Hop on the Marken express (boat) in Volendam to visit the nearby village of Marken. Marken is known for its characteristic wooden houses and traditional costumes. If you have seen Amsterdam, it is certainly worthwhile to visit in a half day trip Marken and Volendam, and possibly Zaanse Schans to see the beautiful Windmills in Holland. Stolphoevekerk, Burg. Kolfschotenplein 1. Not open to visitors. The oldest church in Volendam is the wooden Protestant Stolphoevekerk. This National Monument was built in 1658 in the shape of a farmhouse. The lovely little church is still in use.
St. Vincentiuskerk, Kerkepad 1. Open to visitors in the holiday season, otherwise during the weekend. The St. Vincentius church was opened in 1860, after protests from Roman-Catholic worshippers who had been forced for centuries to walk to Edam for their Sunday service.
De Visafslag, Haven 41, (info@devisafslagvolendam.nl),. Open for visits by appointment. The wooden fish auction was built in 1934, but is no longer in use. Now a National Monument, it remains a landmark today, even between the many other wooden houses.
Volendams Museum, Zeestraat 41, (info@volendamsmuseum.nl). 10AM-5PM, only during the holiday season. Historical museum, focusing on the period 1850 -1950, showing traditional costumes and interiors, as well as paintings and other works of art made by artists who visited Volendam. A special mention should be made of the Sigarenbandjeshuisje: over 11 million cigar bands were used to create mosaics on the wall of this room. 3 EUR.
Palingsoundmuseum, Slobbeland 19 (info@smitbokkum.nl) Restaurant Paviljoen Smit-Bokkum houses a small exhibition dedicated to the history of popular music from Volendam, that has been dominating the Dutch charts for more than 40 years.

This lighthouse on the eastern end of the peninsula is one of the best known in the country. This 1839 structure is 16 meters high and is a National Monument. It can be seen from a long distance, and the site itself offers great views of the IJsselmeer.
Marker Museum In this small museum you can see a traditional Marken house as it would have been decorated in the old days. There's traditional clothing on display and a lot of information on the peninsula's history. Not all information is in English, though. The museum is only opened during the tourist season

A self guided walking and geocaching tour around Amsterdam in July/August 2018
Travelling from Australia, we based ourselves in the Netherlands for our 6 week holiday.
We stayed for 2 weeks in Utrecht and did 2 day trips to Amsterdam, this video is the two days mashed up together.
It was a heatwave, but we walked all day and packed our itinerary with lots of free sights to see.

Albert Heijn is a Dutch Supermarket.
Dam Square or Dam is a town square in Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands. Its notable buildings and frequent events make it one of the most well-known and important locations in the city and the country.
The Vondelpark is a public urban park of 47 hectares in Amsterdam, Netherlands. It is part of the borough of Amsterdam-Zuid and situated west from the Leidseplein and the Museumplein. The park was opened in 1865 and originally named Nieuwe Park, but later renamed to Vondelpark, after the 17th-century playwright and poet Joost van den Vondel. Yearly, the park has around 10 million visitors. In the park is an open-air theatre, a playground and several food service facilities.
The Bloemenmarkt was the world's only floating flower market. Founded in 1862, it is sited in Amsterdam, Netherlands, on the Singel River between Muntplein and Koningsplein in the city's southern canal belt. It has 15 souvenir and gift shops, with only a few still selling fresh flowers. Today, the market is one of the main suppliers of dried tulip bulbs and tulip paraphernalia to tourists visiting Amsterdam.
The Begijnhof is one of the oldest hofjes in Amsterdam, Netherlands. A group of historic buildings, mostly private dwellings, centre on it. As the name suggests, it was originally a Béguinage. Today it is also the site of two churches, the Catholic Houten Huys and the English Reformed Church.
The Westerkerk is a Reformed church within Dutch Protestant Calvinism in central Amsterdam, Netherlands. It lies in the most western part of the Grachtengordel neighborhood, next to the Jordaan, between the Prinsengracht and Keizersgracht.
Museum Van Loon is a museum located in a canalside house alongside the Keizersgracht in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The museum is named after the family Van Loon that lived in the house from the 19th century.

2 LIEFJES - Explore the Netherlands

7 cars of ICMm storm through the station of Elst - Fly-by -
Right on the tail of the SSN Nostalgie Express, right after when I got my camera running again, the next 'regular' intercity came flying in, and it was the service to Roosendaal!
Lately a bit more often served by ICMms and VIRM(m)s, other than the regular DDZ intercity sets, we see one of the former sets plow through the station of Elst. Elst is situated more or less in between the cities of Arnhem and Nijmegen and sess a lot of traffic on the intercity mainline between the two cities which only is around 20 kms apart of one another.
Other than the entrance of the two cities, this is the only non-87,5 m/ph stretch, decreasing it to 81,25 m/ph (or from 140 to 130 km/h). Nonetheless it remains a sight to behold to see the intercities fly through.

In 2018 we traveled around the Netherlands, we spent some time in Elst, near Nijmegen at a House Sit so Aaron could participate in the Nijmegen 4 Daagse. Then we planned on going to Utrecht to another House Sit but there where a few days in between so we crashed my parents house sit in Loostrecht.
In this video we visit the castle garden nearby and go for a bike ride that ended up being alot longer than we thought! along the way we did some geocaching and found some munzees.

Take a trip from Amsterdam! Whether it's a day trip or weekend trip, there is so much more to North Holland. In the area just north of Amsterdam, there is so much beauty and there are so many activities to do. This vlog is just the first of three!
In this vlog, I take a canal cruise through Broek in Waterland and end up in Monnickendam. And a bike tour (with e-fatbikes) from Monnickendam to Marken and the stunning sight at Het Paard van Marken.

SORRY voor het gedeelte tussen Hoevelaken en Amersfoort-Centraal er gaat hier iets mis met de camera en dit is ook de reden dat ik weinig video's heb gepost, het probleem blijft zich sinds dien voordoen. hopelijk vind ik snel een oplossing!

WALKING in a DUTCH CITY: Rhenen (4K Ultra HD)
Let's take a walk in the dutch city of Rhenen, located in the province of Utrecht and situated on the southern part of the chain of hills known as the Utrecht Hill Ridge (Utrechtse Heuvelrug) and the river Nederrijn. Rhenen city center dates back from medieval times (Rhenen received city rights in the 13th century) The most famous medieval building is the Cunera church with its 81 metres high 15th century church tower.
