Lübeck in 5 minutes ???? Visit the medieval German city Lübeck
World cultural heritage and gateway to the Baltic Sea - that's Lübeck. The city is famous for the Holstentor, the landmark of Lübeck. Lübeck became even more famous for 'Marzipan'. This delicious sweet is produced locally and sold in many cafés and shops.
The old town of Lübeck inspires with its many medieval houses. A walk along the river Trave is very relaxing. You can also take a boat. The Füchtingshof is a little bit hidden, but belongs to the Unesco world cultural heritage.
See and feel the harbour, beach and the sea in Travemünde. It is only a few minutes drive from the centre of Lübeck. Here you can eat a tasty fish sandwich, chill out on the beach and watch the many sailing and cargo boats.

Arriving by train, the first eye catcher you will encounter is the Holsten Gate. A true symbol of the city. It used to be the third gate in line, but during the industrial revolution people needed space, and the gates were demolished. This one only survived because the Lubeck citizens voted it to stay, by a majority of just one vote.
You might notice the towers aren’t really leveled. The water around the old town and the lack of connection underground, made them two towers of Pisa.
The inscription says: harmony inside, peace outside. Remember Lubeck was a rich city, and war would just cost a lot of money.
The entire Old Town is a unesco world Heritage side, since the late 80’s
And if you love this Brick Gothic architecture, St. Mary’s Church is a must visit. It was used as an example for 70 other churches in the Baltic region. So yes, this is a building of high architectural importance.
Walking the streets I was surprised by the contrast within the city. You’ll find busy shopping streets, and lonely alley’s in less than a minute from one another. And keep your eyes open for signs like this. These are the gateways to the smallest streets in Lubeck.
What used to be tiny rooms back in the middle ages, are almost doll like houses today. Some of them over 400 years old.
If you see a gas lamp, the alley is not privately owned and you’re allowed to enter.
The old town is home to 5 large churches. Besides St. Mary’s church, St. Peter’s caught my eye. Go around sunset, and you’ll have a beautiful view over the city.
By far my favorite place in the old town has everything to do with theatre puppets.
The theatre is situated in 5 old merchant houses. Inside you find a complex system of chambers and halls, which really makes you feel lost in puppet world.
There are puppets from all over the globe in here. You’ll find loads of different techniques to play with them. From centuries ago, till very recent times.
It shows very well how big the world of theatre puppets actually is.
You might notice small models of the famous buildings, made out of Marzipan. And you guessed it: Lubeck is famous for it. Especially this shop: Niederegger. This treat, once being affordable by kings only, is to be found in numerous shapes and sizes. And if you get the Niederegger marzipan, it will be made without any sugar. Just
An other spot foodies might have heard of is Schiffergesellschaft. Surrounded by old model ships you feel like traveling in time. It’s a busy place, so make your reservation in time.
This popular spot made me wonder, what’s there off the beaten track?
So I took a little detour to Veg-at-table. A little vegan spot, with some great choices for lunch. They are just closing up in the late afternoon here. So after a good plate of food I asked them for a nice spot for an afternoon coffee.
That’s how I ended up in Marae. An other vegan place, with great coffee and even greater cakes. No sugar, but dates only :D
And yet again with very heartwarming owners.
They gave me the tip for our final, and best hidden gem: Café Bohne.
Just out of the Old town, hidden between the houses. You must go here on a Sunday morning. The owner makes literally the best breakfast buffet in town. With Mediterranian dishes, one even better than the other.

Lübeck - Hanseatic City - Best City in Germany - Travel & Discover
The old part of Lübeck is on an island enclosed by the Trave. The Elbe–Lübeck Canal connects the Trave with the Elbe River. Another important river near the town centre is the Wakenitz. Autobahn 1 connects Lübeck with Hamburg and Denmark. Travemünde is a sea resort and ferry port on the coast of the Baltic Sea. Lübeck Hauptbahnhof links Lübeck to a number of railway lines, notably the line to Hamburg.

Walking in LÜBECK / Germany ???????? - 4K 60fps (UHD)
Lübeck (engl. also Luebeck) is city in northern German. It was the medieval capital of the Hanseatic League and features Brick Gothic architecture.
We start our tour at the train station which is West of the old town. After 5 minutes we are at the Puppenbrücke (Puppet Bridge) and shortly thereafter at the symbol of Lübeck - Holstentor. This iconic building is a red-brick city gate that protected the river-bounded Altstadt (old town) and is the landmark building of Lübeck.
We check around the city center, walk on the pedestrian Breite Straße and see the nice market square (pictured in the thumbnail).
Eventually we head towards the Trave River and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere there with fewer people until the ship museum. Heading back to the center we pass the St. Jakobi Church from where we walk northwards towards the Burgtor.
The Burgtor is another city gate where we end this tour.

One Day in SCHWERIN // A Fairy Tale City in Germany
Impressions of a walking tour along some of the main attractions of the beautiful city of Schwerin on a picture-perfect day in April 2018. Schwerin is the oldest city in the German federal state Mecklenburg-West Pomerania and also its capital. With its many flamboyant buildings and the beautiful palace located on a little island it looks like a place straight out of a fairy tale. Lübeck or Lübeek (2023) is a coastal town in the North of Germany (kreisfreie Stadt) in the state of Schleswig-Holstein close to the border of Denmark. Close to Lubeck are some beautiful beaches like Scharbeutz and Timmendorfer Strand. The city has 220,000 citizens. Some other cities in Schleswig Holstein and at the Sea of Germany are Kiel, Rostock, Bremen and Hamburg. Lubeck has been founded at the River Trade in the Bay of Lübeck which is part of Travemünde and Wakenitz. Lubeck is part of the Hamburg urban area. Hansestadt Lübeck has still remarkable storage deposits of the trade from the medieval times which are better known as Salzspeicher.

Lübeck - Queen of the Hanseatic League | Discover Germany
Centuries ago Lübeck was a major trading power. The well-preserved old town testifies to its glory and wealth in medieval times. Lübeck’s old town, comprising around 1,800 listed buildings and historic alleyways, was awarded UNESCO World Cultural Heritage status in 1987. The main landmark, the Holstentor, is a fortified gate. In medieval times the city built a system of barriers to protect the Hanseatic League capital and the rich merchants who lived there.

Mal eine Tour der anderen Art. In einer Touristeninformationsbroschüre hatte ich von der wunderschönen historischen Altstadt am Schweriner Schloss gelesen. Hier soll es noch zahlreiche traditionell inhabergeführte Läden geben. Da meine Frau die Konsumtempel der meisten Großstädte nicht liebt, habe ich mich mit dem Motorrad auf den Weg gemacht und wurde nicht enttäuscht. In den verschachtelten mittelalterlichen Gassen reiht sich ein kleines Geschäft an das Andere. Einfach schön. Hier werde ich demnächst zum Einkaufbummel mit meiner Frau aufschlagen. Der Rückweg ging in die ebenso historische Stadt Gadebusch, dort zum Bahnhof Station Burgsee. Übernachten kann man in einem alten Salonschlafwagen. Vor kurzem erhielt eine alte Lokomotive V-180 auch Zigarette genannt, einen Platz vor dem Salonschlafwagen. Das Restaurant Station Burgsee ist mit alten Eisenbahnerinnerungen geschmackvoll eingerichtet. Ein Besuch lohnt sich.
