Top 10 WINTER Things To Do in Stockholm | December to March
Stockholm is a beautiful city in the summer, but many people want to experience it in winter as well. What is there to do in Stockholm in winter?
In this video I present the top 10 things to do if you're visiting Stockholm between December and March. Snow is not guaranteed, but it will definitely be cold, so make sure you dress appropriately for the season!
The things listed, including the various places I mention, are the following:
- Ice skating in Kungsträdgården, a very centrally located park
- Skiing at Hammarbybacken, which you can reach by tram from Gullmarsplan
- Check out the viewpoint at Monteliusvägen, on Södermalm. You can walk there from Slussen. Also, I mention Skinnarviksberget - it lies a 10 minute walk to the west of Monteliusvägen
- Rent a sauna and take an icy plunge at Hellasgården. Website:

- Walk in one of the many parks in Stockholm. This video shows you clips from Rålambshovsparken and Kronobergsparken, and I mention Vasaparken, Humlegården, Tantolunden and Royal Djurgården as well

- A tour to the archipelago in winter. The two biggest boat companies are Waxholmsbolaget ( and Strömma (
- Finally, I of course have to recommend visiting Stockholm around Christmas time! In the video I mention Christmas markets at Gamla stan and Skansen, as well as animatronic displays outside of the NK shopping centre. The town of Eskilstuna in Sweden has a history that dates back to the Viking Age, and it's been a significant place for trade and manufacturing. In this video I'm exploring what you can find in the Town between the Lakes.

In the Middle Ages the town of Eskilstuna actually consisted of two towns - Tuna and Fors. Over time the towns grew together, but it was a process that took time, and yet another name change occurred in between. In this video I visit Eskilstuna and also visit many of the historically significant places in the town.
Places I'm exploring include:
- The Kloster Church, one of the most noticeable landmarks in the town
- Gamla staden, the Old Town, including the Fors Church that dates back to the 1100s
- Sundbyholm Castle, where one of the first public schools in Sweden was built
- The Sigurd Carving, Sigurdsristningen, illustrating the tale of Sigurd Fafnirsbane from Snorri's Edda
- The Rademacher Smithies, from a time when Eskilstuna was called Carl Gustafs Town, and the Swedish king moved smithies from Latvia to Sweden because of the close proximity to Russia
- The Munktell Town, an area of Eskilstuna where the first steam locomotive in Sweden was built in 1853
- Re-Tuna Återbruksgalleria, a mall filled with only refurbished second hand items
- Parken Zoo, a public park from 1898 that has a thriving zoo area as well as a theme park section...but it has also gone through a number of controversies...
And a lot more! For example, all the famous statues that can be found across town, and other notable buildings and architecture. Either way, I hope you enjoy this look at a very interesting and historically significant town in Sweden.

FAQ:
Where are you from? Are you Japanese?
- I am Swedish.
For how long have you lived in Japan?
- I came to Japan in 2008.
Why did you move to Japan?
- I was interested in Japan since I was a child, largely thanks to growing up playing a lot of (Japanese) videogames as well as a brief interest in anime during my teenage years. When I finally came here for the first time I felt that it was a really nice and interesting country, and I decided to do what I could to move here permanently.
How did you get a visa to Japan?
- It's complicated and my case is quite different from most, as I've always been self-employed. But basically, as long as you can show the immigration authorities that you have a stable income, there's usually a way. Personally, I was here on journalist visas until a few years ago when I got married. Now I have a spouse visa.
Do you work in Japan?
- Yes, I'm a photographer. Currently, most of my work is related to tourism and travel in Japan, but I also do portrait photography as well as documentary work. I used to write news stories and articles about Japan as well, mostly for newspapers in Sweden, but for the last 3-4 years, my work has been almost exclusively about photography. Sometimes I appear on TV too.
What camera do you use?
- My live walks are recorded with my phone, a Samsung S21 ultra, mounted on a DJI OM4 Gimbal. 4K videos are mostly shot with an iPhone 12 Pro Max. For my real work, I mostly use a Nikon Z7, but I also have a Z6, Fujifilm X-T3, Leica Q, Sony RX1R mk II and Ricoh GR III that comes with me from time to time.
What advice would you give to someone wanting to move to Japan?
- Study, learn a skill that's in demand in Japan. There are plenty of available jobs here. Some knowledge of the Japanese language would also help a lot, not just to get you a job, but also so that you can actually enjoy life while living here as well.
How did you learn Japanese?
- I went to language school in Tokyo for one year in 2010-2011. After that, I've also taken some online courses and studied on my own.
How many languages do you speak?
- Swedish, English and Japanese reasonably well, and also a bit of German, as I lived there before coming to Japan.
Will you make bicycle videos?
- No. Streaming and interacting with my viewers while riding a bike would be too dangerous.
Can you show your face?
- I prefer to keep a bit of privacy here on YouTube, at least for the time being. I do streams exclusive to my Patreon followers from time to time where I show my face though, so if you are really eager to see what I look like, and if you want to support the channel as well, you should consider joining me there.
