, e un cammino più facile (A) per chi non si sentisse in grado di affrontare la ferrata.
Un sentiero tranquillo e pieno di verde e blu, si perché l’acqua è la costante in questo percorso, che si snoda nella stretta Val Gaina in cui l’erosione del torrente ha disegnato incantevoli e piacevoli paesaggi: un vero angolo di pace a due passi dalla città. Qui si viene avvolti dal silenzio del bosco e ci si può sentire un tutt’uno con la natura e il rumore dell’acqua che scorre lì vicino emana una sensazione di pace e libertà.
Lago d'Iseo - Sale Marasino - Drone 4K
Sale Marasino è adagiato sulla riva orientale del lago d'Iseo, in un ampio anfiteatro naturale e si trova a circa 200 m s.l.m.
Alle spalle dell'abitato si erge la cima montuosa più alta del lago, Punta Almana, con i suoi 1391 metri di altitudine, che fa parte del territorio di Sale Marasino e segna il confine col comune di Gardone Val Trompia.
Il suo territorio confina a Nord con il comune di Marone, a Sud con il comune di Sulzano, a est con Polaveno e Gardone Val Trompia ed a ovest, via lago, col comune di Monte Isola.
Sale Marasino è formato da due comuni anticamente separati: Sale, in riva al lago, e Marasino, che si trova in collina ed era già abitato in epoca romana. Sale, in epoca romana, era attraversato da un'importante strada romana consolare che metteva in comunicazione Brescia (lat. Brixia) con la Val Camonica (lat. Vallis Camunnorum) costeggiando il lago d'Iseo (lat. Sebinus lacus: da cui il nome della strada) e terminando a Rognum (Rogno).

Percorso con splendida vista sul lago d'Iseo, Monte Isola e Monte Gugliemo.
Il percorso è spesso in cresta o lungo pendi molto ripidi per cui prestare attenzione se non si è molto esperti.
