Almaty, Russian Alma-Ata, formerly (1855–1921) Verny, city, southeastern Kazakhstan. It was formerly the capital of the Kazakh Soviet Socialist Republic (1929–91) and of independent Kazakhstan. Almaty, Kazakhstan's largest metropolis, is set in the foothills of the Trans-Ili Alatau mountains. It served as the country's capital until 1997 and remains Kazakhstan's trading and cultural hub. Landmarks include the Central State Museum, displaying thousands of historic Kazakh artifacts. In the center is Panfilov Park, home to the bright-yellow towers of Zenkov Cathedral, a tsarist-era Russian Orthodox church. Almaty used to be the capital of Kazakhstan, Not anymore! The city was named Alma-Ata back then meaning 'apple-father'.

Arbat is a pedestrian zone in Almaty, Kazakhstan. It is located on Jibek Joly Street, between Abylai Khan Avenue and Nazarbayev Street. The zone features many stores such as TsUM, or Silk Way shopping mall and kiosks.
Arbat Street, also known as Zhybek Zholy Street, is a bustling shopping hub in Almaty. This pedestrian-friendly street spans from Abylaikhan Avenue to Furmanov Street and is best explored on foot. The area offers a diverse range of shopping options, including high-end branded stores such as Mango and Zara, as well as charming small shops.
TSUM Shop, a popular spot for locals to fulfill their daily needs, is a unique hybrid of a department store and a bazaar. As you stroll along the street, you'll also find a variety of cafes and restaurants, ranging from fine dining to local cuisine.
Adding to its charm, Arbat Street is adorned with fountains, live sculptures, and sculpture expositions. Local artists sell their masterpieces here, which make for great souvenirs. Street musicians and impromptu flash mobs also add to the lively atmosphere of the street.
Arbat Street was the first pedestrian zone in Almaty, created in the late 1980s, and it continues to be a vibrant hub of activity. In 2017, the zone underwent reconstruction and is now connected to Panfilov Street Promenade, featuring even more fountains. Hiking At Medeu In Almaty Kazakhstan
In this video, we go on a hike at Medeu in Almaty, Kazakhstan with some friends. You will see some beautiful scenery of the mountains and the Medeu skating rink which is considered to be the world's largest high-mountain skating rink. I introduce some local people from Almaty and our friend Karlygash who has been in some of my other vlogs. These videos were taken in March 2022 and I am posting them now because my laptop had stopped working when I was travelling so I was not able to edit. I have a computer to edit now so I am able to finally edit and upload the rest of the videos from my recent travels to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. Thanks for watching!

Arbat Street or the Zhybek Zholy Street is Almaty’s main shopping street which is spread from Abylaikhan Avenue to Furmanov Street and is best explored on foot. While walking down, one can see the diversity of shopping in the area. While the street boasts of high branded shops like Mango and Zara, you can also find small and quaint shops.
This pedestrian shopping street is famous for having the TSUM Shop which is a cross between a department store and a bazaar and is mostly used by the local residents to fulfil their daily needs. And while walking if you want to relax, look no further because this street has all sorts of cafes and restaurants, from high dining to local food, you name it and this street has it.
To make it more beautiful, Arbat street is lined up with fountains and live sculptures and sculpture exposition. Local artists sell their masterpieces here which you can adorn on your walls. Add a little zing to it and you have live street musicians performing, dancing and people participating in impromptu flash mobs. Truly Arbat is one place which is always live and bubbling with life. So, go, enjoy and have fun!

From Dostyk(=Lenina) Avenue, take the number 12 bus to Medeo; the bus goes every 15-20 mins & starts from the bus stop across from Hotel Kazakhstan & follows Dostyk avenue all the way to its final stop- Medeo ice skating rink. From there make your way to Shymbulak: you can either walk to the base station of the Shymbulak ski resort or take cable car, or take the eco-marshrutka. From Shymbulak, a perfect asphalt road runs to the right of the Shymbulak ski resort into the mountains. The hike to Mynzhylky is not difficult & can take up to ~2-3-4 hours depending on your physical condition :) Make sure to check it out, and maybe even hike further to explore Lake #6 (I have a video about that trip from August 2017).

Kazakhstan : Dagstur til Shymbulak
Shymbulak er bedst kendt som et skisportssted, men det er faktisk også et ret behageligt sted at besøge om sommeren. Relativt tæt på Almaty centrum, er det et ideelt sted at komme væk fra byens varme om sommeren.
Vi kørte i vores lejede bil fra Almaty til Medeu (1400 meters højde). Her tog vi kabelbanen til Shymbulak ski resort i 2200 meters højde. Jeg vandrede efterfølgende 600 højdemeter op, det tog ca. 2 timer og var en virkelig smuk oplevelse. Kabelbanen slutter i 2800 meters højde, hvor der er utrolig mange flotte udsigtspunkter.
Der er masser af restauranter og endda overnatningsmuligheder ved hver kabelbane station. Især ved Shymbulak ski resort er der et stort antal af smarte restauranter.
