One of the great journeys in Europe is Italy by Train. With today’s high-speed trains, it is a quick and easy way to see Italy’s great cities, museums, masterpieces, and the amazing Italian countryside.
In this itinerary we’ll start in Milan, with day trips to Venice and Bellagio. Then off to Florence with a half day in Pisa. Then south, to the Positano on the Amalfi Coast for some beach time and relaxing in the sun, with a day trip to the Island of Capri. Circling back, we’ll head to Rome and then back to Milan to complete the route.

The access is forbidden to the fields of Tuscany, Italy? | Day 5 of the Via Francigena
It was the 5th day of Via Francigena trail when we hiked around 18 kms from the town Fucecchio to the village Calenzano.
That night was really disturbing partly because we had a fear of somebody's chasing us away partly because there were a lot of noises coming from the nearest car roads, dogs barking everywhere and even some loud music from the discos. Also we heard the shot guns of probably some hunters and it was really scary and strange that they were hunting at night. So we had a really bad sleep and were feeling broken apart right from the start of the day. We didn't even stayed at the place to cook the breakfast. We got out on the other small path and set up for cooking there in the shadow. The sun was shining really bright from the very early morning and we knew it's going to be a hot day. First, we had to get back on the official trail of the Via Francigena and for that we had to do another 3 kms. When we got there the trail continued to be quite boring going along the fast car roads and it was all in the direct sunlight between the fields…

Old pilgrim ways don’t exist anymore? | Day 4 of Via Francigena from Altopascio to Fucecchio
It was the 4th day of Via Francigena trail when we hiked around 17 kms from the town Altopascio to Fucecchio.
We spend the night wild camping in the little forest in the fields of Tuscany that turned out to be quite a calm place. We started the day at 9am and the sun was already up on the sky and quite hot. The rain the day before helped to cool down the temperature and the ground a bit so we were enjoying the fresh wind all day long. We were unhappy to know that the first few kilometers of official Via Francigena trail were going on the fast car road. We already learnt with the Camino that nowadays most of the long trails are like this. They are inevitably crossing the car roads and there are just parts of it that go on some old quiet forest paths away from the traffic. Then the trail turned away from traffic and we appeared to be on the quiet and green forest path, which nowadays you see mostly in some fantasy movies and cartoons only. We even have spotted a baby hare that wasn't really afraid of us and was pasturing quietly eating the grass in front of us. We met some half-ruined old bridge and many old rocks that were serving as signs of the road number and direction back in time…

Montecatini Terme Passeggiata nel Cuore della Toscana
Montecatini Terme si trova nella zona della Valdinievole, delimitata ad ovest dal fiume Pescia, ad est del torrente Nievole, a nord dalla montagna pistoiese, ultime propaggini della catena degli Appennini, mentre a sud-est dal Padule di Fucecchio.
Il moderno capoluogo del comune, oggi rinomato centro termale, si sviluppa ai piedi della collina di Montecatino, costituente l'antico nucleo storico.
La presenza dell'uomo nella zona dell'attuale Montecatini Terme è molto antica. Probabilmente fin dal Paleolitico la regione fu frequentata da cacciatori itineranti, ma è solo a partire dal Mesolitico che numerosi insediamenti sono ben testimoniati, specialmente nella fascia collinare della Valdinievole.[7]
La località era conosciuta anche ai tempi dell'impero romano, come infatti cita la zona Tito Livio descrivendola come paludosa nel racconto del passaggio di Annibale..

푸체키오에서 산미니아토 구간은 정말 걸을만 했고
특히 산미니아토 마을이 너무 아름다웠습니다.
이곳은 트러플의 생산지로 다양한 체험도 할 수 있고
다양한 트러플 요리들을 맛볼 수 있답니다.
10km 정도 짧게 걸을 길을 찾으시는 분들께도 추천 합니다.

Safe trail ends. Dangerous part starts. | Day 10 of Via Francigena from Monteriggioni to Siena
It was the 10th day of Via Francigena trail when we hiked around 17 kms from the town Monteriggioni to the city Siena.
The morning started very early for us at 5.30am because we wanted to hike the most of the distance as early as possible. So we were out on the trail at 7am. The sun was already up and shining strong. On the first part of the trail we enjoyed the shadowy forest paths and views over the old castles. The signs were getting confusing at times and we had to look it up in GPS, sometimes locals were directing us too. But overall if you pay attention to the solid rocks with VF sign on them you can always find the right direction. Then after a nice but really short part in the forest and shadow we had to get out on the car road again. And we noticed that as the way was turning to the car roads there were signs telling that the safe route ends…
