Hungary Vacation Travel Video Guide • Great Destinations

Hungary is a small country in the heart of Europe carrying a thousand year old past. Beside one of the continent’s most beautiful capitals, Budapest, most of the tourists are curious about the Puszta and the traditions of horse keeping. But how much more can Hungary offer! There are the beaches of Balaton, the warm lake of Hévíz, the cave spa of Miskolctapolca. Then there is the Dunakanyar with Szentendre, Visegrád, and Esztergom with its many monuments, the castles of Keszthely, Gödöllő, Fertőd, the forts of Eger, Sárospatak, Sümeg. Vineyards in Tokaj, Villány or Badacsony, lovely cities like Pécs, Sopron, Kőszeg, Eger. Gentle hills, temples and lookout towers, forests, museums and rivers, fine cuisine and good programs.

Historical Buda District | Budapest | Hungary | Things To Do In Budapest

Historical Buda District | Budapest | Hungary | Things To Do In Budapest

Check out our travel blogs and travel website for more content on the best places to visit around the world.

Experience the charm of Budapest's storied past by exploring the captivating Buda District. Located on the west bank of the iconic Danube River, Buda boasts a rich history, stunning architecture, and enchanting sights. This historical district offers a distinctive blend of tradition and modernity, captivating travellers with its uniquely Hungarian flavour.

The Buda district is home to Castle Hill, a UNESCO World Heritage site and a cornerstone of Hungarian history. Walking up its cobbled streets, you are transported back in time, surrounded by an aura of grandeur from centuries past. Atop the hill, the Buda Castle, or Royal Palace, stands majestically, offering panoramic views of the city and the Danube below. The Buda Castle houses the Hungarian National Gallery and the Budapest History Museum, making it a must-see for art and history enthusiasts.

Next on your tour of Buda, visit the iconic Matthias Church, an architectural marvel that has witnessed the coronation of several Hungarian kings. Its colourful tiled roof and Gothic spires are truly a sight to behold. Right next to the Matthias Church is the Fisherman’s Bastion, a fairy-tale-like fortress with seven towers, each representing the seven Magyar tribes that founded Hungary.

Take a stroll through the winding streets of the Buda Castle District, lined with quaint cafes, charming boutiques, and art galleries. Enjoy a cup of traditional Hungarian coffee and a slice of Dobos Torta, a local delicacy, as you bask in the district's timeless charm.

A visit to the Buda district is incomplete without experiencing the Gellért Thermal Bath. Housed in a stunning Art Nouveau building, this world-renowned spa offers healing waters from thermal springs, perfect for a relaxing dip after a day of sightseeing.

For those interested in Hungary’s military past, the Citadella, located on top of Gellért Hill, is an essential stop. Once a fortress, this location now serves as a symbol of liberty, marked by the Freedom Statue visible from various parts of the city.

Experience the tranquillity of Margaret Island, a green oasis between Buda and Pest. With its lush parks, thermal baths, and historic ruins, the island offers a peaceful retreat from the city's bustling pace.

Buda's culinary scene is as rich as its history. Indulge in traditional Hungarian dishes such as goulash, paprikash, or lángos at one of the many restaurants dotting the district. Pair your meal with a glass of Tokaji, Hungary's famous sweet wine, for a complete gastronomic adventure.

The Buda district encapsulates the essence of Budapest's history, culture, and natural beauty. With its historical landmarks, stunning panoramas, relaxing thermal baths, and mouth-watering cuisine, Buda is a traveller's dream. It promises a blend of unforgettable experiences that will make your visit to Budapest truly unique.

From the city's royal past to its vibrant present, the Buda District offers an enriching journey through the heart of Hungary's capital. Don't miss the chance to explore this captivating district on your visit to Budapest.

Budapest Vacation Travel Guide | Expedia

Budapest – the political, economic and cultural heart of Hungary, and one of the most beautiful and livable cities on the continent.

When ready, browse vacation packages to Budapest:

For a sweeping view of #Budapest head to the Buda side of the Danube and take in the views from the 19th century ramparts on Gellért Hill. Just upriver is Budapest’s oldest area, The Castle District, home to Buda Castle, Matthias Church and Fisherman’s Bastion.

Cross the Széchenyi Chain Bridge to the Pest side of the city. Visit Hungary’s Parliament Building. Pay your respects at the Shoes on the Danube Memorial, a sobering tribute to the thousands who were executed here during The Second World War.

Admire the magnificent dome of St. Stephen’s Basilica. This world heritage listed boulevard of Andrassy Avenue opens out onto Heroes’ Square and City Park. The park is home to the Széchenyi Thermal Baths, just one of the city’s many lavish bathhouses.

When you’re ready to experience moments of refection, inspiration, and sublime beauty, come to Budapest.

For now, we hope you enjoy watching this #travel #guide as much as we enjoyed making it.

Szentendre: Is this the most BEAUTIFUL place in HUNGARY? ????????

In this week's vlog, we go on the perfect day trip from Budapest. We visit Szentendre which is one of the most beautiful places in Hungary. After a stroll through the town, we have lunch at Rab Raby Etterem where we eat Hungarian cold fruit soup and frog legs. We then visit Szententre's Marzipan Museum. After sampling some delicious Marzipan we have another sweet treat: Lavender Sorbet. We make a stop at the super cool Retro Design Center where we get to admire quirky vintage cars and items from the 70s and 80s. After a drink at Riverside Cafe right next to the Danube River we take the ferry back to Budapest.

Budapest is NOT Hungary

The last few weeks here on the channel, we have been exploring Hungary, and to finish this series (unless you want me to do another one on it, which if you do, let me know in the comments), I wanted to show you that Budapest is NOT Hungary.

If you really want to see what this beautiful country has to offer, you have to venture yourself outside of the capital instead of limiting your visit to the most popular place.
So on today's video, we are going to find out what Hungary is really like.

Hope you guys enjoy it!

Back in BUDAPEST! ???????? - Hungarian FOOD & trying PALINKA

In this week's travel vlog we are back in Budapest, eating some delicious Hungarian food and trying 54% Palinka.
We lived in Budapest for two years in the past. We left, but missed it so much that we decided to move back and make it our base for our travels once again.
We begin the video at Drum Cafe Budapest, where we start with a bowl of hot Goulash soup, followed by Hortobágy Crepes (Hortobágyi palacsinta) and Hungarian cabbage rolls. We end the meal with a shot of traditional Hungarian fruit brandy called Palinka.
We then roam the streets of Pest and admire the Danube river and the Buda side of the city from afar. We stroll along Gozsdu Weekend Market before me make a pit stop at Kőleves Kert, one of he city's many outdoor ruin bars, for a cold beer. We finish the day with a Hungarian chimney cake (Kürtöskalác) for dessert.
