Places to see in ( Forio - Italy )
The busiest resort town on Ischia, Forio is located on the western shore of the island, under the slopes of Monte Epomeo. The neighbouring countryside is green and fertile, well-known for its wine production. Forio has been a popular destination since the 1950s, when it was a port of call for the international jet-set. Nowadays it attracts a wide range of visitors who appreciate the atmosphere, the beaches and the spas.
One of Forio's prime attractions is the beautiful beach of Citara, alongside one of the island's largest spa complexes, the Giardini di Poseidon. Forio's historical centre is better-preserved than other Ischian towns, and there are pleasant streets for wandering where you can see traces of the medieval and Baroque eras. Interesting buildings include the Torrione, a fifteenth century tower with panoramic views, and the little white church of Santuario della Madonna del Sorccorso, which is perched above the sea.
Forio (known also as Forio of Ischia) is a town and comune of c. 17,000 inhabitants in the Metropolitan City of Naples, southern Italy, situated on the island of Ischia. Its territory includes the town of Panza, the only frazione of Forio and of the island of Ischia. Panza has always been an independent village since the 16th century when a first governmental organization was introduced on the island.
In the 1975 the inhabitants of Panza tried to become an independent comune but the referendum, claimed by the inhabitants of Forio, was denied by the Campania's Regional Government. There are numerous coastal watchtowers, built from the Middle Ages against Saracen and African pirates raids.

The beach of San Francesco is located a few kilometers from the port of Forio; easily reachable both by car and by public transport.
On the right side is surmounted by the spectacular promontory of Punta Caruso, destination for those who love the rocks and a bit 'of tranquility.
This beach is suitable for those who love water sports, tourist facilities at sea and maybe dine in a typical island restaurant, lit only by the light of the first sunset and the moon after. The beach of San Francesco is located in the municipality of Forio. It can be reached either by bus or by car, along the main road of the island.
For those who prefer the bus, line 24, which starts from Citara, stops a few minutes from the beach, while the lines 1 - 2 - CD - CS stop on the highway 10 minutes away. Not far away, you can conveniently leave your car at the secure parking lot.

In May 2022 we did a 7 days trip to the islands of the Gulf of Naples, in Campania, Italy. We visited the authentic and colourful Procida, the interesting and lively Ischia, and the famous and spectacular Capri.
We have divided our trip into 3 episodes, one for each island. In this second video, we share with you Ischia, the biggest all of them, specially famous for its hot springs, a reminder of its volcanic origins.

We've spent a few weeks over a couple of trips to Ischia, read all the blogs, bought some guide books, (DEFINITELY buying the guidebook with the bus route map in it when you arrive), and learned a lot from trial and error and talking to locals. That's how we came up with the best things to do on the island of Ischia.
We've gone during the off-season and at the end of high season. This video is from the beginning of September. I would even suggest going in mid-September when everything seems to still be open, weather is great, and you'll have a bit fewer tourists. August is a tough month because, in Italy, it's when shops shut-down for the Italians to take a vacation. I'd avoid Italy in August as a general rule.

We visited and loved the volcanic island of Ischia. We spent most of our time relaxing. On one of our days there, we spent our whole time at the Giardini Poseidon Terme in Forio.

Ischia is a volcanic island in the Gulf of Napoli (Naples) in Italy. What is special about this island is the thermal water and the hot springs rich in minerals which Romans used to bath in and are still used for health benefits. The Aragonese Castle was built on a smaller island just in the city called Ischia as well which makes as a perfect addition to the view.
We stayed at the Hotel Giardino delle Ninfe e la Fenici just 10 min from the city centre where we had breakfast and dinner, the beach was just underneath the Hotel.
It was pretty easy to move around with the Taxi and the Bus - it takes less then 1 h to drive around the Island.

The island of Ischia is located on the Golfo di Naples, it is not only the largest island of this bay but assumed to be the most beautiful one and is a Thermal island. The town Forio is based on the slopes of Monte Epomeo, it is the second largest and the on of busiest town of the Ischia island.

A Perfect Week on the Island of Ischia ????????✨????
Ischia, in the Bay of Naples, has managed to lay low as a bit of a hidden gem in Italy’s South as far as European Travel, but you may know it now as the setting of parts of Jude Law’s The Talented Mr Ripley and Elena Ferrante’s My Brilliant Friend. We came to the island for a week of really slowing down and blending in with the locals, though my northern Italy Italian needed some interesting translation here in the south. You can get around the island by car or by boat or, as we did, by barbie car (i.e Mini-Moke).
Our Airbnb was a perfectly self contained little house in the small local town of Forio and our hosts were unbelievably generous - we were definitely semi-adopted by the host mama!
We can’t recommend Ischia enough if you’re looking for some real local southern Italian island time and if you have any questions… ask away below! The only thing we didn’t get to was the Thermal Springs that the island is famous for (it was just too hot) but they come highly recommended.
