SCHIFFSWRECK EPANOMI
Wir starteten mit unserer Reise in Thessaloniki und wollten dennoch, bevor es uns in den Westen verschlägt noch etwas mehr sehen und haben uns daher Google mal etwas genauer angesehen. Da fiel uns der Name Shipwreck Epanomi auf. Also wurde gegoogelt und dieser Ort als gut befunden. Unsere Reise dort hin war sehr abenteuerlich, wird aber in einem anderen Video und in kompletter Fassung genauer erläutert ;)
Es war nicht weit vom Strand gelegen und für uns auch das erste mal, dass wir ein Schiffswrack so nah bestaunt haben.
Durch den starken Wellengang war es sehr gefährlich dort in der Nähe zu Schwimmen, da man sich schnell an den verrosteten Schiffskanten schneiden konnte (was uns auch passiert ist :( )
Dennoch war es einfach nur wunderbar und gruselig zugleich so etwas von nahem zu bestaunen.

Where is Navagio Epanomi?
Navagio Epanomi is located in the municipality of Epanomi near Thessaloniki, Greece. It is situated on the northeastern coast of Greece, overlooking the beautiful Thermaic Gulf. This serene beach is nestled between the Aegean Sea's azure waters and the region's lush landscapes.
How to Get There.
Reaching Navagio Epanomi is relatively easy. It's about 40 kilometres away from Thessaloniki. The beach is also accessible by public transportation, with regular bus services available from Thessaloniki to Epanomi. Just be warned if you are driving that the last part is a dirt road, so you might want to park your car as long as you reach the beachfront!

The urban legend mentions that Saint Antoni saved the natural beauty area, as the accident occurred on his name day on January 17! Over time, the abandoned shipwreck became a striking landmark, surrounded by clear waters, as you can see so close to the shore! Today, the rusty remains of the ship create a unique and captivating sight for visitors to behold.

Our Top 7 #Thessaloniki Beaches judged by distance from Thessaloniki, beach bars, sea quality & parking availability.
Distance from Thessaloniki - How far away it is and how easy it is to get to. Realistically the only beach you can get to without a car is Perea. If you are in Thessaloniki you can get to Perea by boat, takes around 50 minutes each way. You can do the bus but it takes around 1.5 hours and the buses can be super packed. Car is the best choice for all of the other beaches.
Beach Bars - How many, how much choice, only one is a bit dodgy, maybe you don't like the music! Presentation of the beach bars that are there also effects the score a little.
Sea quality - The reputation of the sea, ie how clean it is, I personally I would swim in every single beach in the list but I add the local opinion. Also includes the sea bed, ie if it is rocky, or sandy. If the beach has some rocks it gets a small downgrade in score.
Parking availability - This video was filmed in May 2019. Things are still quite, in June July August if you are going to these beaches on a weekend parking can become an issue. The rating I give reflect how long I think it will take you to find parking when you get there. Quality of the car park has a small effect on the score.

A seaside biking trip to one of the most famous shipwrecks of northern Greece, the one which happened in 1970 at Epanomi, fortunatelly with no victims. Η Παραλία Επανομής, σε απόσταση μόλις 30 χλμ. από τη Θεσσαλονίκη φημίζεται για την ατελείωτη αμμουδιά της και το ιδιότυπο… τρίγωνο που δημιουργείται καθώς η παραλία μπαίνει μέσα στη θάλασσα σχηματίζοντας μια μύτη, ένα ακρωτήρι που δεν είναι τίποτα άλλο από μια αμμόγλωσσα μέσα στο νερό! Και η αμμόγλωσσα δεν είναι το μόνο κύριο χαρακτηριστικό της: Από την ακτή, φαίνεται ακόμη και σήμερα το «Ναυάγιο», ένα πλοίο που συμμετείχε σε εργασίες για την πλαζ της περιοχής, αλλά βούλιαξε γύρω στο 1967-70.
Η ιστορία του Ναυαγίου
Βυθίστηκε πριν από 40 χρόνια στην άκρη του Θερμαϊκού Κόλπου, λίγα μέτρα από την ακτή, ωστόσο τα φουγάρα του ξεπροβάλλουν ακόμη από τον αφρό της θάλασσας για να μαρτυρήσουν στον επισκέπτη τη δική τους ιστορία. Το γνωστό και ως «ναυάγιο» της Επανωμής, κατά την περίοδο της δικτατορίας εκτελούσε εργασίες μεταφοράς χώματος με σκοπό να «μπαζώσει» έναν ιδιαίτερου κάλλους και μοναδικής φυσικής ομορφιάς βιότοπο, όπου κατοικούν εκατοντάδες είδη πανίδας και φύονται περίπου 2.500 είδη άνθη και φυτά. Όλα αυτά ήταν έτοιμα να θυσιαστούν για τη δημιουργία καλλιεργήσιμης γης. Κάτοικοι της περιοχής λένε ότι ο Άγιος Αντώνιος έσωσε το βιότοπο, καθώς το πλοίο εγκαταλείφθηκε από την εταιρία που ανέλαβε το έργο, σκούριασε και βούλιαξε ανήμερα της γιορτής του Αγίου, γύρω στα 1970. Λίγους μήνες αργότερα, το δικτατορικό καθεστώς απαλλοτρίωσε αναγκαστικά μία έκταση περίπου 4.500 στρεμμάτων, η οποία κάλυπτε την περιοχή του Ποταμού και του Ναυαγίου καθώς και τον υδροβιότοπο. Στόχος ήταν η τουριστική αξιοποίηση, που δεν έγινε ποτέ. Πριν από λίγους μήνες, το Συμβούλιο της Επικρατείας δικαίωσε το δήμο Επανομής και τις προσπάθειές του και πλέον όλη η έκταση επεστράφη στην κυριότητα του δήμου. Το ναυάγιο της Επανωμής δεν είναι το μοναδικό, καθώς στην ίδια περιοχή βυθίστηκε το 1936 άλλο ένα πλοίο. Ήταν ο «Παναγής», ένα γκαζάδικο, το οποίο, λόγω κακοκαιρίας, έπεσε στον κάβο και παρέσυρε στο βυθό τα τρία από τα δέκα μέλη του πληρώματος. Μια ακόμη ιστορία, που διαδόθηκε από στόμα σε στόμα στην Επανωμή κάνει λόγο για έναν ψαρά από τη Φούρκα, τον Μάμαλη, που κατά την περίοδο του μεσοπολέμου, βρέθηκε με το καΐκι του φορτωμένο ψάρια στα ανοιχτά. Ο άτυχος ψαράς δεν κατάφερε να επιστρέψει στην ακτή και τα κύματα τον πέταξαν στο νερό. Μέρες αργότερα βρέθηκε παγωμένος στη λιμνοθάλασσα. Τα νερά σε όλες τις παραλίες είναι καθαρά και η παραλία του Ποταμού είναι βραβευμένη με γαλάζια σημαία.
