About 10 km past Ano Karyofyto in the Rodopi Mountains in Thrace, you will reach the mountain town of Livaditis. It is surrounded by lush, green vegetation and rolling hills. The Hellenic Alpine Club of Xanthi has built refuges for 20 people here to organize excursions to the surrounding mountains. The mountains are full of fruit and nut trees in this region, and the highest waterfall (35 m) in the Balkans is near here at Arkoudorema.The scenery is magical in the winter when snow falls -- you have the impression that you are in a northern country.

Ptelea & Elos are part of a complex of coastal brackish and freshwater lakes. The biggest is the brackish Lake Vistonis, or Vistonida, surrounded by reed beds, with zones of tamarisks, salt flats, riverine forests, small freshwater lakes and wet meadows. The following lagoons are included: Lagos, Lafri, Lafrouda, Ksirolimni or Fanariou, Arogi or Karatza, Mesi or Alyki, Ptelea, Elos and Limni. They are also a Ramsar Protected Area, Wildlife Refuge, Special Protected Area, and included in the Natura 2000 network. Hundreds of species of birds winter and live in these lagoons.

Voluntary a National Park in Greece
Hi !!
I am Bony, a 23 years old french girl and I was volunteer in Greece last year. I did an 11 months European Voluntary Service in a little Greek village named Dadia, that is 10 km from the Turkish border. I was working with the NGO WWF (World Wildlife Fund) that monitor birds there (especially vultures), in the Dadia's National Park. My main activities were to stay into the forest during 6 or 12 hours, watching (count, observe behaviors...) birds with binoculars or telescope, or to help workers to do others various tasks.
I arrived there without any knowledges about birds and this year was really interesting for me ! It made me change a lot, in the good way !! Moreover, I learnt so much !! I was integrated into different cultures (Greek and Turkish), I improved my language skills and I met so much great people !!!
About the video, I realized it in Greece, with french friends that came one week to visit me during my service. I made it to present EVS program to Greek students from universities of my Greek area.
I think that, to open our minds to different countries, to travel, to live with customs of other countries, is the best way to live in the real actual world and to evolve !!

Hello and welcome to the aerial footage of the consequences of devastating wildfires in region Evros, Greece. The fire started on August 19th, 2023 and it’s still continuing today (03.09.2023).
In this clip you can watch a unique videos of destruction and damage due to the fire in Evros region. What has happened there, in border region of Greece?
• Around 93.500 hectares (935 square kilometers) are burnt (EU officials).
• 26 migrants died when they got trapped by the flames near the Dadia Forest.
• Evacuation of thousands of people from the villages and towns.
• Thousands and thousands animals were killed by fire.
• The general hospital of Alexandroupoli had to evacuate its patients to Kavala (22.08.2023).
• On the island of Samothraki a power outage occurred because of the Alexandroupoli fire (22.08.2023).
• The strongest smog: which stretched from Alexandroupoli through all of Greece to the south of the Ionian Sea, greatly polluting the air.
• Hundreds of houses and buildings are damaged.
It’s only one of the wildfires that hit Greece this year. Rhodes, Attica, Euboia, Kerkira, Kavala, Magnesia, Andros, Kythnos, Thasos, Peloponnese… The total damage is over 600.000.000€.

The tomb in Small Doxipara is a Roman funerary monument/tomb dating to the 2nd century AD, located near the villages of Mikri Doxipara, Zoni and Chelidona in Thrace, 33,5 km west of Didymoteicho and 30 km west of Orestiada. It is 60 meters long and 7,5 meters high. Four members of a wealthy family of landowners were buried around their land with carriages and their horses, which was common for the Roman era.
