The Streets of Madagascar's Largest City
Antananarivo, also known as Tananarive is the largest city in Madagascar. The population is over 1.275 million people. It was founded around 1610.
I am here for a few days, then I plan to travel to other cities on the coast of Madagascar.

Motorbike Madagascar to Lake Andraikiba + Lake Tritriva

We rented a motorbike in the city of Antsirabe to make a visit to two and a half lakes. But we first made a detour to the Saturday zebu market, which was quite a detour.
The lake first is called Lake Andraikiba and has a small upper lake and a bigger lower lake. The second lake is the country-wide famous Lake Tritriva. Our guide (this is mandatory) told us we can swim, so we did just that. It was very refreshing. Not too cold. He said it's between 18°C and 20°C.
After that, the rain caught up with us since it's December and the rainy season. I stopped filming when it started to rain, so the last shots are still from the dirt road between Tritriva and Andaikiba. When we hit the (asphalted) main road, the rain became really bad and we arrived back in Antsirabe completely soaked. Still, we had fun.

La ruée vers l'or - Madagascar
Situé à environ 300 kilomètres au nord-ouest de la capitale, Maevatanàna fait partie des lieux plus ou moins caniculaires de Madagascar avec une température qui peut aller jusqu’à 34° C en période estivale. Les colons français y trouvaient leur compte s’agissant de la conquête de l’or. Les gisements ont diminué mais la région continue de produire de l’or. Une visite de la région est fort intéressante pour ceux qui désirent comprendre la situation et les conditions de vie des orpailleurs malgaches en milieu rural. A quelques kilomètres de la ville de Maevatanàna se trouve en effet la commune d’Antanimbary qui est restée la plus grande productrice d’or dans la région. Une promenade ou un survol du fleuve de Betsiboka s’impose pour apprécier de visu la vie quotidienne des orpailleurs. Ces derniers passent beaucoup de leur temps au fleuve et certains ont même choisi d’y installer leur cabane pour être proche de leur lieu de travail. Maevatanàna est facilement accessible en voiture légère. Mais les régions rurales requièrent toutefois des véhicules tout-terrain.
Located about 300 kilometers northwest of the capital, Maevatanàna is one of the more or less scorching places in Madagascar with a temperature that can go up to 34° C in summer. The French colonists benefited from the conquest of gold. The deposits have diminished but the region continues to produce gold. A visit to the region is very interesting for those who wish to understand the situation and living conditions of Malagasy gold miners in rural areas. A few kilometers from the town of Maevatanàna is the commune of Antanimbary which has remained the largest producer of gold in the region. A walk or a flight over the Betsiboka river is essential to appreciate first-hand the daily life of gold miners. They spend a lot of their time at the river and some have even chosen to set up their cabin there to be close to their workplace. Maevatanàna is easily accessible by light car. However, rural areas require all-terrain vehicles.

These shops, essential to the lives of the local people, stand in a line at the town's market place, and do a brisk business from the crowds. The robust joie de vivre of the inhabitants virtually bursts out from the town. An overwhelming surge of LIFE seems to well up from it.

NOSY BE - EXPLORING THE BEAUTIFUL ISLANDS OF MADAGASCAR
In July 2022, I traveled the islands of Nosy Be, Nosy Komba and Nosy Sakatia in the Northwest of Madagascar.
Nosy Be is a great a place to explore on a scooter and offers beautiful beaches, nice villages, markets and day trips to the other islands.
Nosy Komba was my favorite island. No traffic, only nature, hidden beaches and a lot of turtles.
The last island I visited was Nosy Sakatia which is also a lovely small island, very quiet and easy to explore.
To get there you can easily ask for a boat at the beaches on Nosy Be.
Two weeks full of joy and I wished to stay even longer!
