10 Best Places to Visit in Argentina - Travel Video

Check out all the places seen in this video:

Located in the southern region of South America in a large, elongated shape, Argentina was sparsely inhabited by a few indigenous tribes before Spain’s colonized it in the 16th and 17th centuries. Today, the country is an independent republic featuring varied landscapes from rich plains to thick jungle, majestic mountains, pastoral steppes and impressive glaciers. Here’s a look at the best places to visit in Argentina.

What TO DO in EL CALAFATE (Aside from Visiting Glaciers!) | Ice Bar + Dinosaur Museum + Flamingoes ????

Today we’re going to be showing you around the town of El Calafate. In the previous episodes we shared some of the most popular excursions you can do from town - we spent the day at an estancia, we toured the glaciers by boat, and we hiked in Los Glaciares National Park - however, today, we wanted to show you what you can do around town when you’re craving a more relaxed day. So, in this episode, we’ll be walking around a lagoon filled with flamingoes, coming face to face with dinosaurs at a local museum, and hitting up an ice bar while still visiting a few different restaurants. Here a list of the places we'll be visiting in El Calafate:

LAGUNA NIMEZ // Our first stop was Laguna Nimez, which is a nature reserve and bird sanctuary that sits on the shores of Lago Argentino just north of town. It’s a really nice place to enjoy a leisurely stroll, even more so if you’re a bird enthusiast.

HISTORICAL INTERPRETATION CENTRE OF EL CALAFATE // This is a very cool museum that traces the natural history of Southern Patagonia, featuring everything from dinosaur fossils to human artifacts. We really enjoyed learning about the megatherium - a giant sloth that roamed these lands at the same time as humankind.

MI RANCHO // One of our favourite restaurants in El Calafate was Mi Rancho. I ordered the braised ossobuco cooked in the clay oven with a yellow risotto that was a real delight. Meanwhile, Sam ordered the lamb with mushroom risotto and a sweet Calafate berry sauce which was also very good. For dessert, we tried the dulce de leche volcano with chocolate ice cream and wild forest berries. Needless to say, we ate very well in El Calafate!

MI COCINA // What drew us to La Cocina was their pasta tasting menu, which allowed us to try 3 dishes per person. I ordered the tagliatelle with forest mushroom sauce, gnocchi with lamb ragout, and spinach ravioli with a cream sauce featuring ham and chicken. Meanwhile, Sam got the green noodles with a bacon cream sauce, potato and spinach ravioli with Bolognese meat sauce, and squash ravioli with a leek sauce. Overall a great meal!

GLACIARIUM + ICE BAR // Inside the Patagonian Ice Museum we saw a model of the Southern Patagonian Ice Field which is where the glaciers in this area originate, and we also learned about the life of the famous Argentine explorer Francisco Pascasio Moreno. At the end of our visit, we went down to the ice bar which is located at basement level. The walls were covered in ice, the glasses the drinks were served in were also made of ice, and there were even some ice sculptures - a great photo op.

Patagonia's PERITO MORENO Glacier + Hiking LOS GLACIARES National Park (El Calafate, Argentina)

Today we're going hiking in Los Glaciares National Park and visiting the Perito Moreno Glacier, which is one of the few advancing glaciers in the world! Los Glaciares National Park is located in the province of Santa Cruz and it is Argentina’s largest national park. The landscapes here range from Patagonian steppe to Magellanic sub-polar forest with plenty of glaciers and icebergs thrown in for good measure. The park gets its name from the giant ice cap in the Andes, which feeds a total of 47 glaciers including the world-famous Perito Moreno Glacier.

And now let’s talk about the star of the show: the Perito Moreno Glacier. This glacier measures 5 km in length along its front and is 60 meters tall, however, if you also count the depth of the ice its height is closer to 170 meters! This glacier right here is the reason why so many people travel all the way down to southern Patagonia. Perito Moreno is also one of the few advancing glaciers in the world, so that alone is reason enough to visit.

Los Glaciares National Park is hands down one of the most impressive places that Sam and I have ever visited, and we couldn’t recommend it more highly! We spent hours walking the boardwalks and viewing the glacier from various vantage points, and it was pure magic!

In this video, we'll show you how you can visit the park independently (no tour necessary), and we'll show you what a day hiking in the park looks like. We hope you enjoy it!

For those looking for some adventure, we'll show you the best hiking and trekking trails in the area, including the challenging Huemul Circuit, a multi-day trek that takes you through some of Patagonia's most breathtaking scenery.

And if you're looking for some winter fun, we'll take you to the slopes for some of the best skiing and snowboarding in the country. With its pristine powder and stunning views, El Calafate is a winter sports paradise.

But it's not all about outdoor activities in El Calafate. We'll also take you to the Glaciarium Museum, where you can learn about the history and science behind glaciers, and the Centro de Interpretación Histórica, where you can discover the rich cultural heritage of the region.

VISITING PERITO MORENO GLACIER & EL CALAFATE // ARGENTINA TRAVEL VLOG

Wondering what the Blue Dollar is? Check out our video explaining it!

El Calafate is in the Patagonia region of Argentina and is the nearest city to the incredible Perito Moreno Glacier. In this video we visit this natural wonder, but beforehand we show you around the town of El Calafate, Argentina. El Calafate is a quaint town that has been fitted to accommodate the many tourists who flock here to view the Perito Morino Glacier and for those who stop in the town before heading to EL Chalten, which is the closest access point to hikes in Patagonia and the infamous Mt. Fitz Roy (yes, we visited Fitz Roy, but we did not make a video about it! Check out our Instagram highlights if you want to see more about our camping trip and sunrise hike up to Mt. Fitz Roy). In El Calafate we show you the streets and shops, go inside an Argentinian grocery store to grab some snacks, and visit the serene Laguna Nimez Nature Reserve. We've also included some drone shots of El Calafate to give you an aerial view of this beautiful town situated next to Lago Argentino; Argentina's deepest and biggest lake!

On our second day in the El Calafate area we head to Perito Moreno Glacier by bus and view the glacier from the boardwalks and by boat. Perito Morino Glacier (or Glaciar Perito Moreno) is the only glacier in the world that is growing as quickly as it is receding, and it seems huge when you get up close to it! The glacier calves (chunks of the glacier fall off) every 10-15 minutes which is one of the things that makes this glacier so unique! Our favourite part of this day was the boat ride to get up close to the glacier - it is definitely a highlight of our time in Argentina!

While we explore El Calafate and Perito Moreno Glacier we share with you the costs of the excursion and also show you what a private hostel room looks like for anyone else who is interested in visiting this wonderful part of the world!
