Près de six millions de touristes se laissent tenter chaque année par la République Dominicaine. Punta Cana, sur la côte Est du pays, est l'une des plus grandes stations touristiques du monde. À neuf heures de vol depuis la France, il y fait 30°C à l'ombre toute l'année.
C'est là qu'a vu le jour le premier hôtel all inclusive ou formule tout compris. Depuis, sur ces kilomètres de littoral, une centaine de resorts s'alignent. Ils appartiennent à de grandes chaînes hôtelières internationales. Ils se livrent une guerre des prix pour attirer les vacanciers du monde entier. Mais pour faire tourner cette usine à touristes, les coûts sont tirés vers le bas.
