Endingen am Kaiserstuhl - Germany - 24 June 2018
Endingen is a small German town located in southwest Germany, at the border with France. It lies at the northern border of a former volcano area called Kaiserstuhl. The population of Endingen is about 9,000.
The town of Endingen with the winegrowing villages Amoltern, Kiechlinsbergen and Königschaffhausen is located in the north of the Kaiserstuhl. The highest point of the community is lying in the south of the city core, the Katharinenberg, on top of which stands a chapel. With 492.4 m above sea level it is the third highest peak of the Kaiserstuhl.
The city is located in one of the warmest areas of Germany, the Kaiserstuhl. The Mediterranean climate is reflected in the quality of the wines grown.
In addition to the town of Endingen itself, the three districts Amoltern, Kiechlinsbergen and Königschaffhausen belong to Endingen. At the same time, these form localities within the meaning of the Baden-Württemberg municipal code with their own town councils and mayors. In each of the localities administration offices are set up with the name Ortschaftsamt. The official designation of the districts is preceded by the name of the city and connected by hyphen adjusted the names of the neighborhoods. The neighborhoods are spatially identical to the former municipalities of the same name. The urban area is also divided into the four residential districts within the meaning of the Baden-Württemberg municipal code. These are residential district I (Endingen), residential district II (Amoltern), residential district III (Kiechlinsbergen) and residential district IV (Königschaffhausen). The districts each include only the villages of the same name.
Endingen is first found in sources in the year 862. It belonged to the Lords of Endingen for several centuries and then to the Lords of Üsenberg. In 1285 or 1286, Endingen received city rights. When the Lords of Üsenberg died out in 1379, the town passed to the Habsburgs and was eventually incorporated into Vorderösterreich. For a short time in the 15th century, Endingen held the status of an Imperial City (Reichsstadt) of the Holy Roman Empire.
In 1751, Endingen was the site of one of the last Witch Trials in Europe. On 24 April Anna Schnidenwind was burned as a witch. After the Peace of Pressburg (1805), Endingen was assigned with the rest of the Breisgau to Baden. At the same time, Endingen also became part of the Landkreis Emmendingen. The exception is Kiechlinsbergen, which belonged to the former administrative district of Freiburg before its incorporation.
In 1843, 358 citizens emigrated from the Kaiserstuhl area via Le Havre to Colonia Tovar, Venezuela, mainly from Endingen am Kaiserstuhl, Forchheim, Wyhl and Oberbergen. There they were settled after some turmoil at their present location. The farmers planted vegetables and fruits and also brewed Venezuela's first beer; they built their houses in half-timbered style.

The Seepark is a park in the district Betzenhausen of Freiburg im Breisgau which was constructed for the Landesgartenschau in 1986. It is a local recreation area, covering 35 hectares, and contains the Flückigersee, an artificial lake which takes up about 10 hectares. In the northeastern part of the park is the 15-meter tall Seepark Tower.
The area now taken up by the Seepark used to be used for agriculture. However, the soil was not well-suited for growing good grain. In the 1920s, the company Flückiger started removing sand and gravel from the grounds. In the 1970s, Flückiger's operation ended, in order for the area to be used as a parking lot.
In 1986, the successful application to hold the Landesgartenschau in Freiburg led to the redesign of the grounds, leaving the park in its current form. The Landesgartenschau had roughly two million visitors. In 1990, the park was expanded to include a 3600 m² Japanese garden to the West of the park, as part of a partnership with the Japanese city Matsuyama. In the eastern part of the park is a rose garden, which was added in 2011. It was named the Eugen Martin Anlage after the founder and citizen of honor, Eugen Theodor Martin.

Das Leben in Freiburg wird heute nicht unerheblich von den fast 30.000 Studenten geprägt. Die im Jahr 1457 gegründete Albert-Ludwigs-Universität ist eine der ältesten und renommiertesten Hochschulen Deutschlands. Das markante Gebäude der Universitätsbibliothek Freiburg mit einer Fassade aus Glas und dunkelmattiertem Chromstahl wurde 2015 erbaut. Die Universität ist nicht nur wegen der Studenten relevant, sie ist mit ihren fast 13.000 Arbeitsplätzen einschließlich des Klinikum einer der wichtigsten Arbeitgeber in ganz Südbaden.

ELZACH: IDYLLIC AGE OLD CITY IN THE HEART OF THE BLACK FOREST ( Baden-Württemberg, Germany)
Elzach is a town in the district of Emmendingen, in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It is situated on the river Elz, 26 km northeast of Freiburg. The idyllic little town is an official health resort which forms the heart of the Elztal – one of the best-known valleys in the Black Forest.
Topographically the area is characterised by the river valley of the Elz and the local hill callled Rohrhardsberg. Also Elzach belongs to the Breisgau area and is located at the edge of the Southern Black Forest Nature Park.
Thanks to its extensive network of hiking paths and a wealth of natural attractions, such as the Siebenfelsen rock formation, Elzach with its districts Katzenmoos, Prechtal, Oberprechtal and Yach is a popular starting point for hikes. Three themed hiking trails in Yach – the only settlement in Germany to have a name beginning with a Y – show hikers just how dramatically farming life in the Black Forest has changed.
Sports enthusiasts can set out on mountain bike tours from there, paragliders can launch from the surrounding mountains, while those looking for a little less action can spend a highly relaxing day fishing by the River Elz or the lake Angelsee Oberprechtal.
Known in Germany as the fifth season of the year, Fasnet (carnival) is an important time in Elzach: the Elzacher Schuttig troupe belongs to the well-known Vierer-Bund (joint carnival association from four villages). Carnival in Elzach is short, lasting only three days. But those three days are a chance to experience ancient, genuine and rousing traditions.
For holidaymakers, Elzach – and the area of Oberpechtal in particular – offers a large number of comfortable holiday apartments, as well as rooms in hotels and guesthouses to ensure a memorable vacation.
