When you've had a few drinks in some of Vilnius' fantastic bars, it's time for a good kebab! But can you get good quality, authentic Turkish Kebabs in Lithuania?
We went on a HUGE Vilnius Kebab Tour to find out! First we tried Jammi Kebab as our benchmark - they're the most commonly known kebab chain in Vilnius. Next we went up to the northern part of the city to visit Mangal Men, a more authentic Turkish-style kebab. After that we ventured across to Eastern Vilnius to try out Mekan Doner in Pilaitė for a serious Doner Kebab! An absolutely insane kebab crawl back-to-back as part of our Eastern European Food Tour!

Vilnius, Lithuania
Vilnius is the capital and largest city of Lithuania, with a population of 630,000 as of 2023. Vilnius is situated in southeastern Lithuania and is currently the largest city in the Baltic states. It is the seat of Lithuania's national government and the Vilnius District Municipality.
Vilnius is known, among other things, for the architecture of its Old Town, one of the largest and best preserved old towns in northern, eastern, and central Europe, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994. Architectural style Vilnian Baroque is named after the city, which is the largest Baroque city north of the Alps, and the farthest one to the east.
The city was noted for its multicultural population already in the time of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth, with contemporary sources comparing it to Babylon. Before World War II and the Holocaust, Vilnius was one of the most important Jewish centres in Europe. Its Jewish influence has led to its nickname the Jerusalem of Lithuania. Napoleon called it the Jerusalem of the North as he was passing through in 1812.
Vilnius is situated in southeastern Lithuania at the confluence of the Vilnia and Neris rivers.
Several countries claim that the geographical centre of Europe is located in their territories. Its location depends on which arbitrary definition of the extent of Europe is chosen; the Guinness Book of World Records recognises a point near Vilnius as the continent's centre. After a re-estimation of the boundaries of the continent in 1989, Jean-George Affholder, a scientist at the Institut Géographique National (French National Geographic Institute) determined that its geographic centre was located at 54°54′N 25°19′E. The method used for calculating this point was that of the centre of gravity of the geometrical figure of Europe. This point is located in Lithuania, near the village of Girija (26 kilometres from Vilnius). A monument, composed by the sculptor Gediminas Jokūbonis and consisting of a column of white granite surmounted by a crown of stars, was erected at the location in 2004.
Vilnius lies 312 km (194 mi) from the Baltic Sea and Klaipėda, the chief Lithuanian seaport. Vilnius is connected by highways to other major Lithuanian cities, such as Kaunas (102 km), Šiauliai (214 km away) and Panevėžys (135 km away).
Significant depictions in popular culture
Vilnius is mentioned in the movie The Hunt for Red October (1990) as being the boyhood home of the sub commander Marko Ramius, and as being where his grandfather taught him to fish; he is also referenced once in the movie as The Vilnius Schoolmaster. Ramius is played by Sean Connery.
Author Thomas Harris's character Hannibal Lecter is revealed to be from Vilnius and its aristocracy in the movie Hannibal Rising. Lecter is portrayed more popularly and often by Sir Anthony Hopkins, although Brian Cox played Lecter in the movie Manhunter.
The memoir A Partisan from Vilna (2010) details the life and struggles of Rachel Margolis. Her family's sole survivor, she escaped from the Vilna Ghetto with other members of the resistance movement, the FPO (United Partisan Organization), and joined the Soviet partisans in the Lithuanian forests to sabotage the Nazis.

Used as a filming location for HBO's Chernobyl, Fabijoniškės is a residential district in the northern part of Vilnius. The miles of duplicated housing blocks built in the Soviet Modernism style, or Brutalist depending on your persuasion, reflects the more recent history of this city. It's this history and overall look that lends Fabijoniškės as a superior filming location to replicate the Ukrainian city of Pripyat, famous for its mass evacuation and abandonment following the disaster at Chernobyl. This video will take you on a short walk through some of the streets and paths of Fabijoniškės, snaking back and forth around the Šeškinės trail.

Things That Make Lithuania Seem Futuristic
Countries all around the world are in different stages of development. Some countries, like Japan, seem highly futuristic, while others - for multiple complex reasons - seem like they’re multiple decades behind.
Between these two extremes, Lithuania mostly fits somewhere in the middle. Now, I won’t get into conservative versus modern attitudes and values, but I do want to use today’s video to talk about some aspects of life in this country - things that make it seem a little more futuristic.
