Forster - A little hidden paradise in NSW | Sydney Weekend Getaways | GLOBETROTTING HEELS

#Forster is a coastal town in the north of #Sydney, about 320kms or 3.5 hours drive. This is one place that is still secluded, hidden from the rush of tourists and a perfect place to take either a day trip from Sydney or to spend a few nights during long weekends.
Forster is also home to the Great Lakes of NSW which includes Wallis Lake where we went for boating. It was our friend's birthday so we hired a 15 people BBQ Party Boat for 4 hours from one of the boat operators and it cost us about $325.00 in total. Honestly, this is such a great price for such a huge boat. And on top of that, you don't need a boat license for these boats.

Forster is also famous for dolphin watching. The lake route map mentioned a point to watch dolphins but I wasn't convinced that dolphins would come so much into the lake but to my great surprise, we got to witness a pod of dolphins swim by our boat.

So next time you want a place for upcoming weekend getaway, you know where to go and gll you need to do is grab a few friends, book one of these boats, pack up your bbq needs and sail away!

AMAZING Whale Watching Moments in Forster, Australia

Filming this adventure for Destination Barrington Coast was actually my first ever time whale watching and wow did these whales put on a show! And before you ask, this whole film was shot in 1 whale watching tour!

As an ocean baby, I’ve seen countless whales while surfing, on scuba diving boats and on headland walks, yet I’ve never actually been whale watching. Part of me didn’t really know what to expect, was seeing a whale while whale watching that much better than seeing a whale on a headland or in the distance on a dive boat? I honestly wasn’t sure. But having come out the other side I now am fully aware of what I’ve been missing out on. It’s way, way better than anything I previously imagined.

Seeing our first whale was pretty incredible, but this was only the beginning. No longer than 20 minutes after we left the pier we’d already spotted our first pod of whales playfully slapping their pectoral fins and tails on the surface. As we slowly approached our skipper Matt disengaged the engine, and we sat and watched as this pod of 4 Humpback Whales that were no more than 40 meters away from us continued to play, tail slap, roll onto their bellies, and even ‘spy hop’ and vocalise their excitement.

Humpback Whales are known for their curiosity, and as this playful display continued the whales slowly gravitated towards the boat, continuing to play and poke their heads above the water in an attempt to check us out. What eventuated was a breathtaking display with members of the whale pod breaching only meters away on the port side of the boat, with the remaining whales on the starboard side continuing to playfully slap the water with their white bellies on full display. This continued for the duration of the tour, before we returned to port with a pod of dolphins bow riding on the front of the boat. I’m converted, whale watching at least out of Forster is epic!
