Tunis is the sprawling capital of Tunisia, a country in North Africa. It sits along Lake Tunis, just inland from the Mediterranean Sea’s Gulf of Tunis. It’s home to a centuries-old medina and the Bardo, an archaeology museum where celebrated Roman mosaics are displayed in a 15th-century palace complex. The parklike ruins of ancient Carthage sit in the city’s northern suburbs.

Life in Tunisia is pretty great! Join me in the latest Tunisia travel VLOG as I head off overlanding to explore Kef Governorate, in the north-west of the country, by the border with Algeria. Today we check out the vista at Mellegue Dam, the Ancient Roman arch at Musti (Mustis) and have a few technical issues at a motorway toll booth! Finally we arrive at Dar Sidi Abdallah, which will be the base from which we explore the governorate in later videos. Don't worry, I will also do a separate video on the beautiful facilities at Dar Sidi Abdallah, which I recommend!

Hotel Tour: Hotel Jugurtha Palace, Gafsa, Tunisia
Today we tour the grand old Hotel Jugurtha Palace in Gafsa, the capital of Gafsa Governorate in southern Tunisia. This place has been here for a long time (I think since the 1960s), and boasts some pretty opulent architecture. The grounds also have incredible views of the mountains, although the pools were drained when I visited as it was winter. This is a great base from which to explore the surrounding area, including hunting down the Lézard Rouge tourist train and heading to Bou-Hedma National Park (both of which have separate videos on this channel!)

Bou Hedma National Park - road trip and safari in Tunisia, North Africa (Bradt Guides)
The Djebel Bou-Hedma Biosphere Reserve and National Park is situated 85 km east of Gafsa along the southern Tunisian mountain ranges that are extensions of the Saharan Atlas. The park is unique to both Tunisia and North Africa as it is home to relicts of the region's pre-Saharan savanna (for instance Acacia raddiana forests). The fauna is characteristic of the Sahara and arid Mediterranean regions including elements which have been destroyed elsewhere in Tunisia. Endangered species in the park include the addax antelope (Addax nasomaculatus), Struthio camelus australis and Gazella dama mhorr. We also managed to track down some ostriches. Safari time!
