South Australia: From Oceans to Outback

From the rugged Outback to the glittering Southern Ocean, South Australia is known for its wildlife, food, wine and beauty.

South Australia is vast, spanning nearly half a million square miles. With a population of around one point six million people, that’s just four people per square mile.

Kangaroo Island is Australia’s third largest, and home to a remarkable range of wildlife. With over 800 native species of plants and rare sights like the endangered glossy black cockatoo, Kangaroo Island is typified by unspoiled wilderness and a magnificent selection of flora and fauna, including the kangaroos that give it its name.

Just over a thousand sea lions live and breed in the Seal Bay Conservation Park, one of the most popular tourist attractions of Kangaroo Island. Marine life thrives all across the shores of South Australia. The state’s coastline stretches for more than 3,000 miles, and after a flight of just 40 minutes from Adelaide the mighty Eyre Peninsula awaits.

Baird Bay is a small fishing village situated on the west of the peninsula. Snorkelling here isn’t a typical experience, as the the coastal waters are home to Australian sea lions and pods of dolphins.

Adelaide, the state capital city, was founded in 1836 as a planned, freely settled colony. It was a place where immigrants could settle free from religious persecution. Nowadays the city remains a vibrant, bustling cultural centre, home to thriving markets, a lively night scene and dozens of festivals a year.

From Adelaide’s beautiful architecture to a wealth of museums detailing its immigrant settlers, Adelaide does not shy away from its multicultural history. For example, the South Australian Museum houses the largest collection of Aboriginal ethnographic material in the world.

Climbing away from the coast and the bustle of the city are the quiet, rural hills of the Barossa Valley. The Barossa is world-renowned for its red wine, and over 150 wineries lie within an hour’s drive from Adelaide. But the Barossa is not only home to wine. It’s one of the world’s top culinary destinations.

The vibrancy of South Australia doesn’t end in Barossa. Follow the Stuart Highway north, beyond the hills and the vineyards of the Clare Valley to where green turns to red and the Outback begins.

For many the jewel in the crown of this region is the dramatic stretch of rock known fondly as the ‘Organ Pipes’. Gawler Range. Enormous, solid volcanic rhyolite is stacked in the cliff face here, ranging in size from stony grinning teeth to the elongated pillars that remind so many people of magnificent organs.

The rugged landscape of the Flinders Ranges epitomises the romanticism of outback Australia: big skies, incredible sunsets, and sun-baked desert as far as the eye can see.

In the summer it’s a hot, dry landscape. It might seem daunting at first, but look a bit closer and you’ll find the place teeming with life. The Flinders Ranges have also been inhabited by humans for thousands of years. Aborigines have walked in these hills since long before European settlers arrived, using the plants and the rocks for food and creating art.

The Flinders Ranges are now home to numerous towns and villages scattered along the highway. The area is accessible as a destination for hiking, cycling, camping and wildlife watching, giving visitors a taste of the iconic outback.

Rawnsley Park Station is a working farm that has managed to find a way to blend sheep farming and tourism. The owners provide scenic flights over the spectacular geological formation, Wilpena Pound.

Wilpena Pound is an ancient valley floor amidst mountains that have been eroded over hundreds of millions of years. Its golden walls are formed of highly resistant quartzite and sandstone. The area is protected from mining and most human impact other than tourism. Nowadays, 4x4s can be seen roaming along the ridgetops that command spectacular views of the timeless landscape.

Life can nevertheless be found all over the northern reaches of South Australia. The emu is a large, flightless bird, endemic to Australia and a close relation of the ostrich. Its long legs allow it to reach speeds of up to 30 miles an hour. It has become an iconic image of Australia.

Continuing up the spine of the country, we reach the northern regions of South Australia.

This is opal mining country, and the Painted Desert may seem barren, but can be extremely lucrative for those willing to work. The town of Coober Pedy is the opal mining capital of the world, known for the way its people live underground in dugouts to escape the fierce desert heat.

We’ve travelled from the crystal waters of the Southern Ocean to the dry beauty of the outback, covering one of the most magnificent states in Australia.

The Explorers’ Way crosses the state border, slicing the country in half as it continues into the Northern Territory.

SAINT LUCIA - Most beautiful island in the world? - TRAVEL GUIDE to ALL top sights in 4K

Saint Lucia is the ultimate honeymoon destination. It has the most beautiful nature and is the absolute highlight in the middle of the Caribbean. There is also plenty to do for backpackers and traveling families. In this video I show you why every traveler should visit Saint Lucia at least once: it's just a place that can hardly be beat!

After Saint Lucia we visit many more gems in the Caribbean. Whether they will match with Saint Lucia remains to be seen! With the best views of the gigantic pitons, overnight stays in tree houses in the middle of the jungle and the most beautiful snow-white beaches, Saint Lucia is high on the list of the most beautiful islands in the world. We sleep in Soufrière, visit the Diamond Waterfalls, hike the Tet Paul Nature Trail and visit the beaches Anse Chastanet, Sugar Beach and Jalousie Plantation Beach. From the west, we drive our small jeep through the rainforest to the south and east, before relaxing at an all-inclusive resort in the north.

This year we travel all over the world and after the Canary Islands, Oman, Cape Verde and Martinique, Saint Lucia is our fifth destination. Follow us on this world tour, first in the Caribbean and then to many more beautiful destinations! We travel non-stop all year round and film everything. CABIN TOUR: Pacific Explorer Balcony Cabin Tour (plus Configuration Preview)

Join my private Facebook group for cruise deals, tips and advice - the more members we have, the better we’ll get!

Follow me on Facebook and Instagram:

Head to my website for great cruise and travel deals:

Pacific Explorer has just over three decks dedicated to cabins with balconies, and there’s no doubt that access to fresh air and a little outdoor space is a nice addition to a cruise holiday.

Balcony cabins onboard are available in several configurations including a twin arrangement with a queen bed or twin beds, a quad share room with one queen and two upper bunks, a quad room with twin lower beds and twin bunks, a triple share room with two lower twins and one upper bunk, and a quad share room with one sofa bed, one lower single bed and two upper bunks.

In this video, we’ll be looking at a twin share room with a queen bed. Irrespective of the room configuration, the size is about the same across all types at about 16 and a half square meters. The compact space is made up mostly of the bedding. There are two bedside tables. You can store suitcases under the bed which is a great way to free up some of the limited floor space.

Theres’s a flat screen television and behind that are your main power points. There’s one Australian outlet, a European outlet and a 4 slot USB-A outlet which is very handy for charging devices. There’s also a US style outlet available at the vanity.

A bar fridge is located under the television. A vanity was set up with some bottled water which is available for purchase. Your room steward can arrange delivery of a bulk order for a lesser cost than purchasing each bottle as you go. Complimentary masks, a room service menu, notepad and telephone round out the desk offering.

A sliding door separates the balcony from the indoor space, with two chairs and a small table. Being an older ship, the balconies are inset within the hull and therefore have a steel cutout as opposed to the glass dividers you find on newer ships. It’s a compact balcony but it’s definitely nice to have the added space.

The bathroom is well, very economical on space. Also known as tiny. There is shelving on the side of the mirror as well as under the sink, which is also where your pool towels are located. Your pool towels can be changed by your room steward upon request. There is a liquid hand soap at the basin, as well as a combined shampoo and conditioner and a separate body wash in the curtained shower.

Outside is a three door wardrobe containing a safe. There are a few shelves, and some swing out storage drawers. Hanging space with a fair number of hangers completes the storage offering in the cabin.

A small ledge is a great place to keep your cruise card or sunglasses for easy access when coming and going, plus there’s another US style outlet underneath it.

Overall, it’s a compact room, more so than you find on some newer ships or ships from other brands. However the bedding was very comfortable, and having the outdoor space and access to fresh air is a perk that I think is worth the added cost over an oceanview room.

Thanks for watching!

KOH SAMUI, THAILAND (2023) | 10 Incredible Things To Do In & Around Koh Samui

Koh Samui is located in the southern Gulf of Thailand. It’s the largest island of the Samui Archipelago and the second-largest in the country. In this video, we’ll highlight 10 top things to do in Koh Samui.

10. Relax at the beaches
Our favorite beach in Koh Samui was Lamai, which is more relaxing than Chaweng but still has lots of tourist facilities and entertainment around.

9. Discover the Secret Buddha Garden (Tarnim Magic Garden)
Hidden high up in the hills in Koh Samui’s center, this garden is filled with unique statues and structures amid lush jungle surroundings.

8. Visit the Na Muang waterfalls
The Na Muang 1 waterfall is close to the parking lot and easily accessible on foot, while Na Muang 2 requires a short steep hike if you want to get closer to the falls.

☑️ Book half-day jeep tour to waterfalls & secret garden:

7. See Koh Samui’s most mysterious rocks
At Lamai Beach, you can find two distinctive rock formations. Discovered by locals many years ago, these rocks were described as Grandpa (Hin Ta) and Grandma (Hin Yai).

6. Go island hopping to Koh Phangan or Koh Tao
Koh Phangan and Koh Tao are the sister islands of Koh Samui, and you can easily visit them on a boat tour. While Koh Tao is a great place for diving and snorkeling, Koh Phangan is home to pristine beaches and the famous Full Moon Party.

☑️ Koh Phangan Day Tour:
☑️ Koh Tao Day Tour:

5. Eat and Shop at Bophut Fisherman's Village
Located at the north coast of Koh Samui, Bophut Fisherman’s Village is a beautiful walking street filled with cafés, boutique shops, and restaurants.

4. Watch a Muay Thai Boxing Match
Koh Samui offers Muay Thai boxing matches on almost every day of the week and the most popular place to watch them is the Samui International Muay Thai Stadium in Chaweng.

3. Explore the colorful temples
Some of the most beautiful temples include Wat Ratchathammaram in Lamai, Wat Plai Laem, and the Big Buddha Temple.

2. Go on a boat tour to Ang Thong Marine Park
A must-do day trip from Koh Samui is Ang Thong National Marine Park, an archipelago made of 42 small islands. It’s possible to do this by speedboat or larger boat tour.

☑️ Book a speedboat boat tour to Ang Thong Marine Park:

1.Eat street food at the night market
The Friday Night Market in Bophut Fisherman’s Village runs from 5 PM until 11 PM. There is also live music at the central bar area to keep you entertained.

We're all about eating what and where the locals eat. You won't find food that's been created merely to be social media worthy on here- no rainbow bagels, gold leaf soft serves- just honest food that tastes incredible.

From street food to mom and pop restaurants, we want to show you the best food we find on our travels.

AUSTRALIA TRAVEL GUIDE: 15 Things to Know Before You Go

Everything YOU need to know before you go to Australia! Including tips for getting in, getting around, what to do, where to stay, and of course what to eat! Australia is the 6th largest country in the world yet only 25 million people live here. Sydney is Australia’s biggest city with the famous opera house however Sydney isn’t the capital. Canberra is the capital of Australia and it's just a 3 hour drive south of Sydney. Swinging around to the South coast we’ve got Melbourne. Australia’s 2nd largest city with 5.1 million people. Melbourne is more artsy and funky than Sydney. In the center is the Outback… yes… where the steakhouse gets its name. Not to be confused with “the bush” with usually refers to the areas just outside of the major cities. The outback is a vast undeveloped area in the center. Mostly nature based and indingenous experiences. Some might say this is the “Real Australia”
