During the night of the 26th April 1986 one of Chernobyl’s nuclear reactors began to meltdown during a period of routine maintenance, the consequences were dire for those in the surrounding area and it was an event that rocked the entire Soviet Union. After days of trying to keep the disaster secret Soviet leaders finally admitted the incident when other European countries began reporting levels of radiation that were much higher than usual. What was originally reported as minor damage to one of the plant's nuclear reactors was slowly turning into the world’s worst nuclear accident.
At the time Ukraine was part of the Soviet Union and so reporting of it was sparse, and records in relation to the disaster were kept secret. Thousands of people were quietly evacuated from nearby villages and towns and Ukraine’s capital city Kyiv was placed on high alert. Sadly thousands of people died in the accident itself, during the clean up operation immediately afterwards and of long-term effects in the years after the accident.
To tell the story of that horrific night in Soviet Ukraine there is now a museum in Kyiv that explores the events that led to the meltdown, including previously confidential and secret government documents as well as personal testimonies and eyewitness accounts. The Ukrainian National Chornobyl Museum in Kyiv is located in an old fire station that sent engines to Chernobyl on the night of the disaster in 1986.
The museum is educational and definitely worth seeing if you’re in Kyiv for a few days. At a cost of less than £1 to enter and an optional audio guide for a few pounds more the experience is great value for money. There are lots of interactive displays, photographs, storyboards and facts about the Chernobyl disaster inside and I can say that I’m definitely glad to have been. Anyone interested in the old Soviet Union or international disasters will find the museum essential viewing and fascinating in equal measure.

Fastiv (Ukrainian: Фа́стів) is a city in the Kyiv Oblast (province) in central Ukraine. On older maps it is depicted as Chvastiv (Polish: Chwastów). Administratively, it is incorporated as a city of oblast significance. It also serves as the administrative center of the Fastiv Raion (district), to which it does not administratively belong. Its population is approximately 45,393 (2020 est.)
Lying on conjunction of railway lines, Fastiv is an important node station on the rail route from central Europe to Russia and Asia. On 1 December 1918 at the Fastiv train station delegations of the Ukrainian People's Republic and the West Ukrainian People's Republic signed the Unification Act uniting territories of Ukraine that were split between Austrian and Russian empires.

Kyiv Central Park
Kyiv Central Park is located on the hills in the center of the city. Different parts of the park are connected by pedestrian bridges, which are ideal for a photo shoot. It is a wonderful place to visit for locals and visitors alike. The visit to the park is free for everyone. The park hosts many different entertainment events (exhibitions, competitions, concerts, etc). The main entrance to the park is located near the building of the Parlament of Ukraine. Its a quiet, shady place with old lindens, maples and chestnuts.

Berehove | Towns and Cities
Elegantly decorated buildings, a town hall, museums, squares, a unique curative thermal spring, tasty Hungarian cuisine and intoxicating Transcarpathian wine. That is not a complete list of the reasons why it’s worth coming here. It is only a 10-hour drive from Kyiv to have the opportunity to walk along the streets of this picturesque and beautiful Transcarpathian town. In addition to that, the town of Berehove is considered the wine capital of southwestern Ukraine.

Kiev Reservoir, GoPro HERO 5
The Kiev Reservoir (Ukrainian: Київське водосховище, translit. Kyyivs’ke vodoskhovyshche), locally the Kiev Sea, is a large water reservoir located on the Dnieper River in Ukraine. Named after the city of Kiev, which lies to the south, it covers a total area of 922 square kilometres (356 sq mi) within the Kiev Oblast. The reservoir was formed in 1960-1966, as a result of the Kiev Hydroelectric Power Plant dam being built at Vyshhorod. The reservoir is mainly used for hydroelectricity generation, industrial and public consumption, and irrigation.
The reservoir is 110 km in length, 12 km in width, has a depth of four to eight meters, a volume of 3.7 km3 (0.89 cu mi), and a usable volume of 1.2 km3 (0.29 cu mi). The reservoir, together with the Kakhovka Reservoir, the Dnieper Reservoir, the Kamianske Reservoir, the Kremenchuk Reservoir, and the Kaniv Reservoir, has created a deep-water route on the river. However, the construction has also contributed to significant environmental problems such as the diminished flow velocity which reduces water oxygenation, and has a negative result on the balance of aquatic life forms. Also, during its construction some nearby villages were flooded. One of these was Teremtsi, where the residents of the village persuaded Soviet authorities to let them stay, only to be evacuated later in 1986.
