So where are the best places to live in Portugal? We have traveled through many areas of Portugal and fell in love with the Algarve. It has so much to offer, especially for those looking for a perfect place to retire or spend extended periods of time.
After spending two months in the Algarve, exploring from the east to the west coast we got a pretty good feel for what each city had to offer. We will discuss what we liked best about each location and the things we would consider negative. In the end, we will share with you our top three choices of where we could see living.

Life in the Algarve Ep.3 - Lagoa
In this video we take you round the wonderful municipality of Lagoa, in Portugal’s Algarve region. We explore the towns and villages of Lagoa, Ferragudo, Carvoeiro, Estombar and Porches, which are popular places for both holidaymakers in Portugal and those looking to move to Portugal.
We show you some favourite spots along this part of the Algarve coast including Praia da Marinha, Algar Seco Parque, Benagil cave, and along the Seven Hanging Valleys walk.
As Lagoa is an important wine producing region of Portugal, we decided to take a short tour of the vineyard and estate Morgado do Quintão. We also take a tour of one of the most popular international schools in the Algarve, the Nobel International School, to help you if you are thinking about coming to the area with children.
Lagoa is less than an hour’s drive from Faro airport and has so much to offer for visitors and residents alike. We want to give you an insight into what life is like here, whether you're just visiting the region or you are wanting to buy property in the Algarve.

Sítio das Fontes & Barragem do Arade - ALGARVE - PORTUGAL
There are lots of hidden little walks and places in the Algarve that are hard to find and are often little hidden gems … we even hesitated about sharing this one with you as the sítio das fontes near Estombar, in the parish of Lagoa, is such a peaceful and quiet place – we don’t want too many people to find it!
It’s 18 hectares of municipal park and land with a lake, fountain, river walk, picnic area and so much open space and amenities to enjoy.
The Barragem do Arade was built in the years between 1944 and 1956. It is one of the main reservoirs of water in the Algarve and is irrigating more than 2.300 hectares of citrus trees.
The water level is max.46 meters above ground and the dam itself is 246 meters wide
The dam also produces 1,35 GWh of electricity.
