(10)The Valley of flowers, Khirai, near Panskura. This is the land of flower cultivation in West Bengal. The untouched beauty of this off-beat place will leave you awe-struck! Let us visit flower fields outbursting with colours in this winter! Looking at the bridge of the khirai,it seems that someone has spread the carpet of the whole orange, yellow and green colour. As far as the eyes go,flowers and flowers.Merrygold,gladiolus,chrysanthemums,calendula,cockscomb and more flowers.
(9) Mahishadal is only 16 kms from Tamluk town where you can visit the Mahishadal Rajbari and the museum there, do boating in the attached park. Also give a visit to Geonkhali, a place 8 kms away from Mahishadal, a perfect picnic spot at the junction (Mohona) of three rivers.

It's an amusement park in Haldia Township.One of the most popular park in haldia,haldia township, purba medinipur, it's present in mohona market beside the road, wonderful place, peaceful area. Just awsmmm
(7)Junput is 177 km from Kolkata and 40 km from Digha; it also has a beautiful sea beach. The place offers spectacular sea-view and lines of casuarina trees. The beach is unspoilt. Brackish water fish cultivation and research are done here by the State Government Fisheries Department. For accommodation, there is an Inspection Bungalow under the Superintendent of Fisheries and a few private hotels.
(6) Digha is West Bengal's most popular sea resort and tourist spot located south west of Calcutta. It is 187 km from Calcutta and described as the 'Brighton of the East', it is best for a holiday. Digha has a low gradient with a shallow sand beach with gentle waves, that extends 7 kms in length.
In Digha, the sea starts about a mile away from the start of the beach. The scenic beauty of this place is charming and luring. The beach is girdled with casuarina plantations along the coast enhancing the beauty of this place. These trees apart from beautifying the sands also aid in reducing the erosion on the dunes.
(5) Bankiput is an unexplored virgin sea beach nearby Contai (Kanthi). Bankiput is perfect for people looking for a quick weekend gateway from Kolkata, away from the maddening crowd at Digha and/or Mandarmoni. Although our plan was to visit Junput, which we thought to be another pristine sea beach nearby Contai (Kanthi).
(4) Haripur. Near adjacent to Junput, nearer to Contai and Digha. This is not a known tourist spot. Recently in the news as at has already been selected for the proposed nuclear power plant in West Bengal. The clean beach and the lonelyness is the main attraction.
(3) Bargabhima Temple is a Hindu temple in Tamluk near Kolkata in Purba Medinipurdistrict of West Bengal. It is around 87.2 km from Kolkata, 85 km from Kharagpur,and well connected by NH-6 and south eastern railway tracks. It is an old Kali temple, built circa 1,150 years ago by a Maharaja of the Mayor dynasty. This place has been mentioned in Mahabharata as a place which Bhima acquired. This temple is considered as 51 shakti peth of mother Durga where left ankle of sati fell.[citation needed] The temple has been declared by Heritage Site by West Bengal Govt.The current temple is not very old a it was rebuilt after the Islamic occupation of Bengal in the Middle Ages. In old Bengali literature the temple was mentioned several times.[citation needed] The temple is the mixture of three cultures, Hindu, Buddhist and Bengali. The local people celebrate a large festival on Durga Puja and Bengali new year in this temple.
(2) Geonkhali is a village at the confluence of the Rupnarayan, Damodar and Hooghly. The river is very wide and the view is breathtaking. It is in Purba Medinipur district and is about 130 km from Kolkata by road.

(1)Haldia is situated at a distance of 94 km from Kolkata and is a major seaport and industrial belt. Haldia is being developed as a major trade port for Kolkata, intended mainly for bulk cargoes. Hotels are available for business as well as leisure travel. Rooms in Haldia Bhawan, developed by Haldia Development Authority, are available for tourists.

Contai was originally a part of Hijli Kingdom, a tributary state of Orissa ruled by the Hindu king Gopinath Pattanayak. In 1852 the East India Company of British India announced Contai as a Sub-Division consisting of six police stations - Contai, Khejuri, Ramnagar, Bhagwanpur, Egra and Patashpur. But the Government continued working from Negua. The Sub-Division that covered 912 square miles (2,400 km2) was the second largest in Bengal . In 1863 when Nimak Mahal (the salt factory and business center) at Contai, in the teeth of a serious crisis, ceased functioning, the Sub-Divisional office was shifted from Negua to the abandoned Nimak Mahal building.
Bankim Chandra Chottopadhyay, the precursor of Bengali novel, worked as the Deputy Magistrate of Contai, though for a short period, from January 1860 to November of the year. In 2002, Medinipur District was divided into two parts – Purba Medinipur and Paschim Medinipur for the sake of administrative efficiency and expediency. Purba Medinipur consists of four Sub-Divisions – Tamluk, Contai, Egra and Haldia. Contai Sub-Division now consists of eight blocks of Ramnagar, Digha, Kanthi (Contai), Khejuri and Bhupatinagar

Usually when we think about birdwatching or birding somewhere in Purba Medinipur, This beautiful & forest-surrounded town named - Egra doesn't cross our minds. Not many nature and bird lovers know about this place. This place is great for birdwatching as its near Odisha and various types of birds come here when migration happens. This place is also great to watch various types of native birds, especially in Winter & Summer.
From October to May is the best time to watch birds here as this town is very peaceful, surrounded by open fields and dense forests.

I would recommend the Egra-Haripur Road for birdwatching because on both sides of the road there are open fields as well as dense forests, ponds and small lakes where you'll find all types of birds!

1. 'Bronze-winged Jacana' (Metopidius indicus)
Look in well-vegetated wetlands, especially ponds and lakes with floating vegetation. Adult’s dark neck and bright white eyebrows are unmistakable.
A bit shy.

2. 'Scaly-breasted Munia' (Lonchura punctulata)
They are found in Grasslands, gardens, fields, and agricultural areas. You can spot them on electric wires near the road.

3. 'Black-hooded Oriole' (Oriolus xanthornus)
It often feeds on fruiting trees with a preference for figs in wooded gardens, groves, and open forests. The song is rich, fluty, and mellow. Calls include raspy, nasal notes that can sound like a croak. It isn't usually seen near the road.

4. 'Fulvous-breasted Woodpecker' (Dendrocopos macei)
It usually prefers open forest and forest edges but if you look up on tall or profusely branched tress, you can spot it. Doesn't come near roads or open fields.

5. 'Oriental Magpie-Robin' (Copsychus saularis)
They have a good repertoire of melodious calls that are given from exposed open branches most of the time. The most commonly heard call is a whistle given at dawn. These birds are often seen in cultivated areas, open woodlands, and gardens.
They're not too afraid to come close to humans as far as I know if you stay low and quiet.

6. 'Grey Wagtail' (Motacilla cinerea)
It is a migratory bird towards the south of India. It is often near flowing water with nearby rocks or surrogate rocky habitat, from mountain streams to weirs in suburban parklands. Walks quietly along shorelines or in nearby open areas, pumping its very long, white-sided tail up and down. They can be hard to spot.

7. 'Plain Prinia' (Prinia inornata)
It is common in especially farms and wetlands, but avoids woodlands with a canopy. It often skulks in the undergrowth but sings from exposed perches. Look for them in open farm fields.

8. 'Asian Koel' (Eudynamys scolopaceus)
It is usually secretive, keeping to the interior of dense trees. Look for them in dense, well-branched trees or follow its call.

9. 'Shikra' (Accipiter badius)
It hunts for a wide variety of prey in woodland, savannah, and even suburban gardens, dashing out from perches within vegetation to grab its prey. They're often spotted on coconut trees.

10. 'Spotted Dove' (Spilopelia chinensis)
It is found in open forests, fields, and parks. In here, You can spot it anywhere.

11. 'Indian Pond-Heron' (Ardeola grayii)
It is a small heron that is common in most aquatic habitats across the Indian subcontinent.

12. 'Yellow-Footed Green Pigeon' (Treron phoenicopterus)
It is found in lowland forests and forest edges as well as parks, gardens, and orchards. It is uncommon in this place. Look for them in fruitful trees, it usually perches high-up on the tree and isn't too vocal so it can be hard to spot.

13. 'Brown Shrike' (Lanius cristatus)
It favors open forests and fields with scattered trees and bushes; often in parks and gardens. You can see them perching on bamboo trees and electric lines near road.

14. 'White-bellied Drongo' (Dicrurus caerulescens)
It is found in dry and open forests across the Indian subcontinent. Spot them near fields.

15. 'Asian Brown Flycatcher' (Muscicapa dauurica)

পূর্ব মেদিনীপুরে এগরা,বালিঘাই জগন্নাথদেবের মন্দিরটি ১১ বছর পুরনো। আর এই মন্দিরে সব ধরনের পূজো হয়ে থাকে। আর এখানে ৮০ টাকা মিল পাওয়া যায়, এছাড়াও মাছ,ভাত দিয়ে বাড়ির খাবার দেওয়া হয় ও তার জন্য টাকা আলাদা দিতে হবে। এছাড়া এখানে জগন্নাথ মন্দির ছাড়াও শীতলা মায়ের মন্দির দেখতে পাবেন। মন্দিরে সংক্রান্ত কিছু জানার থাকলে বা ভোগের জন্য আবেদন করতে চাইলে নিচে ফোন নম্বর দেওয়া আছে যোগাযোগ করতে পারেন।
