#Most amazing trains, A railway station build in 1931

Please watch: Russian Air Force Su-35S crews detect and shoot down Ukraine Jet
--~--
A railway station build in 1931 Beach Station of Chennai local trains The well-established Chennai Suburban Railway network, which dates back to 1931, began services on the metre gauge line from Beach to Tambaram. Two more suburban networks, Chennai Central–Arakkonam and Chennai Central–Gummidipoondi began operations in 1985. In 1965, the Planning Commission set up a study team on metropolitan transport to assess the adequacy and limitation of existing transport facilities in the cities of Calcutta, Bombay, Madras and Delhi to determine the feasibility of different modes of transport and recommend phased programmes for development of transport facilities. In a means to supplement the existing suburban rail network in Chennai, a number of surveys were conducted in the 1960s including the surveys by the Madras Area Transportation Study Unit (MATSU), which was set up by the Planning Commission during 1968–1970 and the Metropolitan Transport Project (MTP), which was established by Indian Railways in July 1971. The surveys and studies identified eight important transport corridors, including the 39-km north–southeastern rail corridor along the Buckingham Canal These were soon followed by a feasibility study conducted by RITES, an engineering and infrastructure enterprise of the Government of India, on behalf of the state government. The study results were submitted in 1975, suggesting a rail-based mass transit system between Kasturba Nagar and Manali Road.

Old Swakopmund and its vintage architecture in Namibia, southern Africa

Video of old parts of Swakopmund and its vintage architectural gems, region Erongo, Atlantic coast of Namibia, southern Africa.

#Swakopmund #Namibia #TravelAfrica

Swakopmund, Namibia, was founded two years later than Windhoek, in 1892, by Captain Curt von Francois as the main harbour of German South West Africa. This coastal resort town is located 360 km from Namibia's capital.
Swakopmund town has many historical examples of traditional German architecture, built in 19th and 20th centuries. Most of these old buildings' exteriors can be viewed and enjoyed by all.
The fact that many of these buildings are still standing is due to the quality of the craftsmanship and the attention to detail typical of the period.

Prinzessin Rupprecht Heim
Now a private pension/B&B the original building was completed in 1901 as a military hospital. In 1914 it was taken over by the Bavarian Women's Red Cross, which named it after its patron, Princess Rupprecht, wife of the Bavarian crown prince.
Kaserne
The original building served as a barracks. The design is similar to Alte Feste in Windhoek and Fort Namutoni in Etosha Park and the building was completed in 1906.
Railway station (Swakopmund Hotel from 1994)
Declared a National monument in 1972 the building, designed by C. Schmidt (tower design by Willy Sander - architect of Windhoek's ''Three Castles''), was completed in 1901.
German school
Completed in October 1913, the building hosted both the government and municipal secondary schools. Design by E. Krause.
Hohenzollern building
Built in 1906 and initially served as a hotel. At the present it is sectional title flats.
Deutsche Evangelical church
The building designed by Otto Ertl was consecrated on 7 January 1912. The bells were imported from Germany where they were made by Franz Schilling. The second oldest building in Swakopmund. Proclaimed National Monument on 21 September 1978.
Antonius Gebaude
Designed by Otto Ertl the building (the hospital) was opened in March 1908.
Swakopmund Lighthouse
First 11 metres were erected in July 1902 and further 10 meters added in 1910.
State House (Kaiserliches Bezirksgericht)
Built as a magistrate's court in 1902 the building served as a summer residence for top government officials for several decades. Architect C. Schmidt. After World War 1 onwards it has been used as the summer residence of the South African Administrators. In 1945 the building was again extended by adding a tower.
The Altes Ampsgericht
Altes Amtsgericht was built in 1906 as a school but then used as the magistrates office after the state had to complete the building when the private source of funds ran out. The building was restored in 1976. The building was designed by Otto Ertl.
Marine Memorial
A monument dedicated to members of the First Marine Expedition Corps who died during the Herero War, 1904-1905 is located close to the State House. The statue was designed and cast in Berlin, and presented to the town by the crew of the German gunboat, Panther , in July 1908. The figure represents a marine standing by his wounded colleague, ready for action. This memorial was commissioned in 1907 by the Marine Infantry in Kiel, Germany, and designed by sculptor AM Wolff.
The Old Swakopmund Prison
1909 Alte Gefängnis was designed by architect Heinrich Bause. The main building was used only for staff housing while the prisoners were relegated to less opulent quarters on one side. It still serves as a prison - photographs are not permitted.
Woerman Haus
From the shore, the delightful German-style Woermann Haus stands out above surrounding buildings. It is easily recognized as the building on the high ground with a decorated tower.

Volga river Russia | Volga river history (Documentary, Discovery, History) | 伏尔加河俄罗斯 | Rio volga

The Volga is the longest river in Europe with 3,531 km (2,194 mi) length and a catchment area of 1,360,000 km2 (530,000 sq mi). It is also Europe's largest river in terms of discharge and drainage basin. The river flows through Central Russia and into the Caspian Sea, and is widely regarded as the national river of Russia. Due to its geographical situation the Volga played an important role in the movement of people between east and west (from Asia to Europe) as well as south and north. Historically, it was an important meeting place of Eurasian civilizations.

The river flows in Russia through forests, forest-steppes and steppes. Eleven of the twenty largest cities of Russia, including the capital, Moscow, are located in the Volga's drainage basin.Subscribe to a channel

Nomenclature Volga

The Turkic peoples living along the river formerly referred to it as Itil or Atil. In modern Turkic languages, the Volga is known as İdel (Идел) in Tatar, Атăл (Atăl) in Chuvash, Idhel in Bashkir, Edil in Kazakh, and İdil in Turkish. The Turkic names go back to the ancient Turkic form “Etil/ Ertil”, the origin and meaning of which are not clear. Perhaps this form has a connection with the hydronym Irtesh.

The Turkic peoples associated the Itil's origin with the Kama. Thus, a left tributary to the Kama was named the Aq Itil White Itil which unites with the Kara Itil Black Itil at the modern city of Ufa. The name Indyl (Indɨl) is used in Adyge (Cherkess) language.

Among Asians, the river was known by its other Turkic name Sarı-su yellow water, but the Oirats also used their own name, Ijil mörön or adaptation river. Presently the Mari, another Uralic group, call the river Jul (Юл), meaning way in Tatar. Formerly, they called the river Volgydo, a borrowing from Old East Slavic.

Description Volga
The Volga is the longest river in Europe, and its catchment area is almost entirely inside Russia, though the longest river in Russia is the Ob–Irtysh river system. It belongs to the closed basin of the Caspian Sea, being the longest river to flow into a closed basin. Rising in the Valdai Hills 225 meters (738 ft) above sea level northwest of Moscow and about 320 kilometers (200 mi) southeast of Saint Petersburg, the Volga heads east past Lake Sterzh, Tver, Dubna, Rybinsk, Yaroslavl, Nizhny Novgorod, and Kazan. From there it turns south, flows past Ulyanovsk, Tolyatti, Samara, Saratov and Volgograd, and discharges into the Caspian Sea below Astrakhan at 28 meters (92 ft) below sea level. At its most strategic point, it bends toward the Don (the big bend). Volgograd, formerly Stalingrad, is located there.

The Volga has many tributaries, most importantly the rivers Kama, the Oka, the Vetluga, and the Sura. The Volga and its tributaries form the Volga river system, which flows through an area of about 1,350,000 square kilometres (521,238 square miles) in the most heavily populated part of Russia. The Volga Delta has a length of about 160 kilometres (99 miles) and includes as many as 500 channels and smaller rivers. The largest estuary in Europe, it is the only place in Russia where pelicans, flamingos, and lotuses may be found. The Volga freezes for most of its length for three months each year.

The Volga drains most of Western Russia. Its many large reservoirs provide irrigation and hydroelectric power. The Moscow Canal, the Volga–Don Canal, and the Volga–Baltic Waterway form navigable waterways connecting Moscow to the White Sea, the Baltic Sea, the Caspian Sea, the Sea of Azov and the Black Sea. High levels of chemical pollution have adversely affected the river and its habitats.

The fertile river valley provides large quantities of wheat, and also has many mineral riches. A substantial petroleum industry centers on the Volga valley. Other resources include natural gas, salt, and potash. The Volga Delta and the Caspian Sea are fishing grounds. Astrakhan, at the delta, is the center of the caviar industry.

Cosmonaut
Russian Imperial Stout
ABV: 10% | SRM: 32 | IBU: 65

Super Galena hops early in the boil bring a strawberry touch. Russian imperial stouts have a dark chocolate presence with vanilla nuance; quite pleasing when accented by a bold hop addition. Our walk around this space had us skirting the territory of those three tone blocks of supermarket ice cream. All we needed was an ingredient you can ferment that would push those notions without running over the beer-ness of the flavors. We turned to that classic museum snack, freeze-dried Neapolitan ice cream. Drink Cosmonaut because exploration is what it’s all about.

Sydney Trains & Ferries Trainspotting Ferry Spotting Foamers Tour

Ugh, Gloria Choo Choo back doing a Sydney Trains & Sydney Ferries vlog. Come with me to learn about amazing train facts and ferry fiction. See things you normally never see while travelling on Sydney Trains and Sydney Ferries using the Opal card system, Ugh!

Be amazed at how an ugly Toaster apartment building was built right next to the beautiful Sydney Opera House. Hear about how the brilliant designer of the Sydney Opera House, Jørn Utzon resigned or basically sacked by the small thinking government of the day who were concerned about the buildings escalating construction costs and wanted to argue with Utzon on every construction and design decision.

Sadly Mr Utzon passed away in 2008 never returning to Sydney to see the completed Sydney Opera House. Fact is The Sydney Opera House, was never finished to Utzon’s detailed and brilliant master plans. Instead the interiors were re-designed without the features and innovations Utzon had planned. As usual the government never realized how important this building was while it was under construction and rushed it’s completion. Years later in 2007 the Sydney Opera House was listed as a World Heritage site. Utzon became only the second person to have received such recognition for one of his works during his lifetime.

Obviously it's a building like no other and needed very special methods of construction and design to become a reality. The Sydney Opera House was finally completed, and opened in 1973 by Queen Elizabeth II. Jørn Utzon was not invited to the ceremony, nor was his name even mentioned during any of the speeches. He was, however, to be recognized later when he was asked to design updates to the interior of the opera house. The Utzon Room, overlooking Sydney Harbour, was officially dedicated in October 2004. But his departure from this project when in construction should never have happened, do we remember the penny-pinching government staff who made it so difficult for Utzon to create his masterpiece? No. But we will never forget the architect Jørn Utzon.

For anyone visiting Sydney Australia one of the best and simplest tourist activities to do is catch the Manly ferry between Sydney Circular Quay to Manly. This trip exposes you to the beauty of Sydney Harbour, Sydney Opera House, Sydney Harbour Bridge and all sorts of other harbour features along the way. At Manly have a stroll on the harbour side or ocean side beach or have a bite to eat in the many restaurants along the Manly Corso. Best fun is feeding the fattest seagulls in the world at Manly beach.

The Flying Scotsman Centenary Weekender (York to Edinburgh)

60103 Flying Scotsman is celebrating its centenary this year.

The iconic LNER Class A3 Pacific locomotive, designed by Sir Nigel Gresley and built at Doncaster works in 1923, is touring the nation as part of the celebrations.

This weekend the locomotive is the star attraction of the Railway Touring Company's five-day The Flying Scotsman Centenary Weekender tour. This video is the second day of the tour between York and Edinburgh.

Train 1Z48 departs York bang on time at 9.02 am. It consists of 60103 Flying Scotsman, 12 coaches and 47812 at the rear. The train is operated by West Coast Railways.

After York I headed to Darlington, overtaking 1Z48 as it stood in Darlington South Down Passing Loop just to the south of the station. The train passed through platform 4, which is quite unusual as through trains are usually routed via the avoiding lines to the east of the station.

I again leap-frogged 1Z48 and was awaiting its arrival at Berwick Upon Tweed. The train approached Berwick nice and slowly, as it was booked into the Goods Loop to take on water. It being in the loop, instead of passing flush against the platform edge, also gave a good view as it trundled past.

For the final time I overtook 1Z48 and was awaiting its arrival at Reston. From being the only person at Reston, I was joined by dozens more in the half hour before Flying Scotsman's arrival. Reston is elevated on an embankment and the wind was howling through the station.

The chap opposite saw his tripod blow over on at least 3 occasions, so I hope his managed to get some footage. With precision timing train 1Z48 hammered through the station just 10 seconds before we would have been bowled by a southbound LNER Azuma.

With that it was home, a spot of editing and uploading the fruits of my labour for you to see here. I covered more than 200 miles today. I hope you find my footage worthwhile viewing.

Filmed on 1st July 2023.

U.S Navy Lockheed S-3B Viking

The Lockheed S-3 Viking is a four-crew, twin-engine turbofan-powered jet aircraft designed and produced by the American aerospace manufacturer Lockheed Corporation. Because of its characteristic sound, it was nicknamed the War Hoover after the vacuum cleaner brand. The S-3 was developed in response to the VSX program conducted by the U.S. Navy (USN) to procure a successor anti-submarine warfare (ASW) aircraft to the Grumman S-2 Tracker. It was designed, with assistance from Ling-Temco-Vought (LTV), to be a carrier-based, subsonic, all-weather, long-range, multi-mission aircraft.

On 21 January 1972, the prototype YS-3A performed the type's maiden flight. Upon entering regular service during February 1974, it proved to be a reliable workhorse. In the ASW role, the S-3 carried automated weapons and in-flight refueling gear. Further variants, such as the ES-3A Shadow carrier-based electronic intelligence (ELINT) platform, and the US-3A carrier-based utility and cargo transport, arrived during the 1980s and 1990s. In the late 1990s, the S-3B's mission focus shifted to surface warfare and aerial refueling a carrier battle group. It saw combat during the Gulf War of the early 1990s, the Yugoslav Wars of the mid-to-late 1990s, and the War in Afghanistan during the 2000s.

The S-3 was removed from front-line fleet service aboard aircraft carriers in January 2009, its missions having been taken over by the P-3C Orion, P-8 Poseidon, SH-60 Seahawk, and F/A-18E/F Super Hornet. For more a decade after that, some S-3s were flown by Air Test and Evaluation Squadron Thirty (VX-30) at Naval Base Ventura County / NAS Point Mugu, California, for range clearance and surveillance operations at the NAVAIR Point Mugu Range. These final examples in U.S. Navy service were retired in early 2016. The last operational S-3 was used by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) at its Glenn Research Center until NASA retired it in mid-2021. Most retired S-3s were placed into storage while options for their future were investigated. During the 2010s, Lockheed Martin proposed to refurbish them for carrier onboard delivery. The Republic of Korea Navy also had plans to operate revived S-3s for ASW; these plans were cancelled in 2017.

On 20 February 1974, the S-3A officially became operational with the Air Antisubmarine Squadron FORTY-ONE (VS-41), the Shamrocks, at NAS North Island, California, which served as the initial S-3 Fleet Replacement Squadron (FRS) for both the Atlantic and Pacific Fleets until a separate Atlantic Fleet FRS, VS-27, was established in the 1980s. The first operational cruise of the S-3A took place in 1975 with the VS-21 Fighting Redtails aboard USS John F. KennedyInitial operations of the Viking were somewhat troubled in the carrier environment, its sophisticated mission systems were largely dependent on the mission computer, which would often dump during the stress of a catapult-assisted take-off, requiring the crew to restart it and reload the software.[5] The U.S. Navy had also purchased an insufficient number of spare parts, which negatively impacted the aircraft's mission readiness. Performance improved considerably once an ample supply of spares was provisioned, allowing the S-3 to become a valuable ASW asset as well as a good surface-surveillance platform as well.Starting in 1987, the majority of S-3As were progressively upgraded to the improved S-3B standard; the involved the addition of several new sensors, avionics, and weapons systems, which included the capability to launch the AGM-84 Harpoon anti-ship missile. The S-3B could also be fitted with buddy stores, external fuel tanks that allowed the Viking to refuel other aircraft.
