Elburg: the perfect stop on a day trip from Amsterdam to Giethoorn?!?! Off the beaten path in Europe
Elburg, with over 600 monuments this is one of the most picturesque towns and well-kept secrets in The Netherlands. The town is located about 80km from Amsterdam, in the North-Western parth of the province of Gelderland. It's also not far from the popular tourist trap Giethoorn. Most international tourists would go to the latter. Therefore, I can easily recommend taking a stop in Elburg as it isn't overrun by international tourists yet. Let me show you another off the beaten path destination in one of the most beautiful countries in Europe, Elburg!

De hanzestad Elburg ligt mooi gelegen naast het meer.
Het vestigingsplaatsje zijn de oude stadsmuren nog goed te zien met de gracht er omheen.
Net buiten de poort is de haven met nog een paar boten van de bruine vloot.
De scheepswerf is er ook nog speelt een belangrijke rol om de vloot nog in stand te houden.

Elburg is a municipality and town by the Veluwemeer and Drontermeer. Elburg once was a small town living of fishing and trade located on the edge of the Zuiderzee. It is assumed that the city got its city rights between 1220 and 1271.

Such a singing fishers choir is called a Shanty choir, it always consists of a group of volunteers. There are quite a lot of such groups in the Netherlands, normally performing in old fishing towns, often near the sea. they sing old sailors songs.

Wijk bij Duurstede is a beautiful historicy Dutch city in The Netherlands worth visiting! It's located less then 30km from Utrecht and only 65km from Amsterdam!
EXTRA TIP: grab a beer at the city brewery 'De Dikke' (The Fat). They have the best beers in town! Open thirsday - sunday.
